I love these performences, but I feel so bad for LENNY. He is trying to explain himself for saying things he has every right to say. He was a genius, way ahead of his time. If only he would have known 2 years later the supreme court would have over turned his conviction, he might have lived a little longer. But to us the fans he lives FOREVER!!
@dinosaurjr at this point in his career he was so paranoid because of vice cops sitting in the audience waiting to pounce at the first "dirty word" and nations banning him, that his routine was largely both about spoofing his problems (as well as exposing the hypocrisy behind what he saw as persecution). In this routine he's not doing his routine but introducing it as "evidence." I don't see how it's not funny--I think it's hilarious--but it's very cultural-context specific.
He said police, and even if he had said priest brutality.. just take my previous statement and insert that instead, and it would still work. Child rape counts as priest brutality right?
@MvNPTI You're right, he was wrong about police brutality. But this was way before the Rodney King beating and all the publicity about that sort of thing came out. He was basing his opinion on the evidence he had seen and examined up until that point. You can tell that he was a person with a constantly evolving worldview, because he always speaks about realizing things and making connections. He was a very intelligent person and I'm sure his opinion would have changed had he lived longer.

His 1964 conviction in an obscenity trial was followed by a posthumous pardon, the first in New York state history.
