Since they are talking about "Cimarron Rose", my guess would be late '97 to early '98 to coincide with publication. This is first in series with main character Texas Ranger Billy Bob Holland.  Mr. Burke's stated opinion regarding the American system of criminal justice, evil and the kingdom of darkness are on point. One such current example of an individual crossing the "evil" line might be Brian Nichols whose trial started recently in Atlanta.

I read some review by People that said he wrote, "With dialogue so sharp you can shave with it." His descriptions make me think I'm on the bayou looking out at alligators with hooded eyes. I first read Burke when I was fourteen. It's what made me want to become a writer. My favorite is Purple Cane Road.
