I just worry about having to wait a week or even a month to be get seen by my doctor. If I have something seriously wrong I want to see my doctor the same day & get taken care of.If everyone has health care then doctors offices will be overloaded. If the free health care people had certain offices that only they can go to,then that would be fine.As long as they're not in my way when my child is ill and needs attention right away. Also If a junky is sick from using dirty needles.I should pay for it?
You have to understand the fact that, even here in the UK you'll have Leeches and well Sometimes Illegal and sometimes legal Immigrants that think it's all right to get Free health care and not contribute to society others, have no choice, they came to this country to have a better life and fell ill.
Apart from that let's just face it that politicians will let us down over, and over again. Obama is a Novelty, even my black friends agrees on that fact, only elected because the colour of his skin
you can't even be taken seriously in the health care debate if you absolutely refuse to acknowledge the real and valid complaint which people have with it. why should *I* be forced to pay for *YOUR* health care? what if you are just a leech on society who has never done shit, neglect your kids, smoke weed all day, and i'm busting my ass at a job i hate but still go to every day? rich ass michael moore should pay all his money to pay for that shit since he loves you so much. (won't happen)
michael moore (part of the "1%", btw) is in no fucking position to talk as a representative of americans at large. he is a FAT fucking idiot. proof that he is completely dishonest is in his answer to this question- he refuses to mention the REAL reason why most people oppose socialized health care: why should someone who works for a living to support their families, pay for millions of people's health care who sit around on their fucking couches popping/sniffing pills all day?
what up man? this is Sergio from So-Cal,..Im wondering,..how is your healthcare in the UK? I have worked since I was 18 and I have had health care insurance for maybe a total of 3 years in my adult life,...
Did a Great thing by electing Obama? My fucking ass! I'm white, yeah, but every single black man I'm friends with (Over 200) Say Obama is a fucking retard and they're not voting for him again. Obama sent this country into a Massive ammount of Debt. More Debt than Bush did. Yes he brought the soldiers back and shit. Wait till we get hit again by the Camel Fuckers. Fuckin hell people wake the fuck up.
@MrSatansDemon You have over 200 black friends, really? Facebook doesn't count. Also side note you have got your facts wrong, probably been watching too much fox news.
Oh please. The reason "Universal Healthcare" won't work in America is because Americans are gluttons! You don't see Soccer moms in England toting around their 7 year old in Suburbans. We are the undisputed champions of excess, and if you give it to us for free we'll want more, bigger, better, and we sure as heck won't want to stand in line for it!
I cannot understand why the USA is the only country in the Anglosphere that does not have Universal Health Care
If the Health System was removed from legislation in Canada, UK, Australia etc...a Revolution would take place. I'm not a fan of Michael Moore but somebody has to critique the system
Priority's are backwards, War in Iraq and Afghanistan is conservatively estimated at $2.7 Trillion by 2017 according to the Congressional Budget Office. That amount of money could of gone to Health Care.
@jewsmakingmovies I'm talking about the fact that he is says that a lot of angry white guys don't want to help out "people of color.". There are hoards of people that can't afford health care in America and it has nothing to do with racism. It has do with the fact that health care is so expensive and if you don't have that great job with a great benefits plan you can't afford it.
@jewsmakingmovies also, He is trying to represent the masses and turning this into a racial issue which distracts from the real issue. These are the types of baseless arguments that are keeping us from solving social inadequacies in our country. I could buy this argument that you say is "just facts" if every white person had health care but the sad truth is that if my white mother gets cancer tomorrow she will most likely die due to the fact that she can't afford health care.
Its a really evil thought but I just cant help it...maybe welderkid123 will have an accident, lose the use of his legs and live on benefits/charity for ht erest of his life and see how it is? I love our National Health Service in the UK, its tremendous that our nation all chips in to help out people less fortunate.(and often themselves later in life!)
@welderkid123 Because if it were you,or your family....I mean are you really that ignorant to think that you are somehow above being poor or unfortunate? I'm speechless. Why don't you at least wait till after the christmas season to say some ridiculous selfish bullshit like that? Vote up?
unfortunately this nation is full of morons like the fellow you are speaking of; they are brainwashed as children to think they are superior to everyone; including minorities in this country especially black and hispanics and just about any other nationality that is not American; they don't care and are tolerated in this society; very hateful indeed, btw how is your healthcare?
@welderkid123 Because in an ideal world, the healthy would help out the handicapped, disabled and needy while they are doing OK. Your comment absolutely stinks of 'me,me,me'
@welderkid123 u dont pay for anybody's health insurance. Period. Not u personally anyways. All u do is hand a percentage of ur money to ur gov't and they do the rest for you :]
an ignorant, fat piece of shit, who IS one of the one percent, who made his money from the tax breaks given him, who used the student loan program etc... fat piece of shit that got his and screw us all, nice. Moore is a fat piece of shit on society in whole.
yo! FUCK MICHAEL MOORE FUCK OBAMA FUCK THAT HEALTH CARE BILL. these fucking socialists made shit worse. what happens to people is what they deserve. if u think its not fair because your poor deal with it. republicans arent about keeping the rich richer, im poor as shit and want this obama fucker ouuta here. jesus! fukin some pop culture icon says "obama yay! ^^" then the whole fukin country votes obama. >:( ... fukin communists, FUCK U LEFT WING FAGS!
@MPreaper94 Wow, you arrogant fool. It's not like its Obamas fault that America is in REAL deep shit right now. Thats the work from the past years, but Obama had bad luck to selected and try to solve this mess. Im Swedish, and we have universal health care, and lets see. Wich country is in the deepest shit right now? Well, its not Sweden.
If all just could agreed on higher taxes you would have a more functional and human society. Is it that horrible to help another in need?
@Marzet92 so go fukin watch documentaries of sweden wow good lob someone from another country who thinks they know whats goin on in this ine because hes themedias puppet kust like all the other pricks who voted for obama, and if ur implyin that my country will be in deep shit, ur right . as long as we got this communist inpower we will be in deep shit,
@Marzet92 It is up to society and its citizens to help those in need, not the government's. The gov't does everything assbackwards. If the government would just get out of the way health care would not be so freaking bloated. 80% of health care cost is bureaucracy. Heck, everything the government touches gets screwed up. GET OUT OF THE WAY!
@Marzet92 the issue isn't higher taxes, it's where that money is going.
for instance (yeah I know it's been refereed to death) but in Canada health care costs LESS per person than usa. yet there is universal health care coverage.
@Marzet92 I'm absolutely baffled by you guys who claim that the state of our economy is not Obama's fault. First of all, he has been the President for three years; in two of which he had his party in control of both houses of congress. Second, before he was president, he was a senator who voted for all of Bush's budgets and spending bills. Third, since he has been president he has continued and even expanded all of the economic policies that Bush was criticized for. So, whose fault IS it?
@Marzet92 I'm an American citizen living in Australia where we have a universal healthcare system I'm thankful for. You do understand however, that creating a subsidized healthcare system in America is not as easy as raising taxes? With the deficit, number of people, and the cut the to private sector. An entire complex system (criminal or justified) will need restructuring.
@MPreaper94 Wow. Eloquent as you are I do believe I will disregard your clearly researched opinion. Good luck with the rest of high school and I would recommend doing a lot of research into writing and the English language in general.
I think part of that mindset that opposes public healthcare is from the days of the Cold War. Being the antithesis of what they perceive the old Soviet Union of being is what they are trying to do. Michael is definitely correct about the race thing. Conservatives of a certain stripe do NOT want to help pay for a system that they think is only for the benefit of minorities. More worldly Conservatives don't want to pay for it, well... because a certain amount of desperation is good right? snark..
Im one of those poor who needs health care. If it wasnt for my medical bills, I could buy a house right now! Tax the big oil companies for once, that would cover every american three times over. . . .
serious, I have been working since I was 16 and have only had healthcare benefits for at most 3 years; 2 of those years I had co-payments of $20.00; thats ridiculous and its easy for the well off to criticize the bill cuz they don't care cuz they are taken care of already; the rich don't care about the middle class nor the poor; this nation is starting to look like communism, where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer; I give Obama his props for working on a flawed system
My opinon is that Socialism will be the evolution of Capitalism because of it's popular appeal to the working class. It might not be today or tommorow but I do hope sooner then later.
My opinon is that Socialism will be the evolution of Capitalism because of it's popular appeal to the working class. It might not be today or tommorow but I do hope sooner then later.
Yes, socialism appeals to the working class. Sure. That dosent mean its a rational system. Im part of the working class myself and can find socialist ideas appealing, but i go back to rationality fairly quickly.
Based on how economy and human nature works, socialism will never ever work.
Also - Any individual in the west could make himself way more succesful if he didnt spend 4 or 6 hours a day on television watching - which is the statistics in the west... or didnt use other excuses.
Some peoples success should not be at the expense of other peoples well being (Well, it always is in a way since there will always be winners and loosers but haha).
Therefor i am a social democrat. Wellfare state combined with the ability to make oneself succesful.
Working class people more often succeed in society here in Nordic countries then in U.S. "The american dream" is totally fake. We have way higher social mobility and also universal healthcare, lower crime rate, class opression etc.
Wow, I agree with you Americans wanting Universal Healthcare but Michael Moore is arrogant and incredibly annoying. I think he gives american liberals a bad name
@jiltedkiller Americans want Universal Healthcare but they also want low taxes and cheep prices, the three don't mix. Universal Healthcare comes at a price, most Americans don't want to be told how to spend their money.
I agree with universal health care but if anyone actually looked at what obamas health care plan was I am so glad it didn't get passed. It was basicaly buy the health care and if you didn't do it you got fined ya thats so helping the poor.
Anyone who says they will vote for Obama after what he has done to this country is obviously a blind moron who cares not for this great nation and would rather see it smashed upon the rocks of political retardation.
Thats the thing I dislike most about Micahel Moore along with his Intellectual Dishonesty about American Capitalism. That he's quick to making things about race when you disagree with President Obama. He doesn't accept the fact that people disagree with him because they don't like his policy's. And I'm someone who voted for Barack Obama and will probably vote for him again.
HE'S A MULTI-MILLIONAIRE WHO GREW UP IN AN AFFLUENT CITY! Who the fuck is this douche to say he understands "poor people"? He owns a townhouse in Manhattan and a million dollar summer home in MI. Fuck off, communist. We don't care about you. I may not have insurance, but I don't whine about it. I just live with it and keep looking for a job that offers it to their employees. What a naive tool. Feel sorry for his children if he has any because they have to put up with his fat white ass.
His town in effect went bankrupt when a big firm left, so mostly everyone he knows have experienced what the rest of the US now are feeling.. so he is actually not a bad choice for understanding the current situation..
Ps. i live in 'socialist norway' and.. trust me, its fine :) You already have socialized police, firefighters, millitary.. why not healthcare?
@adakar Doesn't Norway also have one of the highest tax rates in the nation? We don't want socialized medicine here. It's that simple. We don't want Obama as our President. I didn't vote for him in 2008. No real leadership experience, his wife was only proud to be an American AFTER he began running for President, very questionable background, and he has done nothing to get this nation rolling again. If he were the leader of your nation, you would feel exactly the same way.
You think reinstating the people who fucked up will solve things?
Norway have high taxes in percentage, but our income are far over yours. Meaning that even if the government take 55% (highest it goes) you still have ALOT more spending money.
The US solution how ever is as follows:
Low tax; but they print up new bills making your dollar value less, its a hidden tax. So you pay less % but your currency drops.
@adakar That may work in Norway, but it would never work here. Americans have had the freedom of low taxes burned into their brains for decades. The main attitude here is that you earn things like health coverage, that it is not just given to you or taken care of by the government. If they tried doing that sort of Norwegian formula here, there would be riots in the streets and complete and total anarchy. I understand completely what you are saying, but it would be a very hard sell here.
I think the main problem is the discussion is faith based when in reality its a math question..
The government and the US does not profit from you becoming ill and never working again; the profit of public health care is a huge upside. So public healthcare could increase tax income without raising _your_ tax :)
The 'freedom' of low taxes is somewhat a trap when your currency lose value
Think of this; Your 1 dollar bill is worth less now than when you started reading..
@adakar Yeah, it's pretty bad here in most areas. If they could pass a law to make all insurance companies and hospitals non-profit, it would help tremendously. I think the reason why health care is so pricey here is because there are too many lawyers and too much over-regulation. It's a debate that will continue for a long time here, and there isn't a lot we regular folks can do about it. We have enjoyed low taxes here for a long time, and we as a whole do not want that to change.
that's bullshit, I work my ass of to pay for my insurance. Poor has no color. I'm a Proud American and I'm getting sick and tired of that being thought of as a bad thing.
I disagree with mike. The economy needs to be fixed first. If jobs are available people who want a job can get one and from there buy their own healthcare. I personally dont care about the lazy poor. Basically If the economy is bad and people are out of work how is something as big as universal healthcare going to be financed? Were working backwards.
Michael Moore has no clue what America is, we work for our money and we should keep our money not give it to some idot in the white house who says what we can and can not do with it.
So if I don't want to give away my resources to help others less needy its racism? I could maybe understand calling Americans greedy or selfish, but now racism is the charge? Throw in a George Bush joke and that's policy from the left. Social Security and Medicare are bankrupting our nation. They take up more then 405 of our 2012 budget. They will continue to grow due to demographics. We need to reform our current entitlements and tax code before we embark on creating new ones.
@darklurker33 what about kids born in america on the poverty line. if they get sick what then. are going to say they didn't earn. if they manage to survive sickness their going to have a hell of a time to gain opportunities that the well off have with that mindset. when you were a kid if you got sick, did u pay for it. no you're parents. if they're not well off, then you die.
If we do not fix our defecit spending in the next few years we will ruin our dollar and max out our ability to loan more $. The financial markets are already giving signals that we cannot run up this deficit at this rate. Then there will be more poor children, and more sick children and less dollars to supply them health care.I am not suggesting that we throw the poor to the wolves, only that we balance our spending to our tax revenue. This will require cuts and tax increases
@aussiebushwacker We need to make job opportunities first. If a person doesnt make it with all the opportunities out there then its their own fault and its one less burden on society. Priority should be in creating jobs and stability so people can provide their own healthcare, and that is done by taking money away from government and putting it into the economy and not into money guzzlers such as universal healthcare and wars.
@Mattjblythe111 - If your NOT angry, your either not paying attention or too stupid to know the difference! Michael Moore is a moron who tweaks facts and presents only facts which support his side of any given argument. I ask you, is that responsible reporting??? Is that someone who's opinion is worthy of ears??? I think not!
@lowridinHI I'm not sure what facts Michael Moore put out in this clip. He supports a universal healthcare bill.
He isn't the one that says 1.2 million people in the US declare bankruptcy every year because they can no longer pay their medical bills. The AARP and the US bankruptcy court records support this.
are you kidding me? Michael Moore shouldn't be allowed to talk anymore....rich white people????? trailer parks are full of white people you moron! My family falls under that rich white demographic and I'm not a racist you idiot
I'm "left wing" by most people's standards, but I can see why people don't like Micheal Moore. He's pointing the finger at "angry white guys?" I'm sure he falls into that demographic.
FUCKING MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Michael Moore is an assumptive ass who skews the facts to fit his needs. HE IS AN ASSHOLE, AND ANYONE WHO BELIEVES HIM IS AN ASSHOLE BY ASSOCIATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last Year i was homeless. Then my friends cosigned my loans and gave me a place to stay so i could finish college. Now i am making twice the national average income.
Why on earth should my money go to someone else. i earned it the good old fashioned way. Hard work an sleepless nights.
@spikeyeyerish Jesus, you're disgusting. You're assuming equity where none exists.
Moreover, do you have any understanding of economics? There's only so much capital in the world, you realize that? With you on the top (though, I can tell you, your carrot on a stick's NOTHING compared to that of the guys dangling it) there's got to be someone on the bottom.
Anyway, the issue's not social security; it's healthcare. Keep up, Elmer Fudd.
Michael Moore made the bulk of his $25 million off Capitalism (GOOGLE - celebrity net worth). He disavows Capitalism by saying “Communism has won. Socialism has prevailed” watch?v=SRRe0EFdNpI
.
Michael Moore states that the “Rich should share the wealth” He states that the money of the rich is ours. watch?v=wzfd_sNw2-Y
Americans don't want to be forced to pay for abortions, sex change operations et al - Sure, I get as a Canadian that BASIC healthcare for everyone isn't evil...But we're paying for the most controversial programs on the planet in this country and our opinion isn't being respected. It makes me ashamed to be a Canadian that tax payer funded abortion is the law of the land. I'm moving to America after I save up some more money. I can't take this anymore.
Why doesn't Michael Moore and all those who think that money is bad just fill out the part on their tax forms that allow you to give more money if you choseand give up all but what you need to live for a year.
I'm sure when Michael Moore is sueing the production company of one of his "documentaries" for more profits it's to take care of the poor people.
Healtchcare rates are now going higher because the law mandates that you have to purchase it.
when bill clinton tried to get health care passed wen didn't want it. because it was a bad idea. now obama wants to pass it and we dont want it because we're racist. Thats really dumb and makes no sence, I'll be glad when that nigger is out of office!
Moore can eat shit,my Grandparents both died of cancer, OHIP(Provincial insurance) wouldn't cover the procedures. However I met a man in 2006 during the election and I he had cancer it wasn't Canadian health Insurance keeping him alive it was an American drug company...
@johnathansilveira Moore doesn't deny that drug companies provide a medical service, he's just questioning (as most of the Westen world is) why the CEO's of these company's are allowed to buy a third car and million dollar homes when that money could have saved scores of people with treatable conditions. Why does the American Dream have to involve climbing onto the backs of the poverty stricken?
@KingofKlubs That doesn't make any sense, the CEOs of these drug companies deserve a reward for managing the people and money that goes into creating all the drugs and technology that we have today. I could say you are selfish because you did not persue an degree in finance, accounting and management. Work your way up to the top become a CEO and offer to work for 50k.
Blaming on CEOs and shareholders is dumb. The rest of the world is happy to use these drugs and judge while creating nothing.
@EasyEs Everyone deserves a fair wage, but the CEO's of these companies dont earn a fair wage. The position in steeped in privilege and sloth to such a high degree, they earn millions at the expense of those who suffer. Where does all that money come from? Dliberately high prices and then minimising expenditure. How do these companies minimise expenditure? By denying payouts when people try to claim which directly lead to peoples deaths. Those who bleed money from the vulnerable are criminals.
No prices are high becasue developing new drugs are super expensive and 9-10 fail. The risk is high and the profit margins for new drugs is low as a result. Also the rest of the world buys the drugs after the price came down. Ie denying them to their populationn in order to save money.
Same with insurance, it is a risk pool with low profit margins that needs to be managed. It is managed better then Medicare because they deny coverage to less people.
@EasyEs I understand the concept of insurrance. However, all insurance businesses MUST do everything to get out of paying out. That's how they work. But when that means denying people medical care, such an act is utterly cold and shockingly heartless. People are worth far more dead than they alive. That's a fact these days.
I am so thankful I don't live in America. When I study the politics, the economics, the social values and religious ideas, I can understand why the suicide rate is so high
@KingofKlubs No they don't because then no one will buy insurance with them. Incoming revenue is everybit as important as outgoing. If companies do this maybe more then one or two government approved companies to operate per state would fix it. Governments deny care more often the private companies and that is an established fact. Also suicide rates are higher in the EU then in North America.
From what I see Europeans are entitled childern who only care about what the state gives them.
@EasyEs That's absolute nonsence. People buy it because they have to and are continuously told to. Those who don't have to must constantly live in fear of the day when they develop a horrific injury or deadly disease and they don't have a spare 50k in the bank. The worst part is, having health insurance doesn't buy a gurantee and those who need the most care are deemed "unacceptable financial risks"
In other words, Europeans are just like any other human being only we have a better safty net
@huxleyhuxhuxley This is getting painfull. Companies compete to get your business. Insurance is no differnt. The reason big insurance companies can get away with the small ammount of bad behavior they do is becuase the governments provide them with protection.
Europeans are childern. You act like you have it together beecause the USA kept the USSR from shipping you all off to siberia for five decades, and you spent the money you saved on bad health care and still didn't create any drugs!
@EasyEs Oh wow, are you actually suggesting that the US, a positive babe of a nation, is more evolved than European nations which have been here for the best part of a thousand years?! Are you actually suggesting that the Cold War didn't come into being due to the American desire to rule the world with the atomic bomb? Are you actually suggesting that the socialist ideal of everyone helps everyone else, championed in Europe, is inferior to the American concept of "Sucks to be you, poor people"?!
-If a nation can afford to develop the technology to throw 3 men to the moon and bring them back again from scratch, or maintain the largest military budget in the world, then the same nation can afford to provide it's most vulnerable citizens with dignity and a good quality of life
-The US started the Cold War by anyone's measure, the USSR were not about to stand by and watch a US dominated world take shape
-you really haven't thought that one through have you.
@KingofKlubs There isn't an infinite ammount of resources to go towards the sick. Sorry but there isn't and you have to deal with that fact and the fact that if competent CEOs were not attracted to work in the industry, these companies would have less money attracted through investment and more lost in malinvestment so in the end prices would have to be even higher for fewer drug choices.
This is reality and you can not pass laws or tax your way around it sorry.
@EasyEs Drug costs are kept deliberately high, even though everyone KNOWS that it's a never ending cycle of expense, for as drugs become less effective at fighting disease, so new ones have to be brought in. The thing is, advanced medicine does not have to rely on drug therapy! There is an alternative which is relatively cheap and even solves really nasty stuff like MRSA. Why isn't it used? Because too much money is being made, it'll take a lot of work and it came from the Soviet Union.
@KingofKlubs They are not kept high, the price is based on a return of investment model. Drugs get cheaper over time.
if there is a alternative to the drugs of today and it isn't getting used it is becuase your beloved government is blocking it. Private firms have no ability to block competition with out the government. Oil companies use lots technology and petrophysical science from the USSR, so i doubt your claim stands up.
@EasyEs Are you suggesting that given the choice, a company would rather make $10 for a bottle of pills rather than $500? The prices are kept high because they know they can get away with it! No one is going to stop them because the American culture shy away from government interference and all politicians have their price. Lobbying is extreme! Governments work for their industries, not the other way around.
I am astounded at your loyalty to those that hurt your people, I really am
@huxleyhuxhuxley Does NO ONE IN THE EU UNDERSTAND ECONOMICS! They can not charge 500$ because no one can afford to pay it. Also not every treatment is unique and there are lots of drugs to treat the same condition that compete for the consumer. The consumer and other companies stop them.! In the small number of cases where one company has one drug, it comes down over time because the return on investment has been met..
Then you lazy europeans buy it cheap five years later.
@EasyEs The company doesn't care how the consumer pays, so long as they do. If the patient has to get a massive loan or sell their home, they don't care. Their loyalty is to their shareholders, not the public! Not paying the money isn't an option for many people, as their lives could depend on it. Health care organisations, like banks, aren't interested in social justice, their interested in their profit margins, first and foremost.
@KingofKlubs What are you talking about, you get the care then figure out a way to pay.
Also the banks being interested in social justice is part of the reason why they collapsed in the USA because they handed out huge ammounts of money to people who had no means to repay.
Social justice is such a stupid concept. Profits are more important because they are signals in an economy as how to bring goods and services to people that they want using the least ammount of resources.
@EasyEs So in that case, why does not everyone simply refuse to pay once they receive the service?
The banks handed out sub-prime mortgages to people out of the goodness of their hearts?! Really?! Are you high? I really don't want to be resort to low-brow name calling but... wow. You have to be the first person I have met in the last 10 years who actually claimed that bankers don't care about the money as much as they do people.
To that, I simply stand agog at the heartless nature displyed
@KingofKlubs Re: 1 Wow way to prop up a straw man. I never said they did out of the goodness of their hearts. No they did because they were forced to and provided incentives to. That alone didn't cause the crash. A huge factor was that Fannie and Freddie buught trillions in sub prime securities as directed by the gvt to keep the housing market strong. Providing a huge source of liquidity and huge incentive to deal with these risky assets.
@EasyEs It was not intended to be a straw-man, your statement simply implied that banks gave them out as a charitable urge rather than one of greed. If you truly have an understanding of the banking system as you so claim, yet insist that this system is fair and just to those whom it is supposed to serve than I can scarcely see any hope for you at this point. In the same way, if you actually believe that profit comes before people (as your argument seems to) I am quite frankly horrified
@KingofKlubs 3- I never implied that. I implied that others in the name of social justice forced banks to to act that way.
Profits ahead of people is a meaningless statement. It implies that people are not negitivly effected when a company goes into the black or red. I understand what profits are in an econmoic sense. I understand that companies are not charities and that no one bennifits if we act like they can ignor financial reality to live up to your idea of what fair is.
Profits ahead of people is meant as a statement that attempts to convey the terrifying concept that businesses believe maintaining a good profit margin is of more value than the welfare of a human being, let alone thousands of them.
When banks are allowed to create their own financial reality, basic social justice and fairness for the common man is quickly abandoned due to the fact it's "more expensive than doing nothing". Such a society borders on Hell
@KingofKlubs Companies are not charitites, they are created to create goods and services in society. People don't have to work for them, and they don't have to buy their products. They have no power over you.
"Banks creating their own financial reality" what does that even mean? Banks should lend out money with no concern with getting it back? Do you know anything about finance, about the role intrest rates in coordinating resource alocation over time?
@EasyEs Why can a business not be forced to act charitably by its host nation? Why cannot things be fair rather than laissez-faire? In many cases, people are forced to work for them and trade with them out of necessity. It's a choice of one in many cases. At least they don't have as much power over here as they do over there, thank heavens.
When a bank wants more money, it creates it. They control the playing field and they sport an enormous control over society. It's as plain as day!
@KingofKlubs They can I suppose do that. However when business cease to be created or expand or move assets out of said host nation, then those people who demanded those assets should reap what they sow. Also they should not be surprised when investment does not flow into their nation.
I have many problems with the banking sector today. So we may agree there in part. Look up Thomas E Woods if you would like something close to my oppinion.
@EasyEs However you and I both know that a business can not expect constant and consistent growth. Eventually, the resources needed to support the new bloated form need to be cannibalized from society. Its obviously not a sustainable business model. I would rather a government enforce the responsibilities of large companies than for the people to become so desperate for the service that they have no choice but to take it by force.
@KingofKlubs You just respond to buz words like social justice and profits in an emotional way with out thinking of what they actualy mean. I mean profit is a term to describe the needs of people in society vs the ammount of resources it takes to bring it to them. If one company makes high profits then that is a signal to other comopanies that there things people want, so they move to compete to produce more of those things.
Would you put your money in a bank that lost money every year?
@EasyEs no, profit is the markup a business implements so that they can continue to trade. On the scale of large businesses, it tells other companies that either the product is very cheap to produce, the product is an absolute necessity which can't be boycotted (such as medical aid or petrol etc) or that the product is so complex yet marketed so cleverly that people will buy it regardless of how much they end up paying (bank loans etc)
Justice is concrete and should supersede most rights.
@KingofKlubs Re: 2 No that is not what profit is. Profit the vast vast vast majority of the time is figuring out a way to do something cheaper and better. There are thousands of small companies in oil, medical and investment sector. The highest concentration of market share by big companies is in socialist nations. That is an absolute fact, the government creates huge barriers to entery through the tax code and regulations, and the end result of big companies are protected from competition.
@EasyEs Incorrect, profit isn't automatically about making things better, it's about making them CHEAPER and charging as much as you think you can get away with. Big companies are big because more people use them, therefore, this isn't about competition, it's about whether or not large medical insurance giants treat their customers with dignity and justice every time. It's a moral issue, yet you seem to be saying that in essence, the ends justify the means when it comes to providing a service
@KingofKlubs 2- It may make them cheaper or better, the consumer will decide what meets their needs. I type this on a 500$ lap top. I can afford a much better one but this suites my needs even though I know it isn't as good.
Insurance companies can never be perfect. Neither can governments.I also notice how you never enter personal responsibility into the argument. Is it moral to live a life of high risk, knowing the cost will be picked up by others leaving them with less?
@EasyEs I type this on a laptop I payed for via government help, I cannot afford a better one for I struggle to buy the basics. However, I receive financial aid from the government to meet my day to day costs, I rely on govt spending to meet my medical needs. My family is supported by govt legislation on the minimum wage. If I have a problem in my life, whether it be emotional or physical, I can contact someone employed by my govt who can help me with my problem. We all pay for it together.
@KingofKlubs 3- You don't want a job, you are happy just living your life as you see fit, in propetual adolecance. i don't think for a second your medical needs provent you from having a career.
Perhaps if you lived in nation that didn't make life difficult for business people there would be a job out there that you actualy want..or you could start your own business. I was 25 when I started mine..
@EasyEs I would love to work for a decent wage (or even a semi-decent wage) were the jobs available. However my being overqualified for practically everything I apply for complicates matters. However, while I look, at least I won't starve thanks to the welfare state. At the very least, it provides peace of mind, as a safety net should.
It's a very depressing nation that thinks paying anyone under $10/hour is acceptable
(FYI: my own business fell through, no ones fault, really)
@KingofKlubs I suspect your business would have been okay had the business enviroment in the UK been friendly.
I am Canadian for one btw. Also 10$ is not a bad wage in a society with cheap goods and services if you are just starting out.
If you want a high paying job, move to Western Canada where I live.
Seriously PM me your CV..Take out your name etc and I will tell you what kind of work you can expect to get out here, and if you want give you contacts.
@EasyEs It's surprising how a simple proper noun can transform our opinion on something/someone :)
Ultimately, a society needs to decide whether to use its means to protect the poor or reward the rich. With humans not knowing what the future may hold, is it not better to play it safe and build a welfare state to protect the vulnerable, for one day we may find ourselves in need of a safety net.
@EasyEs As far as your question goes, banks do not require people putting money into it, banks need people to borrow money from it continuously. The money I have does not exist in real terms (nor does yours) so technically, I have no money to put in the bank, nor will I ever have any to put in the bank throughout my entire working life. I could spend millions over the years yet never own a penny. Nor will you. That isn't the point of the banking system
@KingofKlubs Re:3 I know how fractional reserve banking works. I was trying to make a point. You wouldn't invest you money in a company that had losses every year.
This idea that you are going to create this utiopia and a new man who isn't motivated by self intrest is horrific. Jesus warned about thinking we could create a new man and reach for a perfect world, rationalizing our covetousness, and thinking we could shrug off our responsibilities to the poor and pass them along to society.
@EasyEs ah, if you look back through past responses, I have never stated that a utopia needs to be created. Western society is undoubtedly broken, and cannot be fixed. Nor can a new society model be created because there is too much to gain from the old, broken model. There is nothing wrong with self-interest, the issue is that one should love other people as they love themselves.
Please dont pull Jesus into this argument, for not only are your statements attributed to him wrong, you don't care
@KingofKlubs- 1-I agree society needs to be fixed but not in the way I suspect you think. You might not say this out right but you want a society that seeks to change the heart of man. I am sorry but I am suspect of anyone who makes then claim.
I am very carefull about what I attibute to Jesus. Whatever Jesus meant by his warnings to the rich, He never authorized the poor to commit robbery, via government or in person. Nor did he repeal the 8th and 10th Commandments.
@EasyEs Society cannot be fixed with anything less than World War 3. I agree whole heartedly that mankind needs to grow out of it's infancy, and progress to that end is being made in Europe currently.
If you're going to say something as foolish as that, then I suspect you haven't been paying close enough attention to your Bible. 1) The poor do not violently take money from the government. 2) While he did not repeal them, Jesus made clear the 2nd most important commandment: Leviticus 19:18b

Apart from that let's just face it that politicians will let us down over, and over again. Obama is a Novelty, even my black friends agrees on that fact, only elected because the colour of his skin

michael moore (part of the "1%", btw) is in no fucking position to talk as a representative of americans at large. he is a FAT fucking idiot. proof that he is completely dishonest is in his answer to this question- he refuses to mention the REAL reason why most people oppose socialized health care: why should someone who works for a living to support their families, pay for millions of people's health care who sit around on their fucking couches popping/sniffing pills all day?

Priority's are backwards, War in Iraq and Afghanistan is conservatively estimated at $2.7 Trillion by 2017 according to the Congressional Budget Office. That amount of money could of gone to Health Care.

@jewsmakingmovies I'm talking about the fact that he is says that a lot of angry white guys don't want to help out "people of color.". There are hoards of people that can't afford health care in America and it has nothing to do with racism. It has do with the fact that health care is so expensive and if you don't have that great job with a great benefits plan you can't afford it.
wakeup32068 2 months ago
@jewsmakingmovies also, He is trying to represent the masses and turning this into a racial issue which distracts from the real issue. These are the types of baseless arguments that are keeping us from solving social inadequacies in our country. @Marzet92 the issue isn't higher taxes, it's where that money is going.
for instance (yeah I know it's been refereed to death) but in Canada health care costs LESS per person than usa. yet there is universal health care coverage.
sausagenmuff 3 months ago
@Marzet92 I'm absolutely baffled by you guys who claim that the state of our economy is not Obama's fault. First of all, he has been the President for three years; in two of which he had his party in control of both houses of congress. Second, before he was president, he was a senator who voted for all of Bush's budgets and spending bills. Third, since he has been president he has continued and even expanded all of the economic policies that Bush was criticized for. So, whose fault IS it?
Firesprink72 3 months ago
@Marzet92 I'm an American citizen living in Australia where we have a universal healthcare system I'm thankful for. You do understand however, that creating a subsidized healthcare system in America is not as easy as raising taxes? With the deficit, number of people, and the cut the to private sector. An entire complex system (criminal or justified) will need restructuring.

More worldly Conservatives don't want to pay for it, well... because a certain amount of desperation is good right? snark..

336kgf 7 months ago
@336kgf
Minimum wage here are over 20usd/hour :)
Failsafe is not a bad thing
adakar 7 months ago
@adakar That may work in Norway, but it would never work here. Americans have had the freedom of low taxes burned into their brains for decades. The main attitude here is that you earn things like health coverage, that it is not just given to you or taken care of by the government. If they tried doing that sort of Norwegian formula here, there would be riots in the streets and complete and total anarchy. I understand completely what you are saying, but it would be a very hard sell here.
336kgf 7 months ago
@336kgf
Think of this; Your 1 dollar bill is worth less now than when you started reading..
adakar 7 months ago
@adakar Yeah, it's pretty bad here in most areas. If they could pass a law to make all insurance companies and hospitals non-profit, it would help tremendously. I think the reason why health care is so pricey here is because there are too many lawyers and too much over-regulation. It's a debate that will continue for a long time here, and there isn't a lot we regular folks can do about it. We have enjoyed low taxes here for a long time, and we as a whole do not want that to change.

They will continue to grow due to demographics. We need to reform our current entitlements and tax code before we embark on creating new ones.

@aussiebushwacker
This will require cuts and tax increases
darklurker33 9 months ago
@aussiebushwacker We need to make job opportunities first. If a person doesnt make it with all the opportunities out there then its their own fault and its one less burden on society. Priority should be in creating jobs and stability so people can provide their own healthcare, and that is done by taking money away from government and putting it into the economy and not into money guzzlers such as universal healthcare and wars.

He isn't the one that says 1.2 million people in the US declare bankruptcy every year because they can no longer pay their medical bills. The AARP and the US bankruptcy court records support this.

Moore can eat shit,my Grandparents both died of cancer, OHIP(Provincial insurance) wouldn't cover the procedures. However I met a man in 2006 during the election and I he had cancer it wasn't Canadian health Insurance keeping him alive it was an American drug company...
johnathansilveira 1 year ago
@johnathansilveira Moore doesn't deny that drug companies provide a medical service, he's just questioning (as most of the Westen world is) why the CEO's of these company's are allowed to buy a third car and million dollar homes when that money could have saved scores of people with treatable conditions. Why does the American Dream have to involve climbing onto the backs of the poverty stricken?
KingofKlubs 1 year ago
@KingofKlubs That doesn't make any sense, the CEOs of these drug companies deserve a reward for managing the people and money that goes into creating all the drugs and technology that we have today. I could say you are selfish because you did not persue an degree in finance, accounting and management. Work your way up to the top become a CEO and offer to work for 50k.
Blaming on CEOs and shareholders is dumb. The rest of the world is happy to use these drugs and judge while creating nothing.
EasyEs 1 year ago
@EasyEs Everyone deserves a fair wage, but the CEO's of these companies dont earn a fair wage. The position in steeped in privilege and sloth to such a high degree, they earn millions at the expense of those who suffer. Where does all that money come from? Dliberately high prices and then minimising expenditure. How do these companies minimise expenditure? By denying payouts when people try to claim which directly lead to peoples deaths. Those who bleed money from the vulnerable are criminals.
KingofKlubs 1 year ago
@KingofKlubs-And who decides a fair wage?
No prices are high becasue developing new drugs are super expensive and 9-10 fail. The risk is high and the profit margins for new drugs is low as a result. Also the rest of the world buys the drugs after the price came down. Ie denying them to their populationn in order to save money.
Same with insurance, it is a risk pool with low profit margins that needs to be managed. It is managed better then Medicare because they deny coverage to less people.
EasyEs 1 year ago
@EasyEs I understand the concept of insurrance. However, all insurance businesses MUST do everything to get out of paying out. That's how they work. But when that means denying people medical care, such an act is utterly cold and shockingly heartless. People are worth far more dead than they alive. That's a fact these days.
I am so thankful I don't live in America. When I study the politics, the economics, the social values and religious ideas, I can understand why the suicide rate is so high
KingofKlubs 1 year ago
@KingofKlubs No they don't because then no one will buy insurance with them. Incoming revenue is everybit as important as outgoing. If companies do this maybe more then one or two government approved companies to operate per state would fix it. Governments deny care more often the private companies and that is an established fact. Also suicide rates are higher in the EU then in North America.
From what I see Europeans are entitled childern who only care about what the state gives them.
EasyEs 1 year ago
@EasyEs That's absolute nonsence. People buy it because they have to and are continuously told to. Those who don't have to must constantly live in fear of the day when they develop a horrific injury or deadly disease and they don't have a spare 50k in the bank. The worst part is, having health insurance doesn't buy a gurantee and those who need the most care are deemed "unacceptable financial risks"
In other words, Europeans are just like any other human being only we have a better safty net
huxleyhuxhuxley 1 year ago
@huxleyhuxhuxley This is getting painfull. Companies compete to get your business. Insurance is no differnt. The reason big insurance companies can get away with the small ammount of bad behavior they do is becuase the governments provide them with protection.
Europeans are childern. You act like you have it together beecause the USA kept the USSR from shipping you all off to siberia for five decades, and you spent the money you saved on bad health care and still didn't create any drugs!
EasyEs 1 year ago
@EasyEs Oh wow, are you actually suggesting that the US, a positive babe of a nation, is more evolved than European nations which have been here for the best part of a thousand years?! Are you actually suggesting that the Cold War didn't come into being due to the American desire to rule the world with the atomic bomb? Are you actually suggesting that the socialist ideal of everyone helps everyone else, championed in Europe, is inferior to the American concept of "Sucks to be you, poor people"?!
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs
-Yes, the evolution into a welfare state with a political economy is unsustainable and not a positive step
-The USA had no desire to ruel the world. They did have a dtesire not to allow the USSR to extend around the world.
-Yes because socialism doesn't help the poor at all. The poor in the USA have a very high standard of living vs the poor in the EU.
The American concept is of individual liberty and responsibility and leads to a better society. Despite the USA morphing into the EU
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs
Final statement = ROFL
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs There isn't an infinite ammount of resources to go towards the sick. Sorry but there isn't and you have to deal with that fact and the fact that if competent CEOs were not attracted to work in the industry, these companies would have less money attracted through investment and more lost in malinvestment so in the end prices would have to be even higher for fewer drug choices.
This is reality and you can not pass laws or tax your way around it sorry.
EasyEs 1 year ago
@EasyEs Drug costs are kept deliberately high, even though everyone KNOWS that it's a never ending cycle of expense, for as drugs become less effective at fighting disease, so new ones have to be brought in. The thing is, advanced medicine does not have to rely on drug therapy! There is an alternative which is relatively cheap and even solves really nasty stuff like MRSA. Why isn't it used? Because too much money is being made, it'll take a lot of work and it came from the Soviet Union.
KingofKlubs 1 year ago
@KingofKlubs They are not kept high, the price is based on a return of investment model. Drugs get cheaper over time.
if there is a alternative to the drugs of today and it isn't getting used it is becuase your beloved government is blocking it. Private firms have no ability to block competition with out the government. Oil companies use lots technology and petrophysical science from the USSR, so i doubt your claim stands up.
EasyEs 1 year ago
@EasyEs Are you suggesting that given the choice, a company would rather make $10 for a bottle of pills rather than $500? The prices are kept high because they know they can get away with it! No one is going to stop them because the American culture shy away from government interference and all politicians have their price. Lobbying is extreme! Governments work for their industries, not the other way around.
I am astounded at your loyalty to those that hurt your people, I really am
huxleyhuxhuxley 1 year ago
@huxleyhuxhuxley Does NO ONE IN THE EU UNDERSTAND ECONOMICS! They can not charge 500$ because no one can afford to pay it. Also not every treatment is unique and there are lots of drugs to treat the same condition that compete for the consumer. The consumer and other companies stop them.! In the small number of cases where one company has one drug, it comes down over time because the return on investment has been met..
Then you lazy europeans buy it cheap five years later.
EasyEs 1 year ago
@EasyEs The company doesn't care how the consumer pays, so long as they do. If the patient has to get a massive loan or sell their home, they don't care. Their loyalty is to their shareholders, not the public! Not paying the money isn't an option for many people, as their lives could depend on it. Health care organisations, like banks, aren't interested in social justice, their interested in their profit margins, first and foremost.
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs What are you talking about, you get the care then figure out a way to pay.
Also the banks being interested in social justice is part of the reason why they collapsed in the USA because they handed out huge ammounts of money to people who had no means to repay.
Social justice is such a stupid concept. Profits are more important because they are signals in an economy as how to bring goods and services to people that they want using the least ammount of resources.
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs So in that case, why does not everyone simply refuse to pay once they receive the service?
The banks handed out sub-prime mortgages to people out of the goodness of their hearts?! Really?! Are you high? I really don't want to be resort to low-brow name calling but... wow. You have to be the first person I have met in the last 10 years who actually claimed that bankers don't care about the money as much as they do people.
To that, I simply stand agog at the heartless nature displyed
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs Re: 1 Wow way to prop up a straw man. I never said they did out of the goodness of their hearts. No they did because they were forced to and provided incentives to. That alone didn't cause the crash. A huge factor was that Fannie and Freddie buught trillions in sub prime securities as directed by the gvt to keep the housing market strong. Providing a huge source of liquidity and huge incentive to deal with these risky assets.
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs It was not intended to be a straw-man, your statement simply implied that banks gave them out as a charitable urge rather than one of greed. If you truly have an understanding of the banking system as you so claim, yet insist that this system is fair and just to those whom it is supposed to serve than I can scarcely see any hope for you at this point. In the same way, if you actually believe that profit comes before people (as your argument seems to) I am quite frankly horrified
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs 3- I never implied that. I implied that others in the name of social justice forced banks to to act that way.
Profits ahead of people is a meaningless statement. It implies that people are not negitivly effected when a company goes into the black or red. I understand what profits are in an econmoic sense. I understand that companies are not charities and that no one bennifits if we act like they can ignor financial reality to live up to your idea of what fair is.
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs *shakes his head in incredulity*
Profits ahead of people is meant as a statement that attempts to convey the terrifying concept that businesses believe maintaining a good profit margin is of more value than the welfare of a human being, let alone thousands of them.
When banks are allowed to create their own financial reality, basic social justice and fairness for the common man is quickly abandoned due to the fact it's "more expensive than doing nothing". Such a society borders on Hell
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs Companies are not charitites, they are created to create goods and services in society. People don't have to work for them, and they don't have to buy their products. They have no power over you.
"Banks creating their own financial reality" what does that even mean? Banks should lend out money with no concern with getting it back? Do you know anything about finance, about the role intrest rates in coordinating resource alocation over time?
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs Why can a business not be forced to act charitably by its host nation? Why cannot things be fair rather than laissez-faire? In many cases, people are forced to work for them and trade with them out of necessity. It's a choice of one in many cases. At least they don't have as much power over here as they do over there, thank heavens.
When a bank wants more money, it creates it. They control the playing field and they sport an enormous control over society. It's as plain as day!
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs They can I suppose do that. However when business cease to be created or expand or move assets out of said host nation, then those people who demanded those assets should reap what they sow. Also they should not be surprised when investment does not flow into their nation.
I have many problems with the banking sector today. So we may agree there in part. Look up Thomas E Woods if you would like something close to my oppinion.
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs However you and I both know that a business can not expect constant and consistent growth. Eventually, the resources needed to support the new bloated form need to be cannibalized from society. Its obviously not a sustainable business model. I would rather a government enforce the responsibilities of large companies than for the people to become so desperate for the service that they have no choice but to take it by force.
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs You just respond to buz words like social justice and profits in an emotional way with out thinking of what they actualy mean. I mean profit is a term to describe the needs of people in society vs the ammount of resources it takes to bring it to them. If one company makes high profits then that is a signal to other comopanies that there things people want, so they move to compete to produce more of those things.
Would you put your money in a bank that lost money every year?
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs no, profit is the markup a business implements so that they can continue to trade. On the scale of large businesses, it tells other companies that either the product is very cheap to produce, the product is an absolute necessity which can't be boycotted (such as medical aid or petrol etc) or that the product is so complex yet marketed so cleverly that people will buy it regardless of how much they end up paying (bank loans etc)
Justice is concrete and should supersede most rights.
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs Re: 2 No that is not what profit is. Profit the vast vast vast majority of the time is figuring out a way to do something cheaper and better. There are thousands of small companies in oil, medical and investment sector. The highest concentration of market share by big companies is in socialist nations. That is an absolute fact, the government creates huge barriers to entery through the tax code and regulations, and the end result of big companies are protected from competition.
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs Incorrect, profit isn't automatically about making things better, it's about making them CHEAPER and charging as much as you think you can get away with. Big companies are big because more people use them, therefore, this isn't about competition, it's about whether or not large medical insurance giants treat their customers with dignity and justice every time. It's a moral issue, yet you seem to be saying that in essence, the ends justify the means when it comes to providing a service
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs 2- It may make them cheaper or better, the consumer will decide what meets their needs. I type this on a 500$ lap top. I can afford a much better one but this suites my needs even though I know it isn't as good.
Insurance companies can never be perfect. Neither can governments.I also notice how you never enter personal responsibility into the argument. Is it moral to live a life of high risk, knowing the cost will be picked up by others leaving them with less?
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs I type this on a laptop I payed for via government help, I cannot afford a better one for I struggle to buy the basics. However, I receive financial aid from the government to meet my day to day costs, I rely on govt spending to meet my medical needs. My family is supported by govt legislation on the minimum wage. If I have a problem in my life, whether it be emotional or physical, I can contact someone employed by my govt who can help me with my problem. We all pay for it together.
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs 3- You don't want a job, you are happy just living your life as you see fit, in propetual adolecance. i don't think for a second your medical needs provent you from having a career.
Perhaps if you lived in nation that didn't make life difficult for business people there would be a job out there that you actualy want..or you could start your own business. I was 25 when I started mine..
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs I would love to work for a decent wage (or even a semi-decent wage) were the jobs available. However my being overqualified for practically everything I apply for complicates matters. However, while I look, at least I won't starve thanks to the welfare state. At the very least, it provides peace of mind, as a safety net should.
It's a very depressing nation that thinks paying anyone under $10/hour is acceptable
(FYI: my own business fell through, no ones fault, really)
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs I suspect your business would have been okay had the business enviroment in the UK been friendly.
I am Canadian for one btw. Also 10$ is not a bad wage in a society with cheap goods and services if you are just starting out.
If you want a high paying job, move to Western Canada where I live.
Seriously PM me your CV..Take out your name etc and I will tell you what kind of work you can expect to get out here, and if you want give you contacts.
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs It's surprising how a simple proper noun can transform our opinion on something/someone :)
Ultimately, a society needs to decide whether to use its means to protect the poor or reward the rich. With humans not knowing what the future may hold, is it not better to play it safe and build a welfare state to protect the vulnerable, for one day we may find ourselves in need of a safety net.
KingofKlubs 11 months ago 2
@EasyEs As far as your question goes, banks do not require people putting money into it, banks need people to borrow money from it continuously. The money I have does not exist in real terms (nor does yours) so technically, I have no money to put in the bank, nor will I ever have any to put in the bank throughout my entire working life. I could spend millions over the years yet never own a penny. Nor will you. That isn't the point of the banking system
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs Re:3 I know how fractional reserve banking works. I was trying to make a point. You wouldn't invest you money in a company that had losses every year.
This idea that you are going to create this utiopia and a new man who isn't motivated by self intrest is horrific. Jesus warned about thinking we could create a new man and reach for a perfect world, rationalizing our covetousness, and thinking we could shrug off our responsibilities to the poor and pass them along to society.
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs ah, if you look back through past responses, I have never stated that a utopia needs to be created. Western society is undoubtedly broken, and cannot be fixed. Nor can a new society model be created because there is too much to gain from the old, broken model. There is nothing wrong with self-interest, the issue is that one should love other people as they love themselves.
Please dont pull Jesus into this argument, for not only are your statements attributed to him wrong, you don't care
KingofKlubs 11 months ago
@KingofKlubs- 1-I agree society needs to be fixed but not in the way I suspect you think. You might not say this out right but you want a society that seeks to change the heart of man. I am sorry but I am suspect of anyone who makes then claim.
I am very carefull about what I attibute to Jesus. Whatever Jesus meant by his warnings to the rich, He never authorized the poor to commit robbery, via government or in person. Nor did he repeal the 8th and 10th Commandments.
EasyEs 11 months ago
@EasyEs Society cannot be fixed with anything less than World War 3. I agree whole heartedly that mankind needs to grow out of it's infancy, and progress to that end is being made in Europe currently.
If you're going to say something as foolish as that, then I suspect you haven't been paying close enough attention to your Bible. 1) The poor do not violently take money from the government. 2) While he did not repeal them, Jesus made clear the 2nd most important commandment: Leviticus 19:18b
