2nd, 3rd, 4th alarm etc are terms used by the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, which were adopted from the Americans. These terms replace, "make pumps 3, make pumps four" etc. it is an over complicated way of stating how many appliances are needed at an incident. This is to change back on the 21st of January 2008 and we go back to the straight forward option of just stating how many appliances you need.
