Sam. has a very bad service return from his forhand side, Ma could use it quiet well for his serve and finishing spin game style.

Chinese train their top players when they were children. For many years of intense training Chinese players do basic strokes as instincts. This play is a perfect example. Ma Lin power-drove the ball 'on or close to table' when the ball was lower than the net and he smashed almost every ball higher than the net 'on or close to table'. This is not a skill known to Samsonov', nor to Boll. And this is Chinese players' kill.

I remember Ma Lin beat Samsonov about a decade ago when Samsonov was at his career peak with a fresh European champion title in his bag.  Since then, Ma Lin has consistently beat Samsonov and I've seen the tall Russian guy's negative attitude toward his defeat again and again. This time Ma Lin beat him again like a routine. There is no smile or excitement on Ma Lin's face at the end of this uneventful match. It's boring by my high TT standard!

samsonov's returns are too easy for ma lin to kill him in short distance,

the reason of that mihgt be samsonov usually have a good defense to back him up even when his return wasn't the best.

but ma lin had a nice and controlled game. with nice returns for samsonov services. ma lin attack first for many occasions, and samsonov cant really defend with certainty in such close distance.
