He did steer, this is massive understeer caused by taking a corner at high speed whilst under heavy braking. He went in too hot, locked the wheels up and turned in. When the front wheels are braking hard you cannot turn.

@nerddna Naw, he realized that he couldn't make the turn. Going straight into the field caused less damage than if he had tried to steer right, in which case he would've crashed into the tree.

Braking is a force and so is cornering, you cannot do both at the same time.

It doesn't matter if you're driving your grandmas Ford Fiesta or Lewis hamiltons F1 car and it doesn't matter if it's your grandma or Lewis hamilton behind the wheel, you cannot corner at speed and slow down at the same time. Hard braking+hard cornering=fail. It's that simple.

well this BMW never was good enough for rallying anyway...tarmac or gravel.... and the driver just carried way too much speed into the corner anyway. If he had turned his steering wheel he'd have oversteered into the tree and killed his co-driver. wise choice to go farming when he realised he could never make it round at such speeds.

The e30 M3 was competitive for sure. They focused more on DTM with them but it wasn't because they weren't good enough. Check out the "PATRICK SNIJERS BMW M3 1988" posting on here. At around 2 minutes, the commentator says that he is leading the World Rally Championship. It's a fantastic post so make sure ya see it. =)  Driving like that is wild to watch.
