Why the fuck did they choose this woman to represent women? Good grief........please please don't think all women are this ignorant and misguided. Some of us actually use our brains
"Listening as a woman." I think she meant to say "moron" there, because if she believes that her sex has any relevance whatsoever to the topic at hand, she is definitely short a few brain cells.
As a woman (hold for applause) and as a female scientist, I think this woman is just rambling and I am a bit upset that she seems to think she speaks for most women.
I think the organizer had called wrong people on this stage to justify If God exist or not? According to me Michael Crimo can give quite a good answer with clear evidence regarding God.
She made perfect sense. She is a PHD in molecular biology, quantum physics, and cosmology combined! SHE IS HANDS DOWN THE SMARTEST PERSON ON THAT STAGE! You all just cant understand her because she is on another level than you guys. She has reached enlightenment. And I am in awe of her beauty and grace. Like a butterfly, she flips and flaps away the logic of sam harris in a never ending dance. She is....THE JEANANATOR!
I just want to be friends with the cat lady. I don't understand what she says, but that doesn't matter when I'm watching her - she's more like a car wreck and you're rubbing necking for a glimpse [of sanity].
Hearing the "cat lady" (LOL) reminded me of a quote by English physicist Paul Dirac:
“In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.”
Democracy is a scientific experiment? No Michael, it's a human experiment. Science is also a human experiment. Backwards thinking by the materialists.
Because "human experiment" doesn't mean anything... of course it is an experiment performed by a human... it sure as hell wasn't performed by an elephant.
Yes it does mean something, something significant actually. It means that it WASN'T performed by nature (elephants or piles of crap or whatever you want to fixate upon), or anything else for that matter, outside the context of human experience.
@circusOFprecision You're making a moot point... of course it isn't an experiment performed by nature... Nature does not perform experiments; in fact, I would go out on a limb here and say that as far as we know... only humans perform experiments... so calling it a human experiment is unnecessary.
It is quite necessary to make my point. The point is that science is a human enterprise, not an objective narrative of reality, although we hope, as much it is possible, that it science is telling us something objective. Human experience is the true narrative of reality, as subjective as it may be.
@circusOFprecision Science is a human enterprise, but at its core, is not affected by bias; namely because it is self-refuting. Human experience is as much of a narative of reality as our perceptions, bias, and conjectures allow. Humans make mistakes and are prone to flawed perception... which can logically affect our perception of our own experiences. There is no way to verify human experience as genuine which seriously dampers its credibility of correctly narrating reality.

"...as opposed to what? Just calling it fuzzy words?" And then his, 'What the fuckity fuck fuck' face while Chopra waffled about the moon at 2:03. Ah, Shermer. My hero. I joined the skeptic society and paid for a subscription to your magazine just for that outburst of, "The moon?!"
She clearly tried to introduce a new point by saying that, trying to pull the conversation in a completely different direction than Deepack's nonsense. Not with much success, though.
That's why I like watching things like the "Beyond Belief" videos more. Because that's geared nit for the general audience, but for their fellow scientists/intelligent and literate atheists. That's what a so called rationalist woukd say, open your mind, there is like a thick wall that cannot penertrate it. Have a look at J Krishnamurti teachings. :)
What Deepak is saying makes perfect obvious sense to a mind that has moved beyond conceptual, linear/dualistic thinking. You see the paradigm 'empirical testing is the only way to understand truth' is just one mental perspective. If one only see from this then of course it won't make sense. But truth can be seen through direct observation called insights. This is a direct seeing without beliefs. Teachings of the Buddha, Zen, Jiddu Krishnamurti and Professor David Bohm are examples of this.

It's funny that the rationalists don't understand what the post-rationalists are saying, so they have to resort to insults inorder to protect their intellectual identities.
The best explanation for our interconnected relationship with the cosmos is the following: we have found DNA in meteorites.. And testing revealed adenine and guanine were present which are the two FUNDAMENTAL components of DNA called nucleobases. Specifically, CM2 meteorites. So, Yes we are connected with our cosmos scientifically, but to say some intelligent-being has done this? Well, you need empirical evidence to push for that Mr. Chopra, and you did not provide that. This life is it.
"I'm listening as a woman"?????? WTF DOES THAT MEAN?!!!! Please re-upload the video with this crazy bitch filtered out. Everything she says is pointless. Deepak is not far behind, but at least his ignorance is slightly entertaining: Micheal's eye-rolling would not be as funny without Depaak's rants.
cat lady is a trip... did they clean up some crazy lady in the bingo hall and give her a dress and a bottle of brandy and told her to show em what you got?
It seems like you could find Jean in a house late at night with a crystal ball on the table in front of her and christmas lights strung up all around. Wat a nut. Deepak, could you really not find somebody to spare with you that has never seen the inside of a mental hospital?
perception of reality, is reality....for that person perceiving it...reality is reality, regardless of whos perceiving it, regardless of what mind thinks it, if there were no minds to think or be aware of reality, reality is still there, facts are facts, regardless of whos perceiving it or contemplating it, you cant change reality as a whole, in the slightest, by your perception of it, your perception can only change
It seems that both sides can agree on quite a few things about god - that god is not a white man in the sky and so on - but Chopra is so defensive. He is either aggressive or passive-aggressive, while the other three are mostly assertive.
first off i haven't heard either side answer the question...second off isn't the question the answer? Wouldn't we know gods future because of our past. "God" evolves with time, certain situations are more predominant then others at any given time.
Deepak: "In the absence of a conscious entity the moon remains a radically ambiguous and ceaselessly flowing quantum soup." Boy, this guy is the embodiment of a comedian/idiot duality.
At any point do they talk about "good" and "evil" ? If there is no evil then there is no good. God is the spirit of goodness. The details of god can't be known because we are finite beings and god is infinite. Finite beings can't comprehend the infinite. If there is no "evil" then Hitler and his ideas are just as valid as anyone's.
arrogance would taking the scientific methodology as a philosophy rather then simply a methodology, at least offhand.

Sam is hilarious I love how he just tares Deepak apart!

As I woman, I fucking hate it when other women try to make a point by starting with "as a woman."

first off i haven't heard either side answer the question...second off isn't the question the answer? Wouldn't we know gods future because of our past. "God" evolves with time, certain situations are more predominant then others at any given time.

@jscottupton You speak with as much woo-woo as Chopra himself. Good job.

the reason her "im listening as a woman" line got some applause was because its the only meaningful thing she's said!
