  • Great cover! Hint: Listen to Sister Change.

  • I’ve been In the music business for many years and I agree, this Is the best version I’ve ever heard. Rock-on!

  • I wish I still had my Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush albums from the '70s- what ever happened to them?

  • @chefphony i still have mine

  • Saw these dudes like 8 or more times back in the 1970's Frank and the boys know how to Rock and Roll. ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YESSSS

  • 素晴らしい!

  • I remember being blown away by this back in '78 or so - its still great but now theres the nagging suspicion that sick guitar tone may not be totally 'live'. Knowing studio engineers ruins your appreciation of things like Live and Dangerous (which should have 'in the studio' as a subtitle) I can't listen to MSG Live at The Budokan now because the guys at Air studios in London had to basically get the band to re-record it due to the original tape being so bad - Gary Barden's parts were unusable

  • Still play this album which I bought in 78 at Zayres for 4.99 and that was expensive.

  • are you fucking kidding me??...This motherfucker kicks everybody's ass on this song....HENDRIX INCLUDED <<< sorry Jimi

  • I do and have for quite some time now, he's amazing just listen to "Somethings Coming Our Way"

  • This is Hendrix brother from another mother

  • Awesome version.

  • Frank Marino is one of the greatest guitar men most people has never heard. I close friend of Jimi Hendrix, Marino took the death of his friend very hard. The Album Maxoom contains a tribute to Jimi Hendrix, that many thought was actually Hendrix' work. It was of course not, and the composition of frank Marino. The rumor of it actually being Hendrix persists to this day. Frank Marino, the greatest Axe man few have heard of, Pity.

  • A great version by Frank Marino the only two guitar player that i know who really captured some of the Hendrix spirit is Frank Marino and Robin Trower.

i am still trying myself lol please check my cover of that song on my channel and tell me what you think !

  • Best cover of PH I've ever heard!

  • @tvonmac I remember my 1970's stereo.4 nova 7 speakers. And this Album.Your right. This is the most awesome cover ever.Jimi was smiling the night he recorded this Gem.

  • That sustained tone at the end is from another world...wish the recording of Dragonfly from this show was on here.......it was awesome too.

  • I had this on 12inch around 1984...then some mo-fo stole it...Its great to hear it again Im going to the states soon would love to see Frank live...what a kick ass cover.

  • @honkybread I still have the original LP.

  • I saw Mahogany Rush open for Judas Priest in Los Angeles years ago still one of the best shows I have ever seen.

  • @ProdigalSin saw them open for Blue Oyster Cult 1975 in Omaha Nebraska, BOC didn't stand a chance!

  • im 44 yrs old,i usta listen to this before i went to sleep every night on an 8 track when i was a kid

  • i saw mahogany rush in the 70's..awesome band

  • Eddie Van-Who?

  • One of the of the few super groups from the 60's.

  • frank is just flat out hard core killer tone !!

  • This version we are trying to do in our page.....fantastic!

  • i saw an illustration of his pedals setup once in I think Guitar Player magazine or whatever. It was ultra complicated set of pedals and parralel re-routing. Hard to believe that Gibson SG could sound like a strat.

  • omfg that TONE.

  • So heavy ! The best version of Purple Haze ! I agree !

  • @Hellishcrusade When you can play like that..post it. How old are you???

  • i saw Frank and Mahogany Rush do this live at the Meadowland in New Jersey in 1978... absolutely stunning live and in a large arena...

  • Frank is my second favorite guitar player, and the live album is the best live ever!!!

  • Good God ! AWESOME !!!

  • Rawk!!!!!

  • I think I will just be one of the greatest guitarists around but I won't let anyone know so I won't be famous or anything that would hold me back from JUST PLAYIN and HAVIN' FUN............. Well frank - you got yer wish - you are one of the greatest - AND - you aren't that famous! "ROTYMO" (ROCK ON TILL YOU MOVE ON). I still love yer stuff man!!!

  • baddddddd assss fucking guitatist..............

  • Frank Marino still owns the Best Trill ever... check out "Talkin' Bout A Feeling" on this very album... not a bad trill on this track and Johnny B. Goode either...

  • This is off Mahogany Rush Live the black album with the red insignia in the middle. It's one of the best live rock albums of all time.........

  • @kyuss4me

    YES IT IS!!!!

I've listened to the MH Live album more than any other live album. Blows me away every time!

  • So DOESN'T suck Marino is a legend!

  • Probably the most under rated hard rocker of the late 70s and early 80s.

  • sucks

  • So DOESN'T Suck Marino is a Legend

  • @daphnezian26 you suck !

  • @daphnezian26 Brain damage?

  • Cal Jam?

  • Frank is the main influence that inspired me to take guitar serious. This track launched me into getting anything I could find on MR. Thanks Frank for all of your kick ass rockin ! Glad I got to see you Live a few years ago. Please tour again soon, in Florida now.

  • wow..FRANK KICKS ASS !!! AND HE DOES IT WITH JUST A CRY BABY AND STRAIGHT AMPLIFICATION !!..NO TRICKS,NO BULLSHIT !! JUST SHEER ENERGY !!! ROCK ON !!

  • He IS however using a flanger and a slight delay. But it STILL sounds AWSOME! I saw Mahogany Rush in Greensboro,N.C. in I believe it was '76 or '77 and they blew Aerosmith OFF the stage! It wasn't even close! Half the people in the coliseum left half-way through A-smith. And the funny thing about it, I was probably one of the few there that had EVEN HEARD of M. H. Everyone kept asking me who they were.

  • Uuuhm I just read that he has tons of effects and a really complicated set up actually.

according to Guitar Player, he has "an entire pedalboard ... assigned to hold the expression pedals that control the parameters of the effects on another pedalboard."

So maybe a little more then just a crybaby and an amo xD

  • Raul I totally LOVE Jimi, but I still quote you:

"This may be the best version of the song I have ever heard"

  • R u insane.

  • Aw Hell Ya

  • Frank is everyone's favorite guitarist, they just don't know it yet...

  • I was listening Frank in early 80's....and like him!

    Good guitarist!

  • @rmg13021 LOL yeah i gotta agree.He is a great player.

  • Saw this show 4/79 in Orlando. Out of this world! Wore out several copies of the vinyl version!

  • Still makes me groove..way to go Frank (and Jimmy - We Miss you man)....

I think Jimmy is playing along with Frank from the other side..

  • I like the solo towards the end where he adds a few flourishes of his own and one long loping phrase.

  • yeah I had this record waaay back when - played it to death - classic!

  • the best cover of purple haze you will ever hear.and this was done 31 years ago...

  • It is a tribute song he is not copying Hendrix I feel Marino has a lot in common with Hendrix,

  • Frank marino and jimi hendrix rule!

  • Great tribute from one Guitar god, to another, Hendrix is forever

  • This version makes Jimi roll over and say ....WOW

  • why use tube amps if u can this type of sound usinging acoustic 270 amps?

  • I agree. The BEST version of Purple Haze by another group. Frank Marino is one great guitar player. Not many people even know about Mahogany Rush!

  • @ILoveLauriePartridge i do, saw them in L.A. cant remeber what year, maybe 79 at Santa monica Auditorium, amazing

  • @ILoveLauriePartridge - I think we should keep it that way.

  • @Hellishcrusade Brain damage?

  • @TheStulzRage - Brain dam?

  • Frank Marino kills!! He does Jimi some serious justice- awesome tribute to a great legend from The Man himself!

  • Note for Note! Sweet Guitar player!!

  • This isn't note for note.

  • EXACTLY! Thats what makes it good.

  • Two words "RANDY HANSEN"

  • although it is true he did not write a lot of original material. He did however sing and shred the guitar at the same time and that alone takes a certain amount of coordination. I've caught Frank a few times at Winterland and the Cow Palace as well as the IBeam in the Haight Ashbury and after all that I think I can safely say that he takes his music real serious.

  • but frank's written plenty of his own material? he's made like over 10 albums... <.<

  • hendrix and marino are good. but you need to listen to anything my robin trower.

  • Absolutely! Robin Trower is outstanding! I had the honor of seeing him play 3 times- around '85, '89 or so, and early 90's. The man can kill you with just a few notes and some wicked chords!

  • i love robin trower

  • hendrix was the pioneer and marino took over his mantle

  • Yes sir!

  • Wake the dead with this song Man!!!

  • Man, people just HATE it when a musician covers a dead man's music. Marino blows anybody living right out of the water. In my estimation Jimi Hendrix was going lame when he aspirated his own vomit. Good career move.

To finalmind....Marino was writing and producing his own music way back in the early 70's. Before you insult a man's talent, DO SOME FUCKING RESEARCH!

Probably the slickest axeman ever to come out of Canada. I watch him open for some band called Nazareth in 77. Blew us away.

  • A men, brother! No disrespect to Jimi as he was a true legend, but damn, NO ONE wails quite like Frank whether he is covering Hendrix or jamming out his own cool tunes! I saw him live for the first time in 2005, then again '06 and '07. Hands down my favorite axe man!

  • Actually Jimi may have been killed.

  • Just shut the fuck

  • it's true. it's very likely Hendrix was killed, Idk why people give you thumbs down without looking up the Coroner statements themselves.

  • Going lame? You need to do some fucking research before you say shit like that. There would have been no Marino without Hendrix, where do you think he got most of his influence from??? Give me a break.

  • Jimi struck the match, and Frank lit the fire! Awesome tribute to a great guitar legend from The Man!

  • what an idiot

  • this is a good version from frank and i know, jimi hedrix, aproved this version, well done!!!!

  • im seeing him on august 22

  • This rendition (from FRANK MARINO & MAHOGANY RUSH LIVE 1978 - COLUMBIA RECORDS) is absolutely mind blowing, guitar god material for sure.

I'm certain Jimi gave Franks performance "a two thumbs, way up".

  • Saw him last night in Cleveland at House of Blues, he's soooo good. ha, I'd like to wake up next to him.

  • The most under rated guitar genius. He's been around forever, still kickin it out today and yet only a cult following. Rock on Frank, we appreciate it.

  • He sure plays the hell out of this!

  • さすがにコメントが外人さんばっかりですね。

    いろんなミュージシャンがこの曲を演ってますが、

    ジミヘンよりイイナと思うのは、マリノさんだけです、

    今のところ。

  • come again..

  • Used to hear this on WROQ as a kid. They were about ten years ahead of the times, so far as reviving interest in Jimi goes. Thanks for posting.

  • Frank Marino is one hell of a guitar player, saw him in the seventies, at the warner theater in Wash, DC

he drop his guitar in the middle of a solo and pick it up with out miss a beat

  • Yes I to saw Marino in the late seventies. At the Cleveland Public Hall during one of his many jams, he grabbed his guitar by the top of the neck and proceed to kick the body of the guitar several times. I sat awe struck and wishing to be able to play the guitar as fine as Frank Marino was.

  • I saw Frank in Finland Oulu, awesome.
