i am french reader of french litterature and few american novels.his novel"to the bright and shining sun" is very good. The scenes of violence in the mine are terrible.
Since they are talking about "Cimarron Rose", my guess would be late '97 to early '98 to coincide with publication. This is first in series with main character Texas Ranger Billy Bob Holland. Mr. Burke's stated opinion regarding the American system of criminal justice, evil and the kingdom of darkness are on point. One such current example of an individual crossing the "evil" line might be Brian Nichols whose trial started recently in Atlanta.
yep...you don't have to go near the bayou to taste a ham and vidalia sandwich and iced tea with mint at the picnic table under the spanish moss....he's a beast of a writer..
Clete, you'd slide your swizzle stick into anything female. So would I. That's why I like you! I gotta give you credit, you sure did tear off a bunch of hot puss out in Montana recently!
I read some review by People that said he wrote, "With dialogue so sharp you can shave with it." His descriptions make me think I'm on the bayou looking out at alligators with hooded eyes. I first read Burke when I was fourteen. It's what made me want to become a writer. My favorite is Purple Cane Road.
Clete Purcel is one of the all time greatest creations in literature.

Too bad he can't write 'em as fast as I read 'em. Clete and Helen are two of my favorite characters in all of modern writing.

Great author. His most recent book Rain Gods is awesome; the brilliantly-created characters are superb.

from a french reader of burke's novels; "to the bright and shining sun" (1970) is very good ; description of a miner named
"little j.w " very acute: says his hands and face were "tatooed" by the coal dust. "little j.w", a dangerous man...

Great down to earth writer. Jolie Blon Bounce, all time favorite. Clete Purcel is the best in the series...

Exceptional writer. Didn't catch what he said in respect of capital punishment and the legal mechanism: 'pathology doesn't know...'
