Nice layout. I am planning on starting an ho layout to enjoy with my grandchildren, ( recently retired ) and looking to keep busy. I thought that I would start with a 4 x 8. I like your setup. nice work!
i have a single model railroad, it has the loco, and a few cars. i bought some cars off ebay and now i have 15 cars. i also have table to be set up so i have somewhere to start my shit. can someone give me a site that will give me FULL advice on how to make a great layout in a small space? the table is about 1.2m wide and about 2m long.
you can get the help you need through books and magazines. they help out allot. Check model railroader magazine they should have what you need to get started. by the way what scale is it?
No problem, as I run whatever I feel like. To add to that, I do have WM sublettered units in the fleet. Only a small section of my roster was shot. My layout wasn't WM...it was B&O that I liked to run lots of WM on! Even if it was a WM "route", I'd still have to run lots of B&O and C&O units. Remember, regaurdless of who the previous owner was, they were one railroad by the time I model.
I just want to let you know that you did a remarkable job at weathering all of your rolling stock. Good job. I am hoping that models turn out just as good since I am new at building & weathering a layout.
well actually you can make a pretty good model of the C-27 chessie caboose with the walthers car just as long as your willing to do a little extra work with it.
But they're no match for any class of B&O caboose. That's why I got the Overland brass ones, they're exactly C27-A class cabeese. The Walthers is based on a MILW I think.-Jeffrey
Love the weathering! I did feel the trains were a little too long for a 4x8, as in some places you could see the front of the train a few feet behind the caboose. Still very enjoyable to watch, though. I liked all the different paint schemes represented, it was quite prototypical to see them altogether back in the 80's... Thanks for posting it.
yeah they were delivered like that to improve the chances of the crew in the cab surviving a grade crossing collision & probably would be more familiar to those engineers making the transition from staem to diesel easier
Nice layout! I've always been a big fan of the Chessie locomotives. I'm currently working on a 4x8 layout myself. Mine is going to be mostly CSX heritage like L&N, Family Lines, Seaboard System, and Chessie System.
Wow, that layout takes me back to the 80's. Sure do miss the Chessie, and I love your weathering, just the way I remember it in the end, getting so dirty. Beautiful job. Thanks for the flashback.
Wright Track Models makes resin kits, and they've teamed up with the Chessie Historical Society to make a resin C26 or C27 kit...don't remember which one. Nothing on the Wright Track Models website, but it is well in the pipeline.-Jeffrey
btw.. there was a release of these cars from 10+ years ago. When the newer editions came out, alot of guys dumped the older run ones on eBay. I also heard one of the new releases made it on eBay, but I never saw it myself. Luckily, cabooses are some of the best sellers in brass, much more so than locomotives. Within the next 10 years, we'll see either another run, or maybe a C26.
Some of the C&O units that didn't sell were sen't back to Overland for new sublettering and numbers.. the B&Os were more popular (this was within a year or so of the initial release) CSX painted versions of the C27A exist, they didn't move too fast.
The latest Walthers model is a nice stand in for Chessie bay window cabeese. The offer 3 numbers, one single then one double pack.
I have two bay window cabooses (I'm talking accurate ones) which are Overland brass C27A models from a few years ago. I opened up a bank account to buy those (I was 15) and worked my butt off. A great lesson in saving money. They were done in very limited numbers, the Chessie-B&O versions went instantly.
The layout was torn down in early November. I started it at the age of 12, so I've spent 6 years slowly messing with it. Now that I know how to do things right, the new layout (now 12' by 6') with be better, and be built with Kato Unitrack. Thanks,-Jeffrey
And something I just thought about... I filmed this the night I got the camcorder for my graduation...I was trying the little thing out. This was shot at like 2 am... lol.-Jeffrey
I like the REEBOK factory in the background @ 2:02. cool..j/k.

only 1 problem, the chessie engines should say WM, not B&O or C&O. since you have a WM layout.

n scale is more realistic than ho? hmmm.....Nice layout! Not too busy, excellent weathering, great looking construction and scenery.
mercenary454 3 years ago
ho is more relistic than n scale but it doesn't really matter they both look good.
trainmandan05 3 years ago
i prefer HO because it is much easier to handle and work with, and much easier to put back on the tracks after you take it off
thatguyoverthere45 3 years ago
Awesome weathering! chessie rocked! I love this you have grass, power lines, and signals just so great!
