  • I was just wondering if their will be any future video's showing where this tank stands to date?

  • hey G, very doubtful. long way to go for an aquarium service call.

  • Doesn't all that live rock piled like that create detritus area's within the rock, That will later lead to algae and nitrate.

  • hey S, it all depends on the water flow through the rock, and how it is stacked....and what you want to place on top of it.

  • @lafishguy Very True.

  • @lafishguy Thanks for all your videos and your information.

  • are there any other videos showing the jackson hole tank? besides episode 81?

  • hey F, for the original setup in Wyoming look for Episode 79

  • @lafishguy , I think its awesome you take the time to respond to so many comments, good for our passion , not just a hobby!! Many thanks!

  • Hello Mr fishguy there is some problem with ur videos, ur voice cannot be heard. it must be a problem on utube. as some videos of other people can be heard properly urs not. please do check in the problem, as we learn a lot from ur videos.

  • Hey, can you put one of these in a double wide trailer?

  • hey A, i would think you would want to re-enforce the floor in that area. keep in mind water is 8.3 pounds per gallon, plus tank stand decorations and equipment.

  • @lafishguy lol, i was just being sarcastic

  • Jim,

I know it's been a while now, but up to that point, in my opinion, you surpassed yourself on the rock architecture in this Wyoming job. Why do fun hobbies have to be expensive? Maybe I'll convert my 55 gallon fresh into a FOWLR tank.

  • screw the garage i wouldnt mind having that baby in my basement living room :D

  • Hey Jim, why no moon lights?

  • hey P, i believe the customer may have added some later.

  • why no fish?

  • hey B, it just got set up.

  • A well presented and coherent series without being patronising.

Your voice is well suited and easy on the ear.

Greetings from a cold and rainy Ireland.

  • hey D, thanks :)

  • just gr8

  • Why an aquarium top is always covered with a glass. doesn't it stops the light from entering ?

  • hey G, an ACRYLIC tank requires a solid top, with openings cut out of it, as structural support, and yes glass or acrylic does decrease the light that can pass through it. personally, I think glass tanks with their lids and support straps block more light than acrylic simply due to the saltcrust and algae that builds up on the underside of the glass. this tends not not occur in acrylic tanks ( see my upcoming episode on the Glass Reef Tank ).

  • Hay Jim nice job infact magnificant

can you tell me from which supplier have you purchased these live rocks from indonesia

  • hey A, the rock was purchased through Sea Dwelling Creatures.

  • the liverock setup is awful but the rest is allright good job maybe il contract you to come to mexico and do me a nice sps tank down here

  • You may have already come up with a solution to this but I don't think the house's surge protection would prevent you from using that computer as a controller rather than just a monitor. A whole house surge protector does not prevent surges within the house. It only protects the house from surges coming from outside of the house. As long as there are no surge protectors between the computer and the equipment, there should be no issues with the controller.

  • Lovin this already! I subbed, hey when (noticed I didn't say if) I win the Lotto, I'll fly your a** out here ta Texass and we'll figure some excellent kind of original thing to do as far as tanks. I'm a cali native that's just following the money heh. Biggest tank I had was a 75 gal. with various brackish including a firehead named Bruno. bought him for 2 bucks cause he had survived 2 weeks in a 10 gal tank as a pup. The other fish in that tank? texas cichlids. He was the Biggest in my tank.

  • i loved in jackson hole for a bit fucking sucks i work at there smiths

  • So, do you have any updates on this setup? Pics, vids, etc? Did this guy know what they were getting into in keeping an SPS tank? Why no refugium?

Nice setup by the way! I don't even want to guess what this guy's bill was with him flying you, your crew, a 280G tank, and 500 lbs of live rock to Jackson Hole.

  • hey J, i dont expect to fly back but got the following update ... It is great. installed LED lights today, we moved to MP40s and Zeovit program. We have ten SPS, two huge pink anemones, polyps, ten LPS and ten soft corals. There are thirty fish including a school of purple eyed cardinals and wrasses in addition to the fish you supplied us. 0ur phosphate is still a little high but with Zeovit and a reactor it should come down which should really enhance the coral colors.

  • Hey Jim,

In the video you said you were going to setup a quarantine tank also. Can you list the equipment you chose for that. I have a 180 living reef tank that has been running for about three years now and am seriously considering setting up a quarantine tank. I have been lucky so far, none of the fish have needed treatment, but that luck can't last forever. Thanks.

    Mike

  • hey B, that quarantine tank was 45 gallons and maximized its size in the space i was given. it was a UniQuarium, meaning it had its w/d filter built into its backside. aside from a heater, some crushed coral gravel and a few pieces of live rock left over from the main tank it was the same as any other small SW set up. I did suggest they have a bottle of copper medication since the more likely affliction would be parasites.

  • hey jim great show i found it really informative. just one question, why do these tanks use internal overflows to collect the water, why not just use an intake pipe?

would i be right in thinking that the tooth design at the top allows a large volume of water to be collected without risking fish falling into it?

  • hey B, the teeth do minimize fish from falling into but the overflow allows space for the a pre-filter, a Durso Stand Pipe, my suction and return lines for the 3600 GPH circulation pump, and the return assembly from the filter pump.

  • Just Awesome

  • Hey Jim, my marine fish tank ( about 9 months already ) can i put calcium reactors right now ? you set up this calcium reactors system , how much the cost ? where i can buy ? Please help me Jim. Thank you.

  • hey F, test your water first to confirm if you need a Cal Reactor. there are many available, I do not have a favorite. personally, I like using a 2-part solution.

  • Hey Jim, my marine fish tank ( about 9 months already ) can i put calcium reactors right now ? you set up this calcium reactors system ,how much the cost for one set ? where i can buy ? please help me.Thank you.

  • Hey jim i was looking online for the same kinda of live rock u have in ur tank for my 29 gallon but i don't think i spell the name correctley so i could't find it any help or where i can order it from

  • hey 40, you will need to find a retail fish shop that is able to special order the Indonesian Live Rock from the Los Angeles based Sea Dwelling Creatures wholesaler.

  • @lafishguy THANKS JIM

  • Yo Jim.....What kind of lights are these? And where can i get some for my tanks?

  • hey S, standard metal halides and T-5 power compacts. take a look at Hamilton Lighting.

  • The lighting is amazing in that tank... Good job Jim! You have good taste in aquascapes.

  • hey jim,i'am setting 29 gallon salt watertank, how much wood the water chagin be and why not dow a toer again and has any of your costermers have yellow tangs, video at the fish store again,

  • hey M, i really dont do small SW tanks so I am the wrong person to be asking the water change size question. very few of my customers have yellow tangs as I dont feel they are a hardy fish.

  • 10 % once a week

  • @MrColenutt I have a 28gal nanocube. I do a 4 gallon water change once a week. You want to do about 10-15% a week. I also think that a tang is too big of a fish for a 29 gal. For a tang to be happy I would say your minimum should be about 50 gal.

  • Hey jim Have you ever set up a aquarium in new york city?

  • hey S, no i have not... yet.

  • fab work jim and what a brill tank :)

  • I hope the owner of this aquarium invites you back so we can get a view of it once it has all the coral/fish in it. This could be considered a "Dream Tank".

  • will be waiting for the updates!

    and yes keep moving forward.

  • can you do a video about breeding egg laying fish.

  • hey, Lafishguy in a few years I may get 450-600 gallon aquarium. I'm just asking but if I give you the correct amount of money would you be able to come over to the United Kingdom or is it only the United States that you do.

  • hey J, for the "correct amount" of money I will travel :)

  • yes and then obviously the setting up charge.

  • Great job with that tank Jim..

I know is up to the customer but those are not the best type of rock to do a reef tank....It would be very hard to place coral cause your going to need flat surface area....

  • hey M, you are 'assumming' the corals will come with flat bottoms.

  • SPS corals usually come on plugs for smaller pieces or some sort of flat base for larger pieces. So yes you do need a fairly stable surface to place SPS coral unless you want a bunch of frag. :) But more importantly, allow some time for the tank to mature to the right parameters b4 adding any SPS corals. The slightest change in water chemistry can kill your coral over night. Reef Responsibly

  • I love watching your videos. i have learned so much. Thanks and keep up the Great Work

  • hey jim, will we see you putting fish into the tank?

  • hey D, if I get invited back.

  • can you show a video about fresh water piranha fish.

  • hey M, sorry, piranah are illegal in California

  • Jim are you going to show this tank with all the corals getting put in , And all the fish That would be cool

  • hey D, if I get invited back

  • Auto Top Off. To automatically fill fresh RO water into the tank. They are really handy. Instead of me filling my tank with RO everyday, I have one of these and it does it for me. It contains a float valve in the sump that when activated, activates a pump that pumps in fresh RO water from a resivoir.

  • hey A, yeah I am familiar with them. i've turned a couple of SW systems into FW in the past with them. I think its better to be involved... and they are not really techies.

  • Hi Jim, I'm Mish from the UK. I was wondering how long you'll cycle the tank for and also if you'll be adding any cycling aids such as 'cycle' or Sechem's stability to kick start biological filtration?

  • hey M, the tank has gone through an initial cycle with the LR. i am considering suggesting that we push it through another cycle ( using a mussel or uncooked shrimp ) but the confusion and time factor are issues to consider as well.

  • Hey Jim. So you aren't installing an ATO? Seems like you would have with all of the other gadgets going on the tank.

  • whats an ATO?

  • Jim tank is looking great wondering if you use a different outlet and not put on surge protector that you could use the controller i'm sure you guys discussed that already what are you gonna do or nothing at all?

  • hey C, that house is on a giant surge protector out at the post.

  • that sucks you can't use the controller to full ability but better to have all the surge protection

  • nice, that is a amazing tank. Once they get the corals and stuff, please make a video, I'd love to see it in a few months

  • Does the BioCube 29gallon come reef ready. I mean do i have to by things like a light or a special filter?

  • no the biocube does come with the filter and light but i would suggest upgrading the light

  • hey L, sorry but i dont do small SW tanks. i was always taught dont do SW in less than 50/60 gallons as the lack of volume creates a lack of stability problem.

  • needs a upgraded light and a protein skimmer go with the red sea max those are the best tanks they have carbon, protein skimmer and heater and t5s built in

  • If i buy a bio-cube though, cant i just switch out the bulb?

  • you need to get a new ballast the come with two bulb spots and i think it is 48 a bulb so that would be 3 watts per gallon and you need more than that so the have ballasts that you can put in there so there is 3 bulb or a metal halide but that is the only way unless you stick to mushrooms

  • HD, nice

  • hey jim another great vid, i was wondering what knds of corals are going to be in this tank i would guess a lot of sps and lps since there's a calcium reactor on there

  • hey D, yes SPS and LPS's

  • i love your work!!

  • your fishkeeping acumen never ceases to amaze me.

  • Wondering how much it would cost to fly you to Ontario Cananda for a weekend of speaking to local club?

  • hey I, thank you, that sounds exciting but not sure if I have enough free time to get away. I suspect $800 in airfare plus car and hotel.

  • Thats not too bad. Will see what comes back. Love to meet you up here.

  • Is that crickets I hear in the back ground?

  • hey Z, yes, runaway crickets from the reptile cages.

  • Great job man! One of the best I've seen. Im very impressed.

  • His video moto is the same as Toyota.....

  • great set of video's Jim.. Hope you can post some follow up video's with soft corals in the tank and what they guy is using as far as supplements go etc. Is there any video's in the works or plans of doing a reef tank that does not involve a protien skimmer. Example would be like Ecosystem miralce mud which does not need a skimmer?

  • i cant get enough of these vids

  • great job.....I hope you calibrate the ph probe before settiing it up.lol

  • Another great Video thx.

Setting uyp my 900 liters in a while and will pot up some movies about it to.

  • Jim. What is the biggest saltwater tank for a home you have ever seen or installed.

  • hey N, 2500 gallons in Bermuda
