You could say these are bad vocals by a choir teacher's standards, but based on my experience, choir teachers are always super pretentious and like crappy music. But when you're singing Indie Electronic Rock Thing, this is called unbelievably unique and amazing.

ugh. Should have realized this is what a hipster would recommend. I would rather hear nickelback at a 10 hour funeral than hear this repetition for one more verse
@wootwootbreh WHOAH man that was such a COOL STORY i had to read it OVER and OVER again and tell ALL my friends. thanks for the insight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Panda Bear, I think his songs and albums are unbelievably incredible. That being said, this vocal performance is embarrassingly awful. Is it always this bad? Do fans not care? I'm beginning to notice a common trend between solo electronic/chillwave type acts and mediocre vocals. Toro Y Moi, Washed Out (simply sings into a vocoder) ... all amazing artists, but no pipes.
@chiliwilli04 ok i ahte to do this but i am going to compare him to tom delonge for a sec. both artist have very difficult vocals that are hard to sing live. for people who listen to too much studio work its a shock to hear these guys live. sometimes its hard for the ear but if you listen closely live is just as beautiful if not more because its raw and with feeling.
@xamtofwords I liked your assessment, there, junior. But why did you have to say you "hate to do this" when comparing him to Tom? You're obviously a fan of both Noah and Tom, as am I. Be proud. Don't you hate how indie-hipster types talk about Blink like they were a fucking joke or something? Okay, fine, they sold a bunch of records, and a lot of douchebags liked them back in the day. The same could be said about the Beatles. Blink is a great band. Angels & Airwaves, too.
@chiliwilli04 Wow. I couldn't agree less. It sounds different than the studio version, sure. But I think his vocal was awesome. He belted it the fuck out. I loved it.
@cornpopsandacid i agree. this live is way better then the studio version. too much noisey sample going on in the background. plus it needs to be way slower
know you can count on me know you can count on me know you can count on me to get so up for it know you can count on me i'll get so up for it know at least i'll try who are you if im not up for it? where are you if im not up for it? in between your hands are they opening up a pretty ship, where are you if im not up for it? wanna put an arm around you like a forcefield switch keep you safe for just a little bit. in between your hands are they opening up a pretty ship, where are you if im (etc.)
I hate to be "that guy", but I really do like this performance a little more than the single version that just came out. The record is great, don't get me wrong, but I think this live version has a lot of emotional simplicity and beauty that got of lost in all the multi tracking.
here's what i think i can make out of his lyrics: know you can count on me know you can count on me know you can count on me to look so up for it. know you can count on me i'll look so up for it know at least i'll try. who are you if im not up for it? where are you if im not up for it? inbetween -------------------------------- thenn something about "keep you safe"...i could be totally wrong of course.
this, and some of his other stuff, kinda reminds me of like 80's "beleive"/pop music, i like the songs, but im not sure if i like how much they remind me of 80's lol, i kinda hate 80's music
I dunno man, i always liked Pandas lyrics better. Daily Routine is such a personal song. I think Aveys best lyrics come from his "romantic" side. I have a feeling that Avey makes things "fun" though, and that's greatly appreciated especially in the music space we live in these days.
@DornSupremacy i definitely get the romantic thing you mention. all you have to do is hear purple bottle. on the outside, i cant make sense of a single word....but i feel the love in it. and i know its a fun and romantic song to a girl
@thisisrobertb I don't get this...I've read this other places too. I've been an Animal collective fan since 2002 and I was all over that first Washed Out EP but to me Panda is not chillwave. Just don't get that at all. Toro Y Moi, Washed Out, Neon Indian, etc makes sense they have a uniform aesthetic that is quite similar but Panda is way different.

the way he sing the words is ...set him apart already. Words are abstract when he sing them. This will be my album of the year already.
