Thank you much for posting this lovely song. My grandmother just passed away on the 17th of March, and this was "our movie." I'm going to miss her so very much, but this reminds me of what a remarkable and gentle soul she was--an elegant old dame like Ethyl Thayer. Sadly, as Ethyl says, "Life marches by . . . I suggest you get on with it."
its people like Dave Grusin who bring music to our lives. The people who diserve by far so many oscars never take them. Dave Grusin music piano playing is just perfect. Listen to my funny valentine song with michele pfeiffer.
@1978popcorn IT`S ALMOST AS IF THEY MADE THAT FILM ABOUT HENRY AND JANE`S REAL LIFE RELATIONSHIP STRUGGLE`S,AND HOW THEY MADE AMENDS.I LOVE`D THEM ALL,DAVE GRUSIN IS A MUSICAL MASTER-----BEAUTIFUL,THANKS DAVE,AND CAST, REST IN PEACE,TO THOSE WE LOST.
A most welcome and satisfying diversion that touches with its unpretentiousness, `On Golden Pond' is a lovely, lovely little film that should resonate for ages to come. Watch The Movie Here BigOnlineMovies . c o m
1981 best actor and best actress for roles in on Golden Pond and Jane Fonda was nominated for best supporting. Oscar for best screenplay. This is a movie for the ages.
I remember the day when I was advanced enough to learn the theme song and still have the piano music to this day. WONDERFUL movie. So beautifully done.
Two times worse than arriving to make forty years. I tried all day to draw some deeper conclusions, I've lived for up to eighty years: I have not found anything. The surprise is to arrive so fast. I'm getting older by the minute.
Ones again thank you Henry Fonda : Life is beautiful.
I love this movie for so many reasons and on so many levels. Thank you so much for sharing those wonderful opening minutes - every time I see these I know I'm in for the duration!
i always thought for such a wonderful and critically classic movie that they ruined the ending with the line Norma says about the loon's kids going to Los Angeles or somewhere.. instead of just leaving it with "the loons have come to say goodbye"
I thought that line was sweet.....it was like he was referring metaphorically to his daughter, and showing a sort of sentimentality towards her without really saying it right out. That line always made me cry a litte....It really was a beautiful movie, wasn't it?
Thank you for posting this. One of my favorite movies of all time. Every time I hear that theme song, it brings tears to my eyes. Beautiful, touching, and haunting. I love it.
@katydid26 I always wanted Henry Thoreau's book Walden Pond to be made into a movie. Here it is! Starring that other genius named Henry -- Henry Fonda -- who has a son named Peter, star of Easy Rider. The Fonda Family made my life complete.
... why has this got so many dislikes?! Absolutely beautiful piece of music!

This should have won the Oscar for best score not Chariots of Fire with its already dated synthesized score!

Nature in itself is so perfect and awe inspiring, simply music to the mind to be so connected with an incredible planet.

@THEGEEBOLIPS You must be the anti-e.e. cummings; he wrote in all small letters. But thanks for the sentimental journey.

The movie itself is nothing to write home about, but this is a beautiful opening score by Dave Grusin. Lost the Oscar out to Vangelis, by the way.
