WHY, BBC, WHY did you include Marcy Lafferty in this otherwise good documentary? Did she finance it or something? It is so sad to see someone capitalizing on doing a Vivien Leigh act when she doesn't even do it well, and even if she did, I'd rather hear an extra 20 minutes of narration by someone who actually KNEW Vivian, than this poser!
bit sad that they have to keep constant tabs on the state of their relationship, 'at the start of the tour, at the end of the tour' - why don't they mind their own God damn business, the fall of most celeb relationships is the constant inspection by everyone around them, the media etc
that red headed woman mary smething seems totally insane, i HATE the way she talks, she pauses for severeal minutes, like fuck bitch get on with it, its like she is over acting herself or something, what annoyance
This woman who plays Vivien Leigh and admires her so much is scary in her obsession to me. Now, I loved Vivien Leigh as an actress and she was very beautiful, but used her beauty to get what she wanted when she wanted , not really caring who she hurt in the process, and this person is gushing "I so admired her as a woman"--well you are someone I would stay the h-ll away from then!
The man who talks about manic depression has NO IDEA what he is talking about it is embaressing. the "highs" are not "all is well" but rather, many people to become impulsive and reckless and to go on sexual rampages (that are VERY damaging to the person itself!!) I dont like people painting her as a sexual person when in reality she was very very sick and her "lovers" were just enabling her :(
I often wondered whether the role of Blanche DuBois had any effect on her subsequent breakdown. Now I know. Actresses with that kind of sensitivity should never play roles that are so close to reality (theirs). Judy Garland was offered the lead role in The Three Faces of Eve. She knew she could do a great job, but turned it down I think because it was too much like her.
@xander7ful They do say it was an issue> But I think doing the play in London THEN going on tour THEN doing the film was a big issue. She didn't have much time to get out of the mood even for a little bit. It is sad however that dispite the problems playing Blanche she gave one of the greatest performances of her career and of all time. A Streetcar Named Desire was both a blessing and a curse.
can some one clear up the part where the dudes like "she made voilent love to peter finch and inturuppted the production." like how does that interupt the production?
Why the hell is that Darcy woman even being interviewed? The others on there knew her in real life and have something valid to say, but she's a complete waste of space. She acted her on stage (badly from the clips I've seen) and that's it.
@Jenjenilou I know! Okay, so she acted as Vivien on stage...big fucking deal...but yet, here she is rambling on like she knew her or something...waste of time...
Somebody should tell this woman portraying Leigh, Marcy Something, that she looks nothing like Leigh, moves nothing like her, sounds nothing like her, and she would be better off playing Eleanor Roosevelt and NOT Vivien Leigh. Obviously Marcy thinks she is Vivien Leigh's twin or something, but she must be totally delusional. Her portrayal is a total embarrassment and shame against the memory of the exquisite Leigh herself.
Vivien Leigh suffered from bipolar disorder/manic depression which during her era was hard to treat, unlike at present time it is easily controlled by medication. I think during her era, electric shock was used. I think her condition was caused by several unhappy events she suffered during her childhood & her miscarriage when she's married to Lawrence Olivier. She eventually died of tuberculosis. So sad, she's a very beautiful & talented actress. May her soul rest in peace.
I think she had a multiplite personality... such people need to be in the center of attention, need much love and either they are happy or sad... they can't have a normal daylife like everyone else.. it's very hard to live with such a person...
These friends of hers are so...disrespectful. she probably depended on them to be loyal instead they are spilling all her private life in a documentary. How classy :/
"The return to the kind of sensual climate that she'd known as a child, put her imediately into a manic state in which she proceded to make.... Quite Violent physical Love to Peter Finch." LOL
@rainmechanic - I have to admit that I laughed at that statement! In what way did she "make quite violent love" to Peter Finch? Funny line, made even funnier by an English accent!
@AdriaD1212 I just googled Marcy Lafferty to see what she was an "actress" in and found out she was William Shatner's ex-wife and was in stuff like "Star Trek" and "Coffee, Tea or Me"...give me a break already!!
Its true many bi-polar artists and others have made incredible contributions to our culture. Read Dr. Kate Jamiesons book on the subject, its eye-opening. No person with bi-polar disorder need feel ashamed. The only shame is that we did not have medication to help ppl like Leigh when she lived.
This lady could act! On-stage and onscreen she was a true professional and I have to admire her for her gumption to "go on" even when she wasn't in the mental shape to do so....so talented! The young starlets of today could learn a thing or a thousand from this lady...
WOW! I had no idea Vvien had Bipolar. I was diagnosed 18 months ago and felt so ashamed! Now, however, with people like her, Winston Churchill, Stephen Fry and Carrie Fisher suffering I feel very proud as they are all strong people!
actually kim hunter said a lot of nice things about vivien in other interviews, and thought both she and jessica tandy were magnificent blanches, which is why hunter never saw another production of streetcar.
in this interview she's just referring to vivien's mental state.
my friends dont believe in star signs until i tell them a description of there birthchart and then there like omg that is so me i am such a typical gemini x
yep if i have the place time etc i have like 100 books on how to do it so yep and yep it is complex hard it took me 4 yrs to get it right i tried to do mine then got it then sent of for one pro chart and it was right so yey but yep xx
It's kind of sadly ironic that what's promoted by Hollywood as a dazzling personality is essentially symptomatic of severe mental illness.

What a tragedy. To rise so far and have so much and have it all taken away by illness that now could be helped. The mental illness and TB, both.

You know if you really think about it. We all have a disability or illness of some kind. It doesn't matter who we are.

I missed the first part of the documentary
so I don't know who the red headed
actress is but she is very dramatic when
she speaks and reminds me of Sharon Stone.

Why Kim Hunter has never said a nice word about Vivien?
I remember another documentary in wich she decribe her as a robot
I always believe that any of the "actor's studio" of that movie, has any kind of respect about Vivien`s talent
(Sorry for my pitiful english)
