I remember this one! Not much finesse but plenty of drama. I notice the ref didnt clean Bodells gloves before resuming after he got up. That could have been nasty.
Today , Dec 6th 2010 , I was walking to the Shop in Wapping & my Mind was thinking about Muhammed Ali's 65th Birthday Coming up Jan 12th ish & in front of me was Danny McAlinden , I Spent a While talking to him! A True Gent! I took his Mob & il be meeting him again! Trace SP

Not the most technically brilliant of fights, but exciting!
Bodell was so awkward that some fighters (eg Bugner) just couldn't work out how to beat him. And he could punch, though in this fight and the Quarry fight, he hardly had a chance to prove it.
Ironically, McAlinden's lack of finesse actually worked against Bodell - instead of trying to figure him out, McAlinden just charged in firing.
I was there, in fact I climbed into the ring at the end of the fight, it was chaos, I had only paid for the cheapest standing view but managed to work our my to ringside.
I think Jack must have been on drugs that night, he looked totally out of it from the first bell. I know the clips aren't complete but he hardly seemed to throw a punch in the fight.
bodel must have had something. He knocked out the giant Jack oHalloran who went the distance with a peak ken Norton in his next fight! ohalloran played the giant mute in superman2.
that right hand counter quarry threw to demolish bodell would've floored just about anyone.although have to admit up until the late 80s the british heavyweight division was dismal in world terms.
2 very poor fighters...how did Bodell ever become Heavyweight champion of Britain and Europe ?? McAlinden was just a brawler. Nice vid tho...thanx for posting.

I've seen milder pub fights than this. Remember watching this as an 11 year old kid. I think this pretty much finished Bodell's career.
A comedian on the telly a few days later said, 'Here's a quick impression of Jack Bodell.' and he kicked his mic stand over. The audience roared.

Anyone know how much Danny weighed about? I know he's heavyweight but he looks close to the 200lbs mark in this.

Just shows how much more brutal it was even then - no standing counts, no ref stopping thge fight. Bodell looked dreadful at the end...

Cholab, problem with Bodell was He was ko'ed in one by an average puncher in Jerry Quarry. Bugner must have taken the night off to lose to Him.

Jerry Quarry was no AVERAGE puncher! He kayoed, knocked down, or seriously hurt a large number of the top heavies of his day.

Jerry Quarry was no average puncher.. he punched hard enough to hammer Shavers in a single round and KO Mac Foster
