now this is a real cartoon, back when cartoons were great and they made you want to get up on a saturday morning to watch them. Today's cartoon shows suck.
If this is the most frightening coincidence of your life, you must be very young. Hold on. Life gets much scarier.
As far as the Hercs are concerned, the "triceratops with firing horns" is Tundro. The rock ape is Igoo. The dragon is Zok, and the "pillowy looking guy" is two guys, Gloop and Gleep. The people are Zandor, Tara and Dorno. So.
No, not young at all. But, perhaps "frightening" is not the right word. as well as I should have said "one of" instead of "the most.". But it was very odd to ponder a question so obscure only to have it answered so directly a moment later by chance.
It's like sitting in KFC wondering what the secret recipe actually is only to have a hand-scribbled note in Sander's own hand blow up on a worn piece of paper to get stuck on my windshield on the way home.
I originally with to the Warner Archives site debating whether or not to order The FBI, and when I saw the DVD box of the Herculoids instead, I almost did a jig.
On June 6, 2011, Warner Bros... FINALLY RELEASED THE HERCULOIDS: THE COMPLETE ORIGINAL SERIES ON DVD! IT WAS ABOUT F******IN TIME!
It contains the original 36 10-minutes-long 1967 episodes of the series. Now, with this incredible collection finally available, planet Amzot will be saved... or not?. Zandor, Tara, Dorno, Zok, Igoo, Tundro, Gloop & Gleep are whaiting for you!
ALL STRONG, ALL BRAVE, ALL HEROES... THEY ARE THE HERCULOIDS... ON DVD!
What's wrong with humanity? TV used to be high quality, These Cartoons made little boys believe they can do anything, and fight for justice in The American Way
Why is it that, when comes to retro cartoons and\or music, the top rated comments are often negative? Why compare Herculoids to Hannah Montana or Ray Charles to Justin Bieber? Can't you enjoy what your experiencing right now?
KICKASS!! Gee, back then, EVEN cartoons had memorable, epic intros. Back when animators and studios gave a shit what the audience liked. They actually took the time to score pretty good music to go along with the awesome animation. Also, what 11 ASSHOLES disliked this?? Are you friggin shittin me? Oh well, 98% of the posters on here have GOOD taste.
This was one of my favorite cartoons! I grew up in the 90's but they played this on Boomerang and I watched it whenever it was on. Gleep and Gloop were awesome!
when I first saw the preview of this cartoon in the 60's and the music with it,I knew it was going to be exciting.
I luv when the enemy is coming that the huculoids spring into action and you here their sounds ready to fight and defeat their enemies who threaten to destroy and rule their land and the universe.
I faithfully watched all the HB action toons when I was a kid. They look a little hokie now but as a kid growing up in the 60's, this was the greatest. If they did a CG remake of this with a decent script, it would be killer!
That and the Jetsons. Danny DeVito as Mr. Spacely or nobody!
OMFG! Hey guys, how do you think a Live-action sci-fi movie with special effects and CGA would be like? Do you think that a bad writing, bad cast selection and a bad direction could ruined a possible Herculoids movie of that kind like happened with other Hanna-Barbera cartoons like Scooby-Doo? Or would you rather like an animated movie recycling Alex Toth's character design, vocal Mike Road/Don Messick FX and the AMAZINGLY AWESOME HOYT CURTIN'S MUSIC THAT I LOVE SO MUCH? Tell me what you think!
The Herculoids was a favorite of mine -- loved it.
But there's no call for deriding Family Guy; it's a brilliantly funny show.
And I agree, Pokemon is fucking garbage that proves that Japanese minds must be completely alien from ours. Any mind that "gets" that freako Japanese shit must be disordered in a significant way.
Now, THIS is the REAL intro to the Herculoids... not the one that introduces the character's names. I love Zok, the flying dragon, he was always a KICKASS. lol
@Rincewind1978 It's an old adventure cartoon from decades ago. I'm 30 & I remeber watching reruns of this when I was a kid. The guy, his wife, son & with the help of the blobs, stone ape & green dragon like creature protect their planet from various baddies.
This was fun to watch & they're still cool! Ashame some have a dormant if not dead imagination ;[
@Rincewind1978 The animation on Pokemon and Family Guy is garbage compared to this. Family guy's humor is so LAME, they have to reference old cartoons and shows just to get a reaction, from people like " Oh, I remember that". Also, Pokemon is like the worst Anime on television... my 2 yr old neice can draw better than that. lol
Yeah, totally agree, that's what we kids wanted to see, the brave heroes defeating their evil enemies. ¡and allmost all the herculoids's enemies died in the original episodes! ¡it's a pity that just were 36 violent episodes, the 11 new ones no were like the originals! ¡I'm Zandor, and if you want, I can give you some energy rocks xdxd!
these are when cartoons were good, not like now-a-days when cartoons have superheros in every show and the plots are all the same, love the old school toons
It was an exaggeration. Basically, the cartoons/shows of today can never compare to what we had back then. Cartoons weren't afraid to do things that are considered offending now.
There was also a Hercules cartoon from the early 1960s I think that my brother and I saw in reruns in the 1980s and there was a Centaur character named Newton.
@tinkles30 It's Tarah... and yes, she is HOT. Did you notice, how FLAT a stomach, she has... when she shoots that red flying monster with the slingshot? That is so SEXY, when a woman has a flat tummy. ;)
I was really little when this was out. I've been looking for it for 10 or more years. Awesome! My husband gave me a funny look when he watched it lol...
There are no good ideas for movies out there right now and lately they have been reaching back in the 60s and 70s for movies. I am pretty sure if someone thinks of this cartoon, they would make a movie out of it.
I loved this show and it reminds me of another show that I hope somebody here can name, for I have forgotten. The main character was a Tarzan kind of guy who had a club as his weapon, possibly wore some kind of mask and wore a set of horns... the cartoon was set in the jungles and was very similar to The Herculoids. I hope somebody can remember... it's killing me
that wasn't Mighty Mightor? another Alex Toth cration: he had a club that transformed him into a superhero, and he defended his billaje from a lot of enemies. His really identitie was the young man Tor, who was in love with Sheera, it was produced in the same year than the herculoids
I agree that a big screen movie of The Herculoids would be great! Also, a movie of Thundarr the barbarian, too! Zok was my fave from the Herculoids. Princess Ariel was my fave from Thundarr.
I have been saying that for years, and with the CG tech we have today, it's actually possible now! I agree, my friend! A live action Herculoids movie! It would have to be better than "Masters of the Universe" turned out!
Zandor, Tara, and Dorno would be unknowns, but the villain would have to have a little star power. Reguardless, the stars of the movie should be the CGI creatures anyway!
zandor must have some serious back problems slinging himself on those vines, who does he think he is captain america. Still, this show remains in our hearts so much because of those incredible creatures. I always favored Tandor, myself then Igoo. And stop the Gloop and Gleep bashing, folks!
Those multit purpose guys Geep and Gloop were my favorites. Growing up on this stuff was a pleasure they just don't make them like they used to. I tried to get my sun to watch one episode he could not handle it. Darn teenagers
Zandor, Tara, and their son Dorno. Igoo, the rock ape, Tundro, the ten legged triceratops, Zok, the laser firing dragon, and Gloop and Gleep, the blob thingies! Maybe that brings back some memories!
He was cool! The Stone gorilla Igoo was WICKED! He reminded of the Hulk. I noticed all the aminals had attitude when they fought law of jungle I guess. Herculoids Rule!
This is the first overture from "The Herculoids" (created by Alex Toth and produced by Hanna-Barbera in 1967), which brings the original theme song, composed and conducted by Ted Nichols.
thanks thanks shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit these were the cartoons man not that bullshit cn sends now if cn started sending the good old cartoons i'd be happy like shit damn i miss those days
Yes, the music is quite memorable. It's certainly a challenge to determine the source of that underlining "chord". It "seems" as though a human vocalist has been augmented to sound like a Therimen, the hands-free electronic instrument made famous by "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (and later cliched by other 50s sci-fi flicks).
Redfern, Thank's for bringing up the same thing I have been vexxed about for years! I too can appreciate a great soundtrack, and I'd love to hear H/B's music to all their "Action/Adventure" shows from the 60's released on CD. Not just the themes! And of course, the therimen was also used in the theme to "Lost in Space", as well! Thank's, W.Duffy Woodruff
would also be cool to hear this music interpreted by folks like Todd Rundgren, Danny Elfman, et al....i just wonder if the masters to those recording sessions of the original music even exist(for some reason, HB didn't usually keep hold of stuff like that)...
Family Guy.

This has got to be the most frightening coincidence of my life.
I was just watching an episode of Family Guy that had these guys on it, and I was wondering, what the heck are those guys making fun of.
Now.... I just so HAPPEN to bump into this, and see the pillowy looking guy and the triceratops with firing horns.
Freaky. Freaky. Freaky.
Nobody probably cares, but wow. I could have never put the two together, but just walked into the answer by accident.

Watching this I realized that all the sound effects were the same exact ones on the old Johnny Quest lol. Good ol' cheap Hannah Barbera.

zandor must have some serious back problems slinging himself on those vines, who does he think he is captain america.

This was among my favourite cartoons. Althou I couldn't remember their names, I always liked the blob guys the most. What a blast.

Zandor, Tara, and their son Dorno. Igoo, the rock ape, Tundro, the ten legged triceratops, Zok, the laser firing dragon, and Gloop and Gleep, the blob thingies! Maybe that brings back some memories!
Gosh I loved the music soundtrack to this show!

That theme brings back the excitement of 60's Saturday morning TV!

This is the first overture from "The Herculoids" (created by Alex Toth and produced by Hanna-Barbera in 1967), which brings the original theme song, composed and conducted by Ted Nichols.
