The analogies of comparing moon to earth are naive when making the case of agw. It's not mentioned in the comparison the magnetic field effect of both earth and moon and or either mercury. Earth has it's atmosphere and it's determined or dictated by it's own magnetic field.

@Zonly1 While it is Earth's magnetic field that enables our planet to maintain its atmosphere, it is the properties of the greenhouse gases within the atmosphere that enable it to retain the energy received from the Sun. The end conclusion is the same. With no atmosphere, or a negligible one in the case of Mercury, neither our Moon nor Mercury is able to retain the solar energy it receives. The reason why our Moon and Mercury have no atmosphere does not change these conclusions.

@FreshAirScentOfPine but your comparison to the moon and mercury should not be considered based on their week magnetic fields in comparison to earth's magnetic field. It's apples to oranges.
