Tried to purchase exclusive Harvey Norman item last week. Was listed on their website but no indication of which store stocked it. Rang several stores. Either no-one had a clue what it was or I got redirected from dept to dept cos no-one would take the call. I had to ring the manufacturer to find the store that stocked it and after all that the salesman knew 1/10th product knowledge than I had gained in the previous 24hrs AND stated that they couldn't budge on the price cos of warehouse fees...
In the late 1990s Gerry was fined for sending a letter to other retailers saying they should all stick together and not deal with any suppliers who sell direct on the internet. This was generated by Compaq establishing a direct internet site. 2 months before the GST he sent a letter to all suppliers which included that they would have to agree to a hike in his rebate from 5% to 15% or loose trading with Harvey Normans, With that he took the savings from the GST away from the consumers.
Nice hand gestures, not distracting at all. But perfectly argued from start to finish, except for the jobs line, but I think Kochie's "little Aussie Battler" crap wears a bit thin.
@matjfitz I challenge Kochie to find "the little guy down the street"selling big screen tvs. Gerry Harvey crushed guys like that decades ago. Does Kochie think Gerry is one of the little guys????
kochie is supposed to be a finance eXpert. Mates with Gerry HArvey much?
When I worked for Harvey Norman I was hired because I had IT certifications. Did they ever listen to my advice all those years ago to open an online ordering process? Nope, what would I know I was just another IT sales jerk. I have vowed never to work face to face with the public ever again. It’s like going bare foot into a cattle yard full of angry moo moos. All they do is step on your feet and shit on your back.
Gday..I sell camping trailers on ebay and went up from the small stuff to larger goods due to decreased margins.I also sell on the street and i will say my off the street customers are wanting online prices ''This is frustrating as they probly dont buy online at all'' What i find odd is the rents keep going up in the shopping centers.
Hard to get a word in against Koshie. That wanker loves the sound of his own voice. However, I knew from the start that Harvey's plan to set up off shore was just a political stunt to lobby the gov't into slapping a GST on imported goods. This has all the same vectors as the entertainment industry in the US lobbying to protect their outdated business models after failing to embrace the internet as a viable retail/distribution channel.
@AoDIronMask let him set up offshore. I'm sure that'll be the beginning of the end to major retail in Australia and will have been instigated by a few backwards old men. Not the best legacy to leave behind but seeing as Gerry is looking toward the future Austraians should go one better and show him the door.
