Yes Sir-Hogans 5 Lessons is the Bible of Golf Instruction. It's The Golfing Machine School. Hands in front of ball at impact, butt pointing outside your lift hip, Low - Left - Under the Table to 'Balance'. If the wind is blowing 'Hit it as hard as you can, cut it off as quick as you can'. Lot of Tigers shots are cut off quick, looks almost like a half swing but trust me it not. Once he gets to the top and sets it in the slot it's all shoulder turn nothing else moves as he "TRAPS" the ball again
Oh, Mr H, you were the cream of the cream. You might have been a "difficult" guy, but millions of us love you, and billions more will. You defined 'courage' and had the guts and intelligence to work it all out for yourself. Tiger famously said that he "wanted to own his swing, like Hogan owned his." That's the supreme compliment.Bernard Darwin said in 1953 that he was glad to have lived long enough to have seen Ben Hogan play golf. Another supreme compliment!
My son Isaac wants to be able to swing like Ben Hogan....but who doesn't??? Hope you enjoy his video response. He's got a bit to go to look like Ben Hogan. I think he swings more like Ernie Els.
Some say that these guys are obsolete concerning the golf swing. I'm no expert, but for me they, Hogan, Snead and after them Niclaus, Player, Watson and other fab Golfers, developed the perfect golf swing at that time. It's almost the same swing today.
@petereuropa Actually the modern swing used today uses most of Hogans principles of not lifting up the front foot and pulling the left side during the downswing. Snead, Niclaus, Watson, had obsolete swings no longer used today since they used the back foot to drive the downswing forcing the C shape follow through posture which produces hip injury. Watson actually changed his swing in the 90's to prevent this from happening.

That move down with the club from the top, retaining the angle and returning the elbow to the right side as a drill, was the same one Harvey Penick used to have his guys do. It works, trust me.
What a leg and hip drive. He really illustrates this concept very well. I wish there were more and longer versions of tutorials by Ben. I also like the B Jones videos.
This is pure... My golf teacher said my single plane swing is similar to hogans I promptly asked him if he was drinking before the lesson! This is godly!

@basfrk11 first of all I am gangsta of golf so don't even go there. Straight up hood here, I am tough enough that I know I can beat anyone at golf. I wasn't raised all soft and spoiled like you all. Once I get the money together, you all will see the playa or playa's yaaaaaa boyeeeeee
Who is this idiot! This guy has no idea what he is talking about. Youtube where all the wanna be golf pro's post crap lessons like this. Come on "turn the hips" he looks like a fool with his strange movement. I'll issue a challenge to this Hogan dude any place any time buddy!
Golf is a physically demanding sport, and a great golfer needs to stay flexible and be in great shape. The pro’s spend thousands of dollars on golf fitness trainers and coaches to help keep them on top of their game, but for me that was not a possibility. After years of complaining about my game plateauing and about being sore from playing so much I knew I had to do something about it, but after a few stretches I was lost.
Its all about practice. Even Hogan's book tells you to take practice swings everyday. Those that dont end up sucking at golf for the rest of their lives
Being an avid golfer for 20 years I have seen a lot of golf swings, good and bad. This guys pass at the ball was pardon my language, fuckin beautiful...
Ben Hogan was an absolute genius. No question the best golfer EVER. You can take you Jacks and Sams and Tiger - give me Ben. The man wins a Major tournament after almost dying in a severe automobile accident - just 18 months later. If were not for the War (II) and that accident, no one would ever touch his golfing record. And I agree with golfnutster - best 4 second golf lesson ever!!!
Ben understands the mechanics of the golf swing better than most touring pros of his time and he changed the way many teacher's teach the swing today.
Lol who cares about owning a swing Charles Barkley owns his swing but how many tourneys has he won Jim Furick owns his swing but he isn't better I guess my point is when tiger said that he was just being modest something u have to do when ur the #1 golfer of the decade
You misunderstand. By "owning" a swing, Woods meant having total control of the ball and know you'll hit it well every time out. And, no, he wasn't being modest. Woods is a better player than Hogan, but this is because golf is about more than just hitting the ball. Woods is great with the short game and putting and is as mentally tough as they come. But his ballstriking ability pales in comparison to that of Hogan and Norman. All knowledgeable gofers, including Woods himself, will tell you this.
Also, you'd be wise to take a look at the Moe Norman videos, as he was probably even a better ballstriker than Hogan. I wouldn't copy his method completely, but if you have the ability to understand body mechanics, there's a lot to be learned from what he did. Remember, he was a guy who, when he practiced at a tournament, all the other pros would watch. And I mean top players. They would just stand there and watch him hit balls because, as Woods said, he was like Iron Byron.
@yenrubab Further testimony to Hogan's status among top golfers is provided by Tiger Woods, who recently said that he wished to "own his (golf) swing" in the same way as Moe Norman and Hogan had.
@yenrubab Woods claimed that this pair were the only players ever to have "owned their swings", in that they had total control of it and, as a result, of the ball's flight.
K but no matter when the golf rankings started u can clearly still see who has more wins and in the argument about slower greens it's easier to put on slower greens than fast greens if u look at the tourneys wit higher under par scores the greens r slower now a days the greens r much firmer on top courses that they make golf balls to fly up and land soft back n the day u could skull the ball and the greens would stop it.don't get me. Wrong jack,Ben,Sam,Arnold where good. N there time I just thi
And who cares if there r better ball strikers boo weekly is a better ball striker than tiger but he has not even come close to the number of wins as tiger
Look the fact of the matter is this yeah hogan had a wonderful swing and yeah the equipment has changed but no matter what u. Still have to be good in order to play and if hogan had the same equipment golfers have today back then he still would not be better than tiger , sorry guy no one golfer has held on to the number 1 spot for as long as tiger has yeah jack has a few more majors but when u look at the two in there prime tiger was the better of them all as far as skill
@yenrubab I respectfully disagree...first off, the World Golf Ranking was only conceived in the 80s. So there's no way of really knowing who was #1 for how long, as far as the WGR is concerned. But I will say...from 1945 to 1953, Ben won 48 tournaments, 9 of them majors. He was definitely on top of the golf world for almost a decade. He was the man to beat.
@yenrubab Now as far as "skill" is concerned, every great golfer has a specific skill set. Tiger is a wonderful putter and wedge player...he doesn't fall down the leaderboard easily because he saves par all the time. Great with the irons when he's in the fairway...but he couldn't drive the ball if his life depended on it! Nicklaus, on the other hand, was wonderful off the tee, great with the irons, and a great putter...but HIS problem was that he was horrible with the wedges.
@yenrubab Now Ben was a solid player all through the bag, but after the car accident, the glass shards in his eyes made it hard for him to see clearly when putting, and so that became his bugaboo. But he hit the ball so straight and long with every club that he rarely put himself in compromising positions.
One other interesting thing to remember is that the courses really were tougher in the old days. They didn't have the mowing equipment they do today, so the rough was completely unkempt.
@yenrubab Also, fairways were much shaggier, meaning you could get iffy lies even after perfect drives. And of course, the greens were much slower and bumpier, harder to putt on. And HERE'S the kicker: The rule where you get to lift and clean your ball on the green is a fairly new rule, wasn't in effect in Hogan's day...so players had to putt their ball even if there was dirt and mud all over it. When you look at some of those guys' tournament scores, that gives you a new measure of respect.
1. u start with your lower half dominating til half way down
then 2. You try like hell to swing the club head past your head (head feeling like its going backwards) so you are aiming at divoting in front of the ball.
Most people (if they do 1. right) don't do 2. right. They shy away from the toruque they feel building in their writsts and let that lag go - or "go with the flow" and come out of their swing a little.
ummmmm.....stack n tilt? Take it from someone who knows Mr. Hogan's swing. You wouldn't be viewing this video if he used S n T methods. S n T is sometimes an acceptable method for beginners trying to get the ball airborne and break 100. There is too much timing involved in the S n T swing to play at an competitive level. How many tour pros fell off the face of the earth after changing to S n T? Mr. Hogan's swing was Mr. Hogan's swing, plain and simple. Thing of beauty that I could watch for hrs
@hennybogan007 if SnT is so timing oriented, why would anyone recomend it for an ametuer trying to break 100 and not a professional? Get your facts straight. Regarding tour pros that "fell off the face of the earth after changing to SnT", again, Get your facts straight. Hogan has a beautiful swing with lots of components used in the SnT swing.
This is just a different way of explaining his "rubber band" concept in his book "5 Lessons".
He showed a golfer at top of the swing with a rubber band attached to his left hip which pulled it away from the target line. Its a good image to use when swinging.

A colleague of mine showed me this great tool!

Its all about practice. Even Hogan's book tells you to take practice swings everyday. Those that dont end up sucking at golf for the rest of their lives

Lol who cares about owning a swing Charles Barkley owns his swing but how many tourneys has he won Jim Furick owns his swing but he isn't better I guess my point is when tiger said that he was just being modest something u have to do when ur the #1 golfer of the decade
yenrubab 1 year ago
You misunderstand. By "owning" a swing, Woods meant having total control of the ball and know you'll hit it well every time out. And, no, he wasn't being modest. Woods is a better player than Hogan, but this is because golf is about more than just hitting the ball. Woods is great with the short game and putting and is as mentally tough as they come. But his ballstriking ability pales in comparison to that of Hogan and Norman. All knowledgeable gofers, including Woods himself, will tell you this.
OutlanderWarrior 1 year ago
Also, you'd be wise to take a look at the Moe Norman videos, as he was probably even a better ballstriker than Hogan. I wouldn't copy his method completely, but if you have the ability to understand body mechanics, there's a lot to be learned from what he did. Remember, he was a guy who, when he practiced at a tournament, all the other pros would watch. And I mean top players. They would just stand there and watch him hit balls because, as Woods said, he was like Iron Byron.

Tiger was better in his prime
yenrubab 1 year ago
@yenrubab Further testimony to Hogan's status among top golfers is provided by Tiger Woods, who recently said that he wished to "own his (golf) swing" in the same way as Moe Norman and Hogan had.
fr1nkly 1 year ago
@yenrubab Woods claimed that this pair were the only players ever to have "owned their swings", in that they had total control of it and, as a result, of the ball's flight.
fr1nkly 1 year ago
@yenrubab I think Tiger would disagree with you.
fr1nkly 1 year ago
K but no matter when the golf rankings started u can clearly still see who has more wins and in the argument about slower greens it's easier to put on slower greens than fast greens if u look at the tourneys wit higher under par scores the greens r slower now a days the greens r much firmer on top courses that they make golf balls to fly up and land soft back n the day u could skull the ball and the greens would stop it.don't get me. Wrong jack,Ben,Sam,Arnold where good. N there time I just thi
yenrubab 1 year ago
And who cares if there r better ball strikers boo weekly is a better ball striker than tiger but he has not even come close to the number of wins as tiger
yenrubab 1 year ago
Look the fact of the matter is this yeah hogan had a wonderful swing and yeah the equipment has changed but no matter what u. Still have to be good in order to play and if hogan had the same equipment golfers have today back then he still would not be better than tiger , sorry guy no one golfer has held on to the number 1 spot for as long as tiger has yeah jack has a few more majors but when u look at the two in there prime tiger was the better of them all as far as skill
yenrubab 1 year ago
@yenrubab I respectfully disagree...first off, the World Golf Ranking was only conceived in the 80s. So there's no way of really knowing who was #1 for how long, as far as the WGR is concerned. But I will say...from 1945 to 1953, Ben won 48 tournaments, 9 of them majors. He was definitely on top of the golf world for almost a decade. He was the man to beat.
Goynes42 1 year ago
@yenrubab Now as far as "skill" is concerned, every great golfer has a specific skill set. Tiger is a wonderful putter and wedge player...he doesn't fall down the leaderboard easily because he saves par all the time. Great with the irons when he's in the fairway...but he couldn't drive the ball if his life depended on it! Nicklaus, on the other hand, was wonderful off the tee, great with the irons, and a great putter...but HIS problem was that he was horrible with the wedges.
Goynes42 1 year ago
@yenrubab Now Ben was a solid player all through the bag, but after the car accident, the glass shards in his eyes made it hard for him to see clearly when putting, and so that became his bugaboo. But he hit the ball so straight and long with every club that he rarely put himself in compromising positions.
One other interesting thing to remember is that the courses really were tougher in the old days. They didn't have the mowing equipment they do today, so the rough was completely unkempt.
Goynes42 1 year ago
@yenrubab Also, fairways were much shaggier, meaning you could get iffy lies even after perfect drives. And of course, the greens were much slower and bumpier, harder to putt on. And HERE'S the kicker: The rule where you get to lift and clean your ball on the green is a fairly new rule, wasn't in effect in Hogan's day...so players had to putt their ball even if there was dirt and mud all over it. When you look at some of those guys' tournament scores, that gives you a new measure of respect.
Goynes42 1 year ago
Nicklaus once responded to the question, "Is Tiger Woods the best ball striker you have ever seen?" with, "No, no - Ben Hogan, easily"

most people dont realize 2 things:
1. u start with your lower half dominating til half way down

Thing of beauty that I could watch for hrs
hennybogan007 1 year ago
