  • how to make this with sleeves

  • would it be alright if i just used a sewing machine?

  • hello, i just wanted to know the type of fabric you used and where you got it. pls, pls, pls. I need to know cuz i noticed you dint hem the neck, so pls again, thanks.

  • nice! thanks

  • That is so cute

  • it would look better with a finished neck and armholes

  • What kind of fabric is best for this? You would need one that doesn't fray, since you havent hemmed the neck, right?

  • wow, that top looks so easy! thanks for the tut.

  • why dont you just use a sewing machine ? be alot easier and quicker :)

    but iLOVE your top !

  • why dont you just use a sewing machine ? be alot easier and quicker :)

  • lovely project, i will sew it on sewing machine however and will finish the neckline with a tiny hem! thanks for the tips! im doing this as a plus size project and will be making it long like a tunic! awesome!

  • your tops are so beautiful and easy! thanks, i subbed!

  • love your vids! :)

  • wow this is amazing im only 14 years old and i want to be a designer when im older these vids are a great help! :)

  • nice tutorial =) i love stitching my own clothes as it gives me a sense of immense satisfaction. a small tip while doing the neck would be to fold the material in half vertically and make a diagonal or circular cut (depending if u want a 'V' neck or a round one) at the side where all the folds meet.

  • @cascades92

Thank you so much for sharing this tip and supporting The Discount Trendsetter Show.

  • I like this a LOT!!

  • What kind of fabric is it- a stretch knit?

  • LOVE IT THANKS FOR SHOWING

  • This is a lovely, quick tutorial that looks great. But think it only suits busty women.

  • I loved the video, your steps are so simple... Thanks alot ! You're the best :)

  • @Wizhsarah

Thank you so much for supporting The Discount Trendsetter Show. I will have my online sewing school website up really soon.

  • I admire you

  • excellent work, like it very much, i will try it myself,

    thanx for uplouding :)

  • I think you did a great job!!!! What are some suggestions on how to have the V neck look clean. Could I use binding to make it look finished.

  • @MoneyMindedFocus

Yes, you can cut binding strips out of your fabric to finish the edges or you can purchase some binding strips at your local craft store in a contrasting color to give your shirt some additional flair.

  • hi, i like your show, its really easy to follow.

I was wondering how you make a shirt with sleeves, does it require different steps than the short sleeve shirt?

    Thanks :D

  • @DarkPrincess1894

    Hello DarkPrincess,

Thank you so much for supporting The Discount Trendsetter Show. Sleeves can be a little complicated. Generally, you would need to draft a bodice and balance the sleeves to the bodice armhole. Now where there is a will, there is always a way to still get the job done. You can actually trace the sleeves of one of your current shirts and blend it to the armhole.

  • IT LOOKS WEIRD ON THE BACK

  • I have received emails asking where in the Bible it speaks of wise women making their clothes, feeding their families, being frugal at the market, etc. Proverbs 31 speaks of these wise attributes. Thanks for asking.

  • reminder: WATCH THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN

  • It's great, but maybe you should hem the sleeves and the neck? Just a thought.

  • Love the shirt!! Looks awesome. I'll have to try it one day.

  • Tums up sister

  • love your videos!

  • @dolphinsandsunsets

Thank you so much for supporting The Discount Trendsetter Show. I will be posting a new DIY video this weekend.

  • The shirt is so cute! thanks a lot.

  • love this! ur making everything so simple!! thanks!!

  • Thanks for this great Video. What do you suggest for the V- neck edge so it looks cleaner?

  • TisSewSweet,

You can finish the V-neck by folding 1/4 under then do a top stitch, or you can add binding to the top for facing.

  • You know... I was actually really surprised at this video. It was way more discriptive then other DIY clothing videos i watched prior to this one.

    But i'm definatly Subcribing.

And I'm definatly going to my fabric store when it opens in an hour, ahahah.

Thanks for helping me expand my summer wardrobe! :)

  • Slimbeigemama,

Stay tune. I will be showing you how to make some simple summer dresses soon. The videos will be more detailed

  • I would like to make a dress from this project. how much fabric do I need to make it go to the top of my knees and what type of fabric.

  • very cool!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thank you!

  • Hey Amber,

I am so sorry for the delayed response. Yes, I did sew around the neck to give it a finish look.

  • okay im actually making this dress now....did you not sew around the neck?

  • very cute...im def. going to subscribe!

  • Hi - I enjoyed the video, next time though can you describe the fabric type...knit, cotton etc...It looks like you used a stretch knit. Great job on the summer shirt!

  • wow u got super powers u disapeared from 1:04 and moved to another cheap stuff

  • Wow I'm glad you are patient enough to do this without a sewing machine. Thanks for the video =)

  • What a great idea. I'm going to try this shirt, it looks great.

You should try bring someone of plus size onto your show to make a maxi dress.

    Great work

  • You have fantastic ideas!! I love it!

  • the best thing u do here is that you start from the begining...i mean other DIY's are starting form old shirt or something n then make what they want....thx anyway...:)

  • Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. Expect more DIY videos in the future.

  • thanx so much for all the videos. Having free lessons is great! I plan to go to the art instutude and entering a competition to get a scholorship! Can you show me how to make sleeves for a shirt?

  • OMG u so smart! How can u make mens blazers

  • HEEEEEEy, that is a cute shirt.

I thought it was going to come out looking a bit taky but you really did your thing!

    LOOKS GREAT!!

  • I think all of the guys (and maybe some of the girls) got lost at "measure straight across" at 1:38 !

    lol..... you go girl!

  • that was a really cute shirt! at the end I noticed that the V neck in the back was slanted to right, not exactly sure 'bout that...

  • Love this! Thanks!

  • make more clothes please i love them !

  • is it easier to do it with a sewing machine or with a needle and thread? and awesome video

  • I did this video by hand so people without a sewing machine could make the project. I think going forward I will start to use my sewing machine on camera.

  • That is a beautiful top.

  • Did I miss how to finish the neckline?

  • No. I am sorry the video was running too long. To finish the neckline, turn about "5/8" inc or (1.5 cm) fabric inward. Then stitch along the seam to create a finish neckline.

  • ty :)

  • FANTASTIC channel! i just stumbled across your channel earlier today; I've been glued ever since! I will definitely recommend to other youtube members and friends (I'm also from the New Orleans area!) Keep up the great work! :D

  • Thanx for the vid! I love your haircut and that t-shirt too! Glad I subscribed!!!

  • that is soo cute!

  • I love that top & will be making it! I love wearing shirts that length (covering up my backside lol)

  • i can barely make a pllow

  • The Bible tells we women that part of our job as a wife is to be thirfty but to make ourselves modestly dressed and our homes beautiful. Your website helps we wives to do our jobs better. Thank you so much!

  • @DKMontoya4670 Where does the bible say that?

  • @animastwentytwenty Proverbs 31 tells us the responsibilities of a wise woman

  • @DKMontoya4670 - great comment :-) Today seems like we are to believe there is something wrong with being a woman who can cook and sew. But it's great. What better that being able to look great for only a little amount of money and prepare healthy, delicious food for your hubby and children without breaking the bank. Proverbs 31 woman are great lol

  • This would be so cute to make!

  • This is another life saver! I like the length and it is very flattering, I shall definitely give this a try. You look absolutely gorgeous in that top!

    Many Thanks!

  • you have an talet, i wanna know how u make a gown, or a dress, and a long sleeve dress.

  • I like this, however, someone as obese as this would not work. The problem lies in that my stomach and hips are wider than or stick out more than my shoulders. Thus, I would have to measure it at the sides of the biggest part of my person and figure out the top part later. Also, on the back of your shirt, the vee neck was not even. What about when you make your mark on the front and back where the point of the vee is, ...to be continued.

  • and then at top of one of the shoulders. Then unfold your material and refold it lengthwise. Then carefully cut through both layers of fabric from the shoulder to the vee on the front side, and then repeat from shoulder to back on the back side. Then unfold the material and refold it to the original way and hopefully the cut marks on the right side of the shirt should match the cut marks on the left side of the shirt.

  • oops..! I just read what I sent, and realized how insulting my first sentence read on my second message because I left out an import word. I needed to add the words "me as". Such as "someone as obese as this would not work" should have read "someone as obese as me, as this would not work" Please forgive my typos.

  • You shouldve sewn it from the inside out cause you can see the seam on the side.

  • Thank you for your comment. I did actually sew the fabric from inside out. This fabric looks the same on both side.

  • good job am actually learning alot.

  • wow! very nice! I love it!

    Great job girl!!! :)

  • great job 5 stars!

  • Great Job this is something I will try. I'm New to sewing but looks really easy . Thanks

  • good job girlie!

  • I take it this is to give one a concept b/c looking at this the v cut was not straight and had a raw edge which will eventually fray as will the sleeve opening. But I do like it. Any suggestions on resolving the fraying?

  • good point. i guess you could try hemming thoe whole way up and down the fabric BEFORE measuring for the sleeve opening. i'll probably try this, maybe without doing the v neck for the back though cos i dont like how it looks (not cos its wonky, just in general)

  • oh.. that is actually pretty easy fix, all you need to do is fold in the fabric twice, then hem the edge or sleeve the the raw edge is not exposed therefore the edges wont fray i hope this helped :)

  • Wow - this is wonderful! I wish I would have found you way sooner!! God bless!

  • you're absolutely brilliant! thank you SOOO MUCH!!

  • You are so lovely! I love this video and your final words for the week.

  • Excellent girly! I love this idea.. so nice.. I'd like to see you make a off the shoulder shirt as well. I think those are so sexy for the summer time.. just subbed!

    Blessings,

    Sophie

  • great.....simply gr8!!

  • Very cute!!! Can't wait to try this. Does it matter what kind of fabric it is like cotton or linen? Thanks!

  • Kemoja,

You can choose a fabric of your choice. However, I suggest selecting a fabric that has a little stretch to it since I didn't use a zipper to get in and out of the shirt. I think a cotton fabric would work well for you.

  • very cute. I just subscribed

  • I love it!

Can you make a tutorial on how to make a tank top?

I really need one for the summer

  • This is great! I just got a new sewing maching and I'm still learning to use it. I hope you will maybe do a simple sleeveless dress. Have a wonderful night!

  • Hi, D gulley whats the best cell phone company. that has good prices. i trust your answer. Be cause u are the discoutTrendsetter.

  • I am currently with Sprint and I have been with them for 10 years. Since I don't know what city you're in, I would tell you to go online and enter your zipcode for the main providers like Verizon, Spirit, T-mobile. Compare prices to see who is offering the best deals to fit your needs. Keep in mind, the more features you have, the more you will pay.

  • very nice!! the shirt looked awesome!!

  • Beautiful personality, beautiful show!

  • The neck line looks to cutted.. How can I change this?

  • you can buy double fold or make it out of the fabric and give it a nice clean finished ends.

  • You can also cut your V out of newspaper then pin it to your fabric so you will have more of an a precise cut. Then you can tuck a very small portion over like the sides of the shirt and create a small hem around the V neck to give it more of a polish look.

  • I will try it :) thank you

  • You are sooo adorable and I love that you wore the shirt you made. It looks good on you!

  • Wow... GREAT JOB!!!

  • maybe you should show what the shirt is gonna look like, then watchers know what you're making

  • I agree. Knowing what the finished product looks like would make following the instructions a LOT easier! This is a great idea though

  • It realy is a great idea, especialy if you don't have much money.

Or if you just like to make your own clothes.

  • Really cute! I think I'll try it.

  • love it

  • did you go to fashion design school? cuz thats interesting

  • I would take a ruler and a newspaper. Measure an equal v neck so that ur V doesnt look crooked. Cut the newspaper v and place it on the garment. Pin the paper down and cut around it. Then ur v neck or crew neck wont look uneven.

  • Wow, this is super cute. I'm just afraid I would somehow screw it up (I've never sewn before).

  • this is really cute, I must try it. Going to get some Fabric this weekend
