everybody paints in different ways so I guess "correctly" is what ever works best for the individual. I work at Lombardi Bros presige repairs in Perth and I spray my clear on about 8cm from the panel moving very fast, over 12 years of painting I have found that works best for getting the flattest posible finish off the gun
This method of painting is one of the reasons why most of the mainstream bodyshops turnout noticeable repairs. No thought has gone into gun angle around the panel shuts to lessen paint build up or customising air pressure and nozzle distance to achieve a surface texture to match the original. I appreciate that you rarely have enough time to do the job well whereas quality is my master, not time.
would be nice if sata asked a painter what is needed on there £500 spray guns, to be better...like for example better air pressure adjuster knob on there gun, need a bigger knob or lever to get a finer/smoother amount of adjustment. a real painter would need to adjust the gun pressure several times during a job.
The most serious problem is that it i follow the instructions for clearcoating i end up with "runs". I mean that the cleat is very heavy and runs down the surface. What are the recommended adjustments that i should make to the gun (i have an hvlp gun) in order to have a consistend and not drip clearcoat? I usually apply the clear with 20psi pressure. Is that wrong?
@MultiTeoDesmo YOU CAN INCREASE THE SPEED OF YOUR PASSES ACROSS THE PANEL AND/OR TURN THE PRESSURE TO THE GUN UP TO BETTER ATOMIZE THE CLEAR, I SUMTIMES GET RUNS AND IT BECAUSE I MOVE THE GUN TOO SLOW OR TOO CLOSE TO THE PANNEL
ALSO BE SURE AND ALLOW ENUFF FLASH TIME BETWEEN COATS OF CLEAR SO THAT THE COAT PRIOR TO YOUR CURRENT COAT HAS TIME TO GET TACKY SO WONT RUN
nice job i have a question is not regarding so much about this video is about pearl jobs . is it the same apllication . like 3 coats of paint and 3 coats of pearl or no
@Zlyzer the more flat you get the primer/sealer & base the better the clear lays down another thing try not to glue coat it makes to much texture lay the first coat down the same way you would with you last then follow through until finish perferably 3 coats with a dried film build of 1 mil per coat anything lower more coats should be applied
hes arcing at the end of the pass to avoid creating a heavy edge where the gun ends. Its like blending the paint into the other panel. If the gun ends straight color will be darker and can lead to runs. When doing pearls or candy this technique will not work the entire side needs to be spray one shot by walking the side of the car.
.I love all of my SATA guns(5 of them)

You have no idea what you are doing. You can't blend or spray clear. Too bad. You don't know how to handle the gun.

or supply a plastic coated trigger clamp, so you can clean your gun in a gun cleaning machine without destroying the finish on a £500 gun.....

Minute 2:58 it says: "In case of this DEMONSTRATION", it's not demonstration?
Gunbaobserva 6 months ago
@Gunbaobserva They mean, In "the" case of this demonstation, 2 spray coats have been applied.
Its because they only show one coat being sprayed but letting us know 2 coats have been laid down.

Primer and paint is relatively easy to put on compared with clear coat.. putting clear on correctly really does take practice.
