It is not 'rather sad' at all - it's just a happy and carefree approach to music making and learning, while still being entertaining and informal as the Tanglewood classes are intended to be.
Do you deny Perlman's artistry, or the promise of the young student?
I was wondering why i've never heard of this amazing young violinist in this video, "Chou Lian Ling." I soon realized it was THE Cho Liang Lin. Spell it right.
Correction on the name of the violinist, his name is LIN Cho-Liang. He is Taiwanese-American, and is of Chinese descent. With respect, appreciate if you'd make an effort to get the name of the artist right, thank you.
Itzhak Perlman, a victim of polio which destroyed his ability to use his legs has used his superior talents to become a violin virtuoso unsurpassed. On December 16, 2009, he presented a concert in the Kennedy Center to benefit Rotary International's Polio Plus program to eradicate polio from the world. It only exists in Kenya and SE Asia now and must not be allowed to spread. The 1.2 million Rotarians around the world have this cause as their #1 goal.
When this film was made, Itzak were 33 years old...and Bazzini's "La Ronde des Lutins " is the song in the credits, of course. Mr. Perlman loves to play it !
How not to staccato: Drop your entire of your right arm into the bow, change speed to get sound. the weight should be in the bow but you still have to regulate bow pressure. practise different stroke lenghts and speeds to get used to it.
What nonsense.

It is rather sad - they both treat the instrument in terms of a circus stunt rather
than making music .
