@nithelmusic no not really. with music thats anything like this, you have to be somewhat specific. Theres dubstep, electro, niche, dnb, hardstyle, hardtrance, trance, trip hop, melodic, ambientetc etc.

they all might appear similar at first (as a color spectrum if you will, yellow is nothing close to purple, just like dubstep and trip hop are different) but they are all quite different in different ways.

What defines dubstep is the kick/snare drum pattern, usually at around 142 BPM. Another usual characteristic (Though, not all songs follow this), is that the song will 'drop' after the 4th bar. Following that rule and provided the song is at 142 BPM, you can usually count on the song dropping at 0:55, which is kind of neat to know.
