I got another gig on Saturday, can't wait, there's just nothing like playing harp in a hot band on a regular basis, Mr Gussow sir i'm still listening thankyou
Nearin' midnight - drunk - just getting home from my first local blues jam. Still ridin' that high and what's the first thing I do upon getting home? Check out Ol' man Gussow. 'nuff said!
Hi Adam been following you since the beginning of the lessons. You are an endless library of blues harp. Iam kind of frightened about how much I have to learn to sound like you but kind of excited about the journey. How long did it take for you to become the master you are. I really wish I sucessfully make my journey to sound as great as you.
I've been playing for almost exactly 33 years. The journey is a long one; it's a matter not just of putting in the practice time and having some kind of natural talent, but of entering a culture, playing the music live with people who really know how to play it, quitting once or twice or ten times, and picking it back up. Hundreds of gigs. Hundreds of jam sessions.....
Adam, I've been watching your posts for some time now, and I truly admire your commitment to your art. Art is all about sharing, giving and teaching. You are an excellent teacher.
I used to play-ish harp when I was younger. I know my harps are somewhere in a box(I got a C, D, F Bb, A, G, and a lowF i think). I'm gonna dig them out and play again!
This particular video is very interesting. Keep posting!
my first blues cd was chessbox blues. It was a compliation... that thing started me on a wild ride. The next cd was Muddy Waters - King of the Electric Blues. I'll never forget those two cds.
Hi Adam, I discovered your videos late last night (GMT) and what a find! A goldmine. I originally picked up a Hohner about 8 or 9 months ago but put it down due to other concerns, and I see you started these videos around that time as well. Perhaps if I'd noticed at the time, I'd already have 8 months practice under my belt! Now I have quite a back-log to view! Inspirational stuff with plenty of tips and how-to's that I should speed my progress in learning. Well done!
Tighten Up On It is available on the CD Chicago/The Blues/ Today! Volume 3, along with a bunch of other great Johnny Young and Johnny Shines tunes that feature Walter Horton, and one cut by Big Walter Horton's Blues Harp Band. Tighten Up is my favorite harp song ever, and I've been listening to it since my parents bought me that record for Christmas when I was about 12! It was only much later I found it on the CD.
This is truly brilliant stuff. Listening to you talk about your influences is a pleasure, as well as listening to some great music. Thanks for your efforts.
Adam, this plays like a vintage blues podcast, and might I say that is a damn good idea for you with that collection. I would subscribe in a second flat. Perhaps in audio format you could expand on this idea of the artist/DJ and then I could listen for an hour a day in the car alone! Cool idea, and thanks for your dedication...
Now I feel like a true harp nerd.... I have two B harps :x
BTW, you can still purchase new turntables (record players) quite cheaply. So if your Pioneer packs it in there is still hope for your vinyl records. Perhaps now is a god opportunity to convert your collection to a digital format? Time-consuming but worthwhile.
I also have an album called "The Bluesmen" but it is not the same album as yours - just a heads-up for those hunting for the album you have featured here.
