How do you stop it from lagging yo computer?

I'm pretty sure it's entirely random. I usually don't touch him yet still get S Tanks almost every time I go through the level, and have managed to not get one by touching him.

Protoman seems to only give you the S-Tank, if you directly touch him, before he throws his present.
