Obama's new science advisor wants to put the sulphur back now. Are those companies that were required to buy carbon credits or invest in scrubbers going to get their money back?
It would be so much more efficient to run a saltwater desal plant and flood the desert lay in some mulch, grow corn and make fuel, the plants use co2 and release O2, we all win, jobs, money, cleaner fuel! IM a freakin genius! Lethalcobra2k3 for President, Ill fix Iraq and the economy in one shot, and I wont lie to you, much (jk)! Besides, I think we can compromise with drilling, by only setting up a few rigs, enough to drop gas by at least $1 OH, Id legalize pot and tax that=no deficit
OK, so we tax these guys into reducing carbon emissions so who is going to pay for this? We are. higher prices for goods and higher sales taxes because the price of those goods went up. There is a better way.
Let us not forget the biggest investor in foreign oil is GW Bush, McCain wants to continue the economic downward spiral that plagues the United States!
I agree on the Obama for pres. However, Co2 is necessary for plant life, so co2 doesnt kill plants. Co2 causes global warming, denied by repubs, but it is happening, our natural period of global cooling is currently counteracting this, but for how long? a few years ago, McCain opposed many environment conservation bills stating that they were exaggerated. McCain stated that ethanol isnt better for the environment, when in fact it is much better.MccCain = Mistake
Obama needs to be elected. Only he candidated that will eliminate CO2 that is killing plants and reverse the warming that is threatening to ALL of the people of the world. Obama will stop the WARS and use that money to fight CO2 and provide poor people with means to live. Vote OBAMA 2008 for CHANGE!
Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace International, is now a big-time booster for nuclear power (although he is no longer affiliated with Greenpeace itself).
If free markets were so wonderful, we wouldnt have pollution -- the free market would prevent it. If free markets were so perfect, we wouldn't have enriched Iran, Saddam, Islam and Osama. Guess what -- under free trade bullshit, we enriched Islam. Dumb move, but it was profitable at the time, right?
Short term profit isn't always the smartest thing.
Just look at South Korea. It's because there is an asymmetry of power dynamics, so basically the more powerful country, aka US, can dictate terms of trade in their favor. Free trade is never free, and will never be.
McCain brings corporatism to the table, a bad choice.
Rodgers' response is very good, and he's right in saying that there is danger in how you implement the cap and trade system. A good example is the early stages of Europe's system although I think they have addressed a lot of the initial problems.
Fucking Libertarians. Free Markets fail 99% of the time, and that is why market mechanisms is always government, not some invisible hand. Nuclear energy is shitte. Solar Energy is the only sustainable way forward.
Totally free market would have slavery, wide spread poverty, and pollution from hell. Rational limits that keep out the excesses of free market, but maintain the power of market forces, is vital.
A market left to it's own devices would most certainly fail, because of the failure to internalized most costs on the part of the public and corporations. Government is needed as a force to make corporations internalized costs, and not just make the environment subsidize our consumption. After the government passes legislation on this shitte, markets should be brought in to work their magic. There are other issues, but this is the biggest one.
I think the idea is to have a limited amount of credits available, which would correlate to the amount of CO2 available to be emitted. After that I think there would be stiffer penalties. But it all depends on how the the system is implemented, so there is a potential for problems.
excellent work!

I'm still trying to figure out why "free trade" enables the restriction of agriculture in certain countries.

These credits should be stopped because all it does is allow companies to buy their way out of pollution laws.
If they are profitable they`ll keep on buying these credits while continuing to pollute.
Where is the sense in that?
