  • I produce Drum & Bass,Ambient,Techno,Downbeat and other Electronic Music and these translate fantastic to other systems - I also use M Audio's SBX10 Subwoofer which has a Footswitch ( perfect for my little Bedroom Studio ) and for Mastering I switch over to my favorite Monitors ( M Audio EX66's ) but I would say 75% of the time I use the HS50m's...you Mix it good on these it sounds good ANYWHERE - Car,Radio,Ghettoblaster,MP3,CD Player...

  • does the sound card make a big difference in the sound card you use with these

and will converting 1/4 to rca diminish the sound as 1/4 to 1/4 plugs?

  • I want these in my small room and my question is that the sub sounds are good? I don't need veryvery deep sub but a normal nice deep sub? some people say that the they have no sub but i don't want to believe them :D so what you say? please somebody answer me ! really important to know this for me and sorry for my bad english. thx for answers!!!

  • You say that there is NOOO base in them. I've them too, mix with them on a daily basis and there is enough bass so I assume that you have your ears checked.... ! When your room acoustics are optimimised, and that's not the case I see in your video, then the real strength of the Yamaha's comes forward, and they become a thruthfull flat sounding monitor system with enough base for a 5" speaker.

  • im just gonna play some coldplay!!! what the fuck!!1

  • Did you read the manual and set the db meters to their right position? because these actually acheive a better low range than krk's and I've had krks and your monitors are either broke and/or not leveled correctly.

  • hey yo diddy, yo room a mess XD

  • Dude...Tidy your room before you film a YouTube video! It makes your opinion more credible ;-)

  • idk wht to get krk's or these? i have a small room and live in arpartments and have no acoustic treatment please tell me or help me get wht to get krk or yamahas?

  • good vid thanks sir

  • i want to play bass guitar through gnx4 on this monitor and heard this monitor has not goof low frequency,so is that lack of low frequency for high bass electronic songs or even Sensible in a normal bass guitar playing?so do you recomend it to me for practical home bass playing ?

  • @duke7293 there is NOOOO bass in these. I mean there is,but....just don't get these for that lol.

  • yamaha hs80 is better but it's expensive,so what do you recommend to me in hs50 price range?

  • @duke7293 hs80 are not better,they're diff. in this range I'd get...these...which i got.

  • are they to buy them yeah or no???

  • @themanonthestair Oh,sorry. This is chilla2. It's my new account...

  • Hey bud r u using the XLR input?

  • @arod006 1/4" wires (the only type of input it has)

  • @chilla2 Not true...I just went to a website that stated that it has XLR input as well....reson i'm asking is because i want to hook these up to my Ns7FX

  • @arod006 of course they have XLR inputs, you can even see it in the video @ 1:19 the XLR Jack is right next to the bass reflex aperture on the back, between the volume pot and the 1/4" jack.

  • is krk better ? please help me i need a really good manitors for making beats and mixing stuff. pm me.

  • @biggang008 Nah,maybe for listening, but KRK has been covered as muddy. These will not be too fun to just jam out with but you'll hear all the problems.

  • whwn the song com out ? make some more videos

  • haahha you look exatly like arsenio hall

  • @themanonthestair The rumbling was the actual woofer. And they were on towels...

  • Is that you room? My God!!!

  • Cold Play is Mainly mixed by Micheal Brauer wich is one of the top mixer around. Good monitoring choice. I have those same monitors and i mainly used them to mix hiphop and soul/rnb music and they are great .

  • Do have to buy those 2 separately or did they come in pair?

  • DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHY MY YAMAHA MONITORS MAKE A HIGH PITCH NOISE WHEN I PLAY MEDIA OR TRY TO MIX MY RECORDINGS? IT'S REALLY ANNOYING AND I CAN'T FIND A SOLUTION!!!

  • Thanks for making this video man. I recently bought some 50s and kind of had some second thoughts about getting them. I was thinking I should've got the 80s perhaps, but I'm glad the 50s are closer to the NS-10s (which is a big part of why I so happily settled when I decided buying them).

  • you hhave your monitors possition wrong the should be verticial

  • I love those monitors. Mate..you seem a cool guy and everything..but try not to " chewing gum " so much at the condenser mic while you talk.

Just an opinion. Nice choice on those yamizzz !

  • Hey bro, how are you doing man? Great review I took this into consideration before finally purchasing my own. I get this little buzz or I shouldn't say buzz it's just some kind of noise if you get real close to the monitors. I know it's not my soundcard because i can have it on 0 db and it's still there. I noticed it pretty much goes aways when i disconnect the 1/4th cable, hope you can answer if it's normal, thanks man. peace

  • what about "hissing?"

because i've read in some reviews that they to hiss.

    noticed any?

  • but why you in the corner man? didn't you read the manual?

  • @FeerlyssSounds room controls...plus they weren't that close to the walls when i started actually using them.

  • paused the vid on 0:34 lmfao! you looked pretty happy there ;-)

  • That had to be the Worst placement for near field monitors I've ever seen...

  • Just from this video I can tell these monitors are wasted on this room, I can hear tonnes of sibilance being reflected around the room just by quiet speech, get some acoustic treatment before you do anything else dude!

  • @xGIJewx Well you said you can hear sibilance. While i was recording with a imac's microphone.... Yes they are not at their full potential in the room, but they aren't completely going to waste thanks to cross referencing.

  • ... As in a proper full range system with a sub etc. Depending on what kind of music you're making. I make House and 2Step/ 4x4 Garage so I like to hear how low frequencies are behaving on my tracks! Ironically I actually mix on a 100 watt Aiwa hifi system, but been mixing on them for years now and have learnt them so I know that they have dodgy bass response mainly. Also mix on headphones to check bass. And when possible check them on a full range system to see how they'll sound in a club etc!

  • You seem to know (a bit) of your stuff, but obviously not enough as all your "testing" is completely wasted on the fact that youve got the monitors on their side! Your mixes will sound dodgy as f*** because having them on their side will change your ears perception of the stereo field (Amongst other things)! Some speakers should be rotated (Focal Twins) but HS50s arent supposed to be. If you do feel compelled to rotate them its a basic rule that the tweeters should at least be on the outside!

  • @djdiscomikki Well before putting them on the side i did the research, and i know it's not much of a difference. The only thing is that the waves will it my ears at a quicker time this way.I didn't put too much technical thinking into this because...it's my bedroom lol. ANYWAY i get what you're saying and yes it would sound diff, but hey pros do it too. It just surprises me that no one points out that i'm using reference monitors as my main monitors...

  • Fair point. I didnt point it out because I dont think its bad to mix on reference monitors. After all, all professional studio monitors are "reference monitors" so you can hear how your mix sounds truly. Or as true as that monitor allows it to sound, depending on its frequency response. Now if you were mixing on hifi speakers that colour the sound and exaggerate bass and boost mids I would have pointed it out. Also, for "main monitors" you would need something a little bigger than a HS50 lol!

  • @djdiscomikki Well like i show i mix on 3 different sources, the monitors, huge speakers they're on,then headphones. Though i do all this i don't claim to an engineer or anything becayuse of...my environment. not saying my mixes sound like garbage but still,I won't try to equate them to much without a proper environment.

  • I wouldnt say I mix completely on 3 different sources. If Ive got monitors to hand (e.g if im in a studio or a mates) then I'll mix on them and check on headphones, then put on a cd and try and in a car. If I'm in my flat here in Leeds where I study at uni I'll mix one my crappy aiwa hifi speakers then check on headphones and do the same with a car stereo. If I'm at my home in London then I'll mix on my large system that my turntables go through and once again check on phones and the car stereo!

  • RE: Mixing Environmens: You still have your knowledge about mixing that you can apply to your mixes regardless of the environment. My mixes are ok in my flat but put my in a studio where I can hear everything just right and theyre much better, same as anyone who knows how to mix! A good engineer cant truly be a good engineer without a good room to hear his mixes in, so dont put yourself down about mixing in a bad room!

  • true. I do an overall mix in headphones because i usually listen LOUD then do fine tweaks on the monitors, then keep going through and doing small tweaks. I'm never satisfied though lol

  • keep playing music, till it fully reached its burn-in state.

  • dj tihu bod k si črn

  • How did you connect the hs50s to your pc? XLR or RCA ?? and do you have mixer?? this is reall importnt for me..

  • seen as there brand new, they wont sound right for some time, they need wearing in time. i personally wouldn't mix on them for at least a couple of months

  • well technically they shouldn't be mixed on at all seeing as they're just reference monitors.

and um i bought them used and....check when this video was uploaded lol.

  • @DotsandMusic

i was referring to the particular day of the filming. but if you bought them used i suppose its irrelevant. nice video anyway...

  • wat wud u suggest 2 mix on?

  • im surprised there ported

  • Lol yea,if you have an equalizer or something and crank the bass up about 10 dbs it can give an accurate bass at low levels.

  • how about the basse,i heard they dont have no basse at all..

  • they're not meant to have deep low ends because they're there to fill up the mid and highs! if you want low ends get the HS10W sub. Or just get yamaha hs80s, they do the low end pretty well

  • Yea but the HS 80s don't have the boosted mid range that makes these and the ns-10s desirable.

  • ckaen up your room young man

  • Thanks,of course i need someone to tell me to clean my room after 7 months of doing this video. Oh man, i never would have thought to do it if you didn't come and give me such sound advice.

  • lol.. XD

well i just order my monitors (yamaha hs 50)

pritty smalls .. didnt get them yet i hope it will come fasttt i cant wait

  • tell me what is better ??? HS 50M or m audio av 40

  • Well i can't answer that,i've never heard the m-audios,or heard anything about them.

  • hs 50m

  • sometimes i hear rumbling w/ certain frequencies on my right monitor as well.i have m-audios. why is that..

  • try softly tapping it while playing. I tapped mine a few times on the woofer, and it got better. I think there was a small gap letting air out that made that sound.

  • Huh? Who hated them?

  • It's not really fair to judge monitors in a bedroom with no acoustic treatment.

  • Well i'm not only judging the monitors on my setup but also on the months of research i did before i bought them.

  • how is bass on those monitors>

  • Almost non-existent lol. At one point in the video i play music and turn off my speakers to let you hear the bass of the monitors, i do it a couple times actually.

  • damn...im planning to buy new monitors...Mackie MR8 Vs KRK Rp8....recommendations are received and thanks for the help....budget 500$

  • Well if you check around you'll see that these are great for exposing a bad mix especially in the mid area. I hear the KRKs are way too bassy, but i've heard good about Mackie. i think with 500 you can buy these and the subwoofer though.

  • The problem is that im from Puerto Rico...and shipping cost a lot. so a pair of mackie mr8 500$ = 100$ shipping. That yamaha with sub are 700...damn.....so the decision is between MR8 and KRK...whats better from those 2?

  • Wow,well i guess from reviews i would go Mackie.

  • thanks. subscribing lol

  • Yamaha HS80m's...

  • COLDPLAY NIGGA FOR REAL

  • Sorry i tend to listen to good music. think about it...MONITORS hip hop isn't really the go-to genre to hear something mixed well.

  • @chilla2 Are you happy with those yamaha? I was planing to get the Hs80m

  • clean yo room rigga!, ..damn

  • did u miss some bass becuz you turned your other speakers on?

  • Yes i did(this is my new account) these monitors are very low on bass.I use about 3 other speaker/headphones to monitor from.

  • i had the same problem with my hs80m's, but im gettin used to it now :]

  • I`m using mbox2 and Protools 7.4.2, with my IMAC. I`m having this problem. Ther's a noize in one of the speckers every time I Lounch Protools, it even hapen while Protools is reading all my plugins. But if I change somo configuration sucha as Playback engine 512 to 1024 the noize stops but it comes back after I press the return on my keybord.

How can I fix this problem? It has something to do with grounding?

    Thank you!!

  • I would guess grounding AND computer usage. When i tried out ableton for some time i got a noise whenever i used my mouse, and when i put it on lower specs, the sound went away. I can't say exactly what's happening in your situation but i would check those 2 out first.

  • No you dont need a any thing else I have an M-audio card and that runs everything. ( but if your not sure check to see if the unit is an audio interface _ if it is your good to go.)

  • I have the Hs80ms They are awesome and loud. I find them very accurate.

  • Yea,but those might as well be called something different. They don't sound the same. The 80s are more flat while the 50s sound more like the ns-10s

  • Huh? well sure they dont sound alike they are two different sizes. You cant expect them to produce the same sound with different amps. They are both pretty accurate but the 50s are geared to the traveling d-j owner and the 80s are mainly for serious studio work. (and boy are they heavy in a good way) I also find it hard to understand why they aren't seen in many high profile studios so far i only have seen then in the "the roots" studio as they worked on al greens album.

  • We'll i'd expect them to sound the same due to the similar name and exterior design.

  • well to a certain degree, but you also have to position the monitors in the right place.

  • On a tight budget, yes these are ok to mix on.Try to make sure your room sounds good though. These are to me the best in the price range actually.

  • are these monitors suitable for CD/Vinyl listening?

  • No,your ears will get fatigue from the harsh mids,

  • what do u suggest?

great vid...lmfao about the yammys :D

  • hey, tats wat i want to know...did u get any thing? and what did u get? im looking 4 speakers to mix dance tunes on in a small room...tanx

  • i trust YAMAHA :)

  • No....... its suppose to be a flat frequency response don't compare your shit to timbaland's mix! Mix it even better with your own ears...

  • Flat frequency response has nothing to do with how good a mix sounds. Comparing your mixes to other popular engineers is a great tool to use. Even the pros use reference material.

  • This is a reply to an earlier poster.

  • I understand that, but a flat frequency has everything to do with starting a great mix. You start flat and then you bring different tracks up for excitement with certain instruments > I know what im talkin about. >>Avoid fatigue for the listener, include excitement for entertainment. > everyone loves a bright mix, just not too bright. BUT PERFECT @Petrucciisgod123

  • you dont look to happy with your purchase, how are they now, are they broken in ? i got my's two days a go, i love them !

  • Hey man, when i listened to my old beats,i was not happy.I was also more in the mood of "Let's get to business" when i bought these, but now i am extra happy.Though i didn't realize that much of a difference in my old music, when i went back and mixed it from scratch it sounded like it was recorded on a different level. These monitors might not reveal many problems immediately, but when you do a full mix on them, you'll realize that you were missing a whole dimension. Now i'm very happy with them.

  • yeap same boat here, i gotta some remixing to do coming from the samson 65A ( big EQ smiley curve) everything is super thin and high pitched

  • ok i bought these monitors going off of your review, and they are just great! But because there is NO BASS whatsoever lol, i just purchased the hs10w subwoofer. I record alot of hard rock music, so i need alot of low end. Otherwise i love em and everything else u say is just what i got on my monitors.

  • Wow,that's great.I'm happy you trusted me lol.I have yet to get the subwoofer, but i use other speakers to show me the bass..Did you read the manual and configure the bass accordingly?

  • yes it is adjusted well, just one problem thou. i am running pro tools on a laptop, and of course there is a slight hum and fuzz noise coming from the woffer and speakers, super low. When i unplug my laptop cord it goes away and sounds great with no hums of fuzzes. I think the AC power from the cord of the laptop is making the hums. hopefully i can sort this out. :(

  • I Had this problem its called "grounding" go to dollar general and buy one of those white plug converters that changes a two out pong into a three pong outlet, it cost me only 3 bucks to fix this problem in alabama. cheers!

If your lost, it looks just like a plug socket out of the wall.........................

  • nice review vid, but i have a question maybe u can add it in ur part 2

how do u get the speakers to work with itunes and the intenet?

i have the same ones and i only get audio from fruity loops, nothing else..???

  • by you saying fruity loops,i kow you're now on a mac lol.I don't remember windows as much, but try to look for audio outs on ur settings(on the actual computer) i am not sure why you don't get audio from other things.

  • if you want those speakers to work. you have to make sure ur speakers/monitors are connected to the sound card you plan to use. next, make sure you set up ur audio preferences correctly in the sound and audio devices.

  • great great video man! i am thinking of buying these, but i am not sure. Your video was great and all but i alot of rock music recording, with not as much bass as rap.

So do you think these monitors have a good enough mid and high range?

and also, can they go loud?, not to super loud lol

  • not much bass, and it doesn't really matter what genre you're doing because you'll need a good bass representation.you would have too boost bass by about 9dB to get it to a level that is closest to accurate.and they get LOUD,loud enough for...anything.

Mid range is good,so is Hi

  • Yeah you don't see that many reviews on The Yamaha HS Series. I have a pair of HS-80M's because I didn't want to buy a subwoofer later on. They go down to 42hz which is excellent.

The whole HS Series is nice, The KRK's are also pretty nice, but they're a bit more expensive. But listening between the HS Series and the Rokit Series I can't really tell too much of a difference.

  • from many reviews i hear that the lower end krks are very bassy so...yea
