Though very skilled, Herb isn't about skill, he's about the closest I heard to a drummer playing musically, on par with my alltime fav. Stewart Copeland. Actually, i remember reading an interview w Copeland, where he was at a rehearsel with Les and Herb (Les had invited him to check him out for THAT new band :D ), exclaiming: wow! that guy had all my licks nailed, he just played them better!
Actually, it was Brain Stewart was speaking of in that case (in his book "Strange Things Happen"). Hopefully, this won't start a whole Herb/Brain b.s. thing. I am jus reporting the facts of Stewart's book.
@drummer78 hehe, no problem man, thanks for the correction, i read that article YEARS ago, nice to hear from another Copeland 'devotee' :)
Anyway, Brain and Herb are both VERY musical players! - which people doesn't really recognize and find important anymore, most drumnerds only focus on technique these days....
Would just like to add my tuppence that yes this is a drummer drumming not someone playing drums. Tim's style flows like a Rolex's second hand, he doesn't "tick". Get'cha groove on son!
For all the Brain-vs-Alexander people out there, try this thought: Have 'Brain' try to play something like this version of 'Bastards', and I guarantee it will come off flat, boring, and lifeless. Then have Tim A. play *anything* on the Brown Album, and I guarantee it will come off with more life and groove than Brain's playing. Brian is technical and skilled, but he has no spirit, no feel to his playing.
herb is one of the most technical drummers alive, he innovates drums like albert einstein innovated math and physics, i wish i could be half as good as him
This is one of my long time favorite drummers. His style and approach on the drums is unlike any drummer i have seen. I can't even combine his sound between other famous drummers either.
alexander might not compete with others dynamically, but hes basically the grooviest drummer around. i could see him playing any style of music while others limit themselves to fit in a certain genre.
this is basic yet very important drumming from Tim. He uses easy techniques in this video, but stays on time like a metronome. Also, he uses a wide variety of great sounds ie cymbals/drum heads/tuning. He is my drummer idol. He plays everything so chill yet its so technical.
i like the part when he hits the drum and the cymbal at the same time! WORD!
