This video is an outright lie!! These statements are the work of dissatisfied uber envfiromentalists who make it a way of life to discredit any and all government agencies that don't see it "their way." This video is just a compilation of lies and twisted facts. Completely disregard these malcontents. There may be water problems in the Delta, but this surely isn't it!!
Its amazing that so called environmentalists would try to blame pumps that pump water to farmers that produce the food that we eat rather than deal with the problems that their cities are creating. It would be nice if we could pump some of that sewage into the Hetch Hetchy and give them a taste of their own medicine.
Funny- love it! Clearly a sensationalized spot for tertiary treatment. What the un-named folks here fail to mention is they are the same folks whining about how rates increase. Treatment ain't free folks. And DUH we do have regulations over treatment and discharge. Check out the Delta Facts, Delta Fiction video for the truth... unless of course, you're here for the entertainment. Great job!!!
The best way to achieve this is to pollute the delta, bankrupt the fishing industry, blame that on ag, take their water too, close the beaches, the forests, stop gold mining...and basically take away your rights to any natural resources or your land. This issue is real and it is happening before your very eyes. It's about time this video got made. I am going to send it to everybody, 60 minutes, newspapers, Sean Hannity, MSNBC, etc. I urge you all to do the same! It's time to tell this story!!!
The hypocrisy is amazing. You'd think the ENV's and fishermen would be all over this and for more than 20 years they haven't said a word. In fact it gets real quiet when the subject is raised! Makes me realize the real issue is not the fish. They want humans to populate some where outside of CA so CA can return to its natural state (except for Hetch Hetchy of course). (more...)
Do you really think dumping partially treated sewage is good for fish? What about accidental spills? Why don't environmentalist bring this up? BECAUSE IT'S THEIR SEWAGE!, and attacking bay area cities does nothing to further their cause.
For WasteWaterPerson: "turn on the pumps" in the video is referring to the pumps at the Clifton Court Forebay that pump water from the delta into the California Aqueduct and the Delta Mendota Canal for distribution further south, NOT SOME SORT OF SEWAGE PUMP.
"SRCSD discharges waste water in accordance with State and Federal Standards WHO SAYS STATE AND FEDERAL STANDARDS ARE CORRECT?Have you ever heard of Asbestos? Environmentalist and politicians are claiming that the DELTA SMELT is an indicator fish for the overall health of the delta, and that smelt numbers are, and have been, on the decline because too much water is being transferred south. There are many reasons why the smelt is declining and they are not addressing any other issues.
The video was pointing out that there are many reasons why the delta is unhealthy and NO POLITICIAN OR ENVIRONMENTALIST EVER points out that raw or partially treated sewage is dumped directly into the delta. Rather, they point their finger at farms and municipalities south of the delta because it is easy. They take water from entitled farms and cities south of the delta because it is easier than dealing with problems in their own back yard -- you know that re-election thing.
Classic response from a few government employees -- you have completely missed the intent of the video.
Allow me to enlighten you: The video was suggesting that even under the strict limits the SWRCB has in place that wastewater, NOT THE AMOUNT OF WATER LEAVING THE DELTA, is the cause for the unhealthy nature of the delta. You see, environmentalist and politicians are claiming that cities and farms south of the delta are taking too much water, and because of this, the delta is in poor health.
I do know my facts and I do know what SRCSD is discharging and whether they are in compliance with the state regs - they are. This video is intended to cast dispersions on SRCSD. The allegations made in the video are intended to be inflammatory and do not refer to the regs or the total flows, as this is not intended for those in the know, only those who are interested in building an inlet to send water to So Cal, just downstream from the legal outfall from SRCSD.
If I did not work in the Wastewater industry I would be just as outraged as the next person which leads me to the reason for this missive. Know your facts. ALL dischargers to any environmentally sensitive receiving waters are closely monitored by the state and are under VERY strict limits as to the consituents they are allowed to discharge. Check with your local agency - check with SWRCB, they'll tell you the real facts.
Who are the people in this video? What are their qualifications to discuss technical issues? Where's the data on ammonia in fresh water? Is there data that says pump all you want to So Cal and the fish can live in the mud? The video implies that the discharges shown are from SRCSD - they are not. They are not identified, but are likely storm drains. SRCSD discharges waste water in accordance with state and federal standards. How about So Cal building a desalination plant? Problem solved!
If you want to turn off the sewer pumps now, then don't flush your toilets, send water down your sink, take a shower, etc. Get it--the sewage comes from YOU, where do you expect it to go if you turn off the pumps.
i will not be going to LA

@corrprincess compliance to minimal regulations is not enough.
