From a technical standpoint, Soul Reaver is a damn impressive game on Playstation. Shame Crystal Dynamics are too busy milking Lara Croft for her worth now rather than working on further instalments to the Legacy of Kain universe.

I don't remember the hand-to-hand stuff being quite so difficult. Oh well.

Did you ever play the Dreamcast version of this? It was a bit prettier, and some of the jumps were a little easier.

I love this game, though I love Blood Omen and Blood Omen 2 as well. Too bad Soul Reaver 2 was a letdown. Defiance was pretty decent.

@elbryan42 I'm not going to do a full playthrough. I just go caught up when capturing video. I always forget where all the hidden items, and glyphs are. You'd do a much better playthrough than I ever could.

One of my favorite series, although I'd say this and its sequel are pretty much on par with each other, with one being incomplete without the other. Anyway, thanks for these, it brought back good memories :) I need to replay the entire series again, as I have forgotten most of the intricacies of the plot, sadly.

Just curious, how does the second one on PS2 compare to this in your opinion? I haven't played many games in this series but they all look really good!

@thesouz18 I've had the second one for years but I have yet to complete it. It doesn't feel as good to me. The combat was made a little more annoying. I'll have to get back on it sometime in the future. By all means, keep an eye out for it, but something was lost in the move to the next generation. Even the art style isn't quite as good.

The only thing missing is some sort of map. It doesn't even have to be a full map but just... something.

I loved this game back in the day. A classic example of how I used to rent games based on how cool the cover looked. Only other game of the series I played was Blood Omen 2 and that game was pretty fun as well.

I just bought this game recently on Black Friday for the Dreamcast. It blew my mind. Not only was it gorgeous, but I loved the Gothic style and interesting combat. I really need to finish this game.

I've never played the PS1 version, but it looks really, really nice from what I've seen.

Love this game, one of my favourite ps1 games. Between the Legacy of Kain and the Uncharted series I really can't tell which one is a better story and writing work by Amy Hennig, all I know is that they are of the best stories told in gaming history.

@NightFireEquinox I do have texture smoothing on for the vid, but this is one of the games that already looked so good that it doesn't make a huge difference in the game. The game actually runs on the Gex engine which was a top tier PS1 game engine. Crystal Dynamics knew their stuff on PS1 development.
