  • F-18C Hornet is much better than swedish dipshit:)

  • said before, but it's defenetly not Swiss made. It's SWEDISH SAAB

  • Thanks to the generous Swedish to does not skimp on technology. We love your great fighter jet. Your work is excellent even in the half month they have been invited to show in Malaysia and a few days later, the commander in chief of Burma fly directly to our 7th fleet.

We look forward to get more Gripen NG to replace F5E for our East Wing .

  • Fucking nice air fighter, i love the JAS 39 gripen :DDDD

  • Still cant stop thinking about that this is my work!

    Im flying one of these!!!!!

  • @MrClaria really? in sweden?

  • @TeeBee997 Yes in sweden:)

  • Switzerland has nothing to do with this airplane! (you even spelled switzerland wrong dude)

    So thumbs down from me.

  • This might be the next Mexican air force air craft. I read that Mexico is planing to buy around 24 of them go to Wikipedia, to know more about this air craft.

  • @hajhej i thik sweden and switzerland are cool with each other. but i think we'rent cool with your country.

  • A good plane for poor countrys

  • @pakruy Haha what do u mean by that? Sweden is one of the richest countries in the world. Just see how we couped with the economic crisis..

  • @pakruy Are you retarded?.. Made and produced in Sweden its a fighterplane.. yes there are planes that are more pricey but the JAS gripen is one hell of a plane. And I clicked on your profile and saw that ur looking for the richest countries in the world.. and just to make things clear.. The northern countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland and denmark are all among the richest countries in world. Sweden for example has the HIGHEST standard in the world. Higher then american and the UK. owned.

  • Excellent airplane! Amazing power to weight performance, Very easy and cheap to maintain comparing to the others. And it´s also possible to swap the engine in just one hour if something goes wrong with it. And you don´t need a fotball team of mechanics to do that either..

  • Now chosen by Switzerland as their new AD/MRCA. Good choice!

    tac

  • god bless the Swedes

  • 4:30 - i would not want that view behind my plane

  • @hajhej3 - this aircraft is now officially belong to Switzerland, although, it's true that in that video it is dubbed as Swiss but ain't.

  • wow...who makes these planes..??.. DARTH VADER...

  • @Historystartsnow (Video uploader) You have tagged "swiss" and "Switzerland" in the comment as if this plane is from Switzerland. I can tell you that it most certainly is not. It was developed and produced in SWEDEN. There's a hell of a difference between Sweden and Switzerland. Just sayin'.

  • Why does Sweden even make planes? They never have and never will use them (WW2 as an example, Sweden hid behind Finland the entire time). Why not use that money on social welfare for immigrants who suffer in Sweden or help developing countries?

  • @topilopi123

we are now in third world war against terrorism together With Uncle Sam

and dearest enemy Russia -Swed's donth hate Russia maybee love it to mutch

bye the way every Swed bilioner wouldenth bee it if not good dito

    relation's to Mother Russia

and maybee oficial Sweden not in war seen's Wiena-congress but no miltarie

historical persson would agree beecourse Swedich neutrality alway's offenciv

    in Swedich interest off defence

    sorry dyslektiv Swed-Anglo-Amerikan lingvestik

  • @tjallew what? haha

  • @topilopi123 you stupid cunt. Sweden has been involved in several actions with its fighter planes we have used them in Congo and now recently in Libya, during cold war we use them to defend our borders against us and soviet planes. Swedish built planes suit us the most as they are designed for our specfic needs. Also in ww2, we were sending "volonteer" soldiers to Norway and Finland to fight both Germans and Russians

  • @Kungcocos111 Last time I checked, the country of Sweden was officially Neutral during WW2. I'm not talking about the few who were courageous and helped other countries, but the overall attitude Sweden had towards helping their neighbors was not seen when Russia invaded Finland in 1939. And why would Sweden have to defend themselves during the Cold War when they had Finland acting as a buffer zone from Russia. *Hint To show off and appeal to the West

  • @topilopi123 Nice try redneck we are not gonna fall for that we are not so stupid too attack countries because they killed what 100 american people? Ohh and when you guys tested the nuclear bomb you just had to bomb it on innocent people, And that wasn't enough wasn't it? you just used napalm and burned innocent too. Next time nobody will be your ally you know...

  • The holy trinity of Swedish weapons design:

    Harsh weather capability

    Easy to use and learn

    Low life cycle costs

Perfect for small and medium sized countries that need modern equipment

  • @meanmanturbo

Actually it's also a good option if you have a doctrine about supperiority by numbers.

  • @Hordebrotherhood Why? So that we can retake Finland...?

  • @swertinge07. Why not? I wouldn't mind having a bit larger border.

  • @SoPlEoReD Well, it has been Swedish longer then it was Russian or Finnish... :)

  • not the best but it is a very good light fighter

  • @capespring Light? Compare it with the others...

  • good plane but yes it has many usa parts therefore if a country who america doesn't like, buys this planes and if their is a war and that country needs parts...they be out of luck. that is why many 3rd world country buys russian equipments. but if your a western-friendly nation..why would you not buy this sexy plane?

  • R.I.P F16 and Mig-29 XD

  • the plane is attacking and spawning

  • @holgerhif390 It's a "Fight (dogfight), Recon and Attack (ground)" plane.

  • I like to buy one of this.

  • mmmmm, swedish planes.... ;)

  • ppff people who argues about gripens speed dont know a thing about the aircraft! gripen isnt built for speed, the steering system sacrifices speed for sharper and faster turns rolls loops etc...

  • RBS-15....

  • i love this swedish delta-winged bird

  • the beauty about this plane is it's built for short runways.

  • jas gripen is electronic stealth , but some more stealth devlopment is done on this plane than this aircraft is much better than big patato f 35 , because this aircraft has speed of mach 2 and f35 as 1.6

  • jas gripen is good plane and has good maneuverability but the thing is why it has low speed than older version of gripen

  • @vivek1471990 above mach 2.1 isnt bad?

  • @TheSwekebab many plane goes upto mach 2.25 , if some devlopment in its speed is done than this aircraft will be superior to many delta wing aircrafts

  • @vivek1471990 well planes almost never uses full thrust :P the fuel would only last some minutes

  • WHY ARE PEOPLE COMPARING THE GRIPEN TO THE F-22? F-22 IS A 5TH GENERATION FIGHTER WITH STEALTH AND THE GRIPEN IS 4.5 GEN.

  • @omgmynameislong Not to be a Gripen fanboy, but the "generation" is just a LHM word. The F-35 doesn't even add up to LHM's own 5th generation label. And the Gripen A/B & C/D have both much smaller RCS than any of the American jets in service, apart from the F-35 and the F-22. The Gripen is known for its advanced electronic warfare systems. The Gripen NG (E/F) will have even more advanced electronic warfare systems, much smaller RCS and smaller IR/Heat signature than that of the F-22.

  • @omgmynameislong I'm not saying the Gripen is equal or similar to the F-22 in combat, because it's not. But the Gripen NG will have a small RCS, powerful radar jammers and electronic warfare systems, a great AESA radar which is in the class of the F-22's, and it will have some of the most modern and advanced weapons of modern time (Meteor, IRIS-T etc.). All together it makes for a great BVR and WVR fighter jet which will give even the F-22 a fight to be tempered with.

  • @omgmynameislong stupid american fanboy...

  • @TheSwekebab click on my profile bro, it says i'm from australia. how can you assume i'm from the usa?

  • @omgmynameislong i didnt say u where from the USA i called you a fanboy. a american fanboy is someone who runs araud like USA IS THE BEST BLABLABLA THEY HAVE THE F-22 WITCH IS SO HOT THAT IT HAVES TO BE GOOD OMG!

  • @TheSwekebab me personally, i think the gripen is the best plane in the world. i don't know why you swedes have to go full patriotic and say i'm an american fanboy

also please get better english before abusing someone okay?

    cooooooolies.

  • @omgmynameislong why should i care abaut my english ? ^^

  • @omgmynameislong cooooolies??? that's sounds like something a fag would say while drinking their champagne.

  • @khmerog1 that's good to know mate, cause it's the internet and anything can happen.

  • @omgmynameislong Your english isn't perfect either, so meh. And I know mine isn't either.

  • @omgmynameislong stupid american fanboy... lets start with the radar... the gripens radar is considered to be the best in the world by some the gripen is more manouverble and it dont break down all the time. it takes 4 ppl to take care of a gripen witch is extremly little. the gripen can carry meteor missiles , the best air-air missile in the world and i could go on for ages with this

  • From what I understand the Gripens STOL is 400meters for landing and 500 for takeoff. Gripen is extremely cost efficient in fuel, maintenance and purchase. Land, refuel, rearm, relaunch -10min. Hard to lock on to, even harder to shoot down. And judging from the exercises it has taken part in.. wins a majority of all engagements. And from what I've heard of expert opinions on the F35... dead meat against Gripen.. or any other modern aircraft due to its lousy try-to-do it all design and fragility.

  • I am not sure what the target is at 1:13 but I think its a bit of an overkill with all those rockets.

  • i love this plane!.., if i could bake it cookies and kiss it good night i would.

  • @catnessa9987 O.O

  • Hey, that last bit is in South Africa, isnt it?

  • If you calculate the unit cost and technological standard, its the most efficient fighter in the world.

  • @Fruitjoke True that.

  • @Fruitjoke >> It's due to the fact that it contains american electronics, so Saab didn't have to finance R&D. Less research cost, less price...

  • @Fruitjoke Big mistake is that it is not a twin engine plane plus its engine is NOT made in Sweden !!! It is an american one..... !!!

  • @Spymell It has an upgraded engine that produces more power now.

Also it does not need a twin-engine.

This fighter was designed to have low maintenance and running costs.

It is more than capable to reach 2 mach and do super cruising.

The newer airframe in NG has more payload capacity as well.

  • @Spymell The engine is licensed from a US that is correct but it's heavily modified & upgraded by the Swedish companies SAAB and Volvo Aero, the new "NG" version even more so.

Production is handled by Volvo Aero.

I think there's a disagreement today whether it still should be produced under license or if enough is changed to consider it a design on it's own.

  • As stated before, Jas 39 Gripen, is a Swedish Fighterplane. _Not_ Switserland/switzerland.

Sweden, are located in North Europe.

We are neighbours with Norge, Denmark and Finland.

  • if aircraft were rifle, then the GRIPEN is the modern variant of the AK 47/AK 74 family. Why? its cheap like the Ak; its easy to fly and AK 47/Ak74 is easy to operate; it requires a very low maintenance; it was made much of engineers than artist; and most of all it is accurate and reliable.

  • Wonderul plane. Just sad that it is not PURE swedish-- like the Viggen never was. Both aircraft have/had foreign technologi in.... mainly from the US.

  • @Badger071 sorry but are you stupid?? the gripen is pure swedish made by the saab aero company there is nothing american in this jet..americans could never build anything as good as this plane just look at the F-22 & F-35 they both stink and would easily loos a battle against this jet

  • @BadTim28 is not possible gripen can win a f 22 raptor at all, it depends also on the pilot formation but the thing is that you MEAN that ... If F 22 can cost what gripen cost then probably gripen will win a battle for sure... the reality is that raptor cost 100 million and has more hi tech than gripen does...

  • @chiflinator well if you belive that you are just a naive stupid american..just because it cost more and are more agvanced dont make it better buddy ;) look at the evolution of cars the more advanced they get the more trouble you get and as saab i also a car producer i bet they got an advantage as they have been producing jets longer then nothrop have...so what you say is that just because a porsche cost less then a ferrari it wont be able to beat the ferrari? thats just bullshit and you know it

  • @BadTim28 the gripen is no super jet, it coud not 'easily' take on a f 22 and it woud have problems with a f 35.

i do like the gripen however its cheap and looks amazing.

  • Well it defenitely is more modern than F-15/16/18 so skipping the generation bullshit... Gripen technology wise should fit just between the F15/16/18s And the F22/35. Well se though how well the F35 will do, the F22 was heavily delayed and would guess same for the F35. When it comes to flight characteristics Gripen is among the top if not the best out there, underpowerd thought for strike missions.

But I'm more interested in flight characteristics than the war mission issues.

  • @BadTim28 That is on close range... but I do agree if u have to put something against f22s then it would be the Gripen.

With right tactics the f-22 would have to fight well to fight of the gripen. The difference is tough if Gripen is the agressor, it probably wont handle the f-22 at all. But in opposite situation the f-22 still have an hefty edge with it's stealth tech. But the gripen can be very stealthy too while not being at true stealth plane. F22 as agressor 2 or 3 gripen could handle it.

  • @dbtest117 I doubt that the Gripen could take on an F-22 or F-35, as it would have a huge disadvantage considering that the F-22 has not just true stealth making an extremely hard target, but also thrust vectoring, giving it extreme handling. However, The JAS-39 Gripen is both helluva lot cheaper (considering that a single F-22 costs about 22 million dollars I think.), and providing a perfect stage between the F-15/16/18 and the F-22/35.

  • @klobbson Aye, something I found a bit impressing about the Jas though that its the only plane to ever have had a successfull lock-on on a blackbird :P Not that it would matter much against the F22 since the blackbird wasnt a stealth plane.

  • @pepparmostheelder I belive that was actually the J-37 Viggen, not JAS. Even more impressive.

  • @74santafe That is indeed correct. I am not sure how I could mix the names together considering I knew I was talking about Gripen and not Viggen xD. But yeah, it was the viggen who were the only one at the time to get a lock-on on the SR-71. Must have had some brain lag when I commented.

  • @klobbson The F-22 unit cost is actually 150 million US$ according to wikipedia.

  • @siggesigge its 200 million actually

  • @TheSwekebab Oh, my bad x)

  • at 1:46 what kind of bomb is that?? is it a dispencer for bomblets??

  • @SuperWeng10 yes, I believe it was a Bombkapsel 90 (aka BK-90).

  • Switzerland and Sweden are two different countries, they aren't even neighbours! This plane is Swedish (that means from Sweden), I request that you change the tags.

  • Wonderful pictures and beautiful airplane. It looks quite similar to the typhoon with its delta shaped wings. Go Sweden;-)

  • ive heard its considered to be the best plane in the world

  • @poppoplingonsylt It's not by any stretch of imagination. But it's not a bad multirole fighter.

  • @phlogios yea rigth how come that it won dogfights against eurofighter, f-18, f-16 by 10-1 and was the only division at red flag that didnt get shot down? tell me that and you win

  • That is a beautiful piece of aircraft!

  • 1:30 is epic gotta love FFAR's :D

  • Gun is German.

    Fuel System is French.

And the Airframe is Swedish, British and Sout African :)

there you have it folks! It's not just one or two countrys that's involved in JAS 39 ;)

  • @JinXen1984 ...

  • @JinXen1984 The engine is a Volvo engine built by Volvo Aero, the power system for instruments are designed by a friend of mine so also Swedish ;)

  • @Henky71 Yupp, that's true, but it's built after the same engine as the once that are in the F/A-18 :)

  • @JinXen1984 Its built with a SWEDISH VOLVO engine!

  • @Jensiih You´re Right. ACtually its a b20 Engine in gripen, the same engine as in Volvo 140 !!!!

    AWESOME

  • Radar, EDS, radome, flight control system, system comp, and Servos = Swedish.

Air data computer and Power system = american

The engine is a Swedish built engine but I believe I've read that it's the same as F/A-18s.

Control stick/Throttle lever, Escape system, Environmental Contro system, Telescopic in-flight Refuelling Probe, wheel brakes and brake control system and the Hydraulic system is British

Auxillary Power system is British and American

Audio Managenent System is South African

  • First of all en:wikipedia has a very good article about SAAB 39 Gripen and second, the design is not any hybrid of some EF or anything. The canard wing and some other stuff is an herritage from SAAB 37 Viggen. Viggen was first tested in 1967 and was also a multipurpose task fighter that beat the sh*t out of SR-71 Blackbird, also in the en.wiki article SR-71_Blackbird. It's swedish engineering with some help of the british that's now fitted in to JAS 39.

  • Also looks like an F16 with winglets

  • Looks like a smaller typhoon

  • saab made it . jas is for hunt attack and recon it can drive in 2000 kmh

  • The Gripen is a Multirole Fighter that can do STOL (Short Take-off and Landing) and even do it on roads or highways with 600 - 800m

  • its a pilots dream...becouse it fly extremly well and its very simpel too understand..

  • @hornborgdk jupp its easy to fly i tried the real simulator when i did my military service on F21, the same simulator as the real pilots on Gripen use. it was awesome :D

  • Those foward cannards must make it extremely manuverable, especially with a high AOA.

  • Damn - The RAF should be flying these babies. I believe it has a British jest engine.

  • @JollyRodders

Why should the RAF fly these? They have Typhoons which shit all over the Gripen!

  • @killerdalek in my view the british forces (as in navy pilots) should have these instead of F-35 half the price, european built (british aerospace is involved in the build) and just as good therefore 100 jas39 for the price of 50 35's for the carriers

  • @killerdalek lol the Gripen is better then the Typhoons and its Way Cheaper.... read up before saying anything like that

  • @Mattebubben Yeah, right! One tiddly engine, no supercruise, crap radar and relatively poor weapons capability - sure the Gripen's better - not! You get what you pay for...

  • @killerdalek lol Crap Radar it got the best Computer Systems and Poor Weapons it got the best Weaons its RAdar is way better then anything the Russians have....

  • @killerdalek Poor Weapons it got the same Weapons as the Eurofighter just Look it up...

    Armament

    Jas 39 Gripen * 1× 27 mm Mauser BK-27 cannon 120 rounds * 6× Rb.74 (AIM-9) or Rb 98 (IRIS-T) * 4× Rb.99 (AIM-120) or MICA * 4× Rb.71 (Skyflash) or Meteor * 4× Rb.75 * 2× KEPD.350 * 4× GBU-12 Paveway II laser-guided bomb * 4× rocket pods 13.5 cm rockets * 2× Rbs.15F anti-ship missile * 2× Bk.90 cluster bomb * 8× Mark 82 bombs * 1× ALQ-TLS ECM pod

  • @killerdalek Typhoon

    Guns: 1 × 27 mm Mauser BK-27 cannon with 150 rounds

Hardpoints: Total of 13: 8 × under-wing plus 5 × under-fuselage pylon stations holding up to 7,500 kg Air-to-air missiles: * AIM-9 Sidewinder, AIM-132 ASRAAM, AIM-120 AMRAAM, IRIS-T, and, in the future, MBDA Meteor Air-to-surface missiles: * AGM-84 Harpoon, AGM-88 HARM, ALARM, Storm Shadow (AKA Scalp EG), Brimstone, Taurus KEPD 350, Penguin and in the future AGM Armiger

  • @killerdalek Gripen has "shoot down" the EF twice , so far! (in red-flag exercises)

  • @killerdalek

    Lol my ass off =P

  • What is it dropping at 1:46?

  • Its a plane there fly far better than F-15 and F-16, and it have the Data-link.

Plus most components are from commercial computers, no expensiv stuff like at US planes.

  • As I recall there were one platoon leader, one Group leader and two or three privates. so yes about five people. All 19 or 20 years old. Loading the cannon was the most time consuming task.

  • No one have mentioned it, so I will:

The Gripen utilizes an unstable design, which means that the center of gravity is located aft of the center of lift. I.e. the plane is "tail heavy", which makes it able to turn very sharply. The canards, which are controller by an advanced computer, are responsible for maintaining stability. Without the computer, Gripen wouldn't even be able to get off the ground (well, it probably would, for about 1 second before it crashed).

  • Comment removed

  • @WallesWillerWalla well should be said neither would the Eurofigther or the Rafael

  • I want one of those! :D

  • F-16 ROK

  • The latest model is the Gripen NG (Next Generation). It now has the more powerful GE F414 engine, giving it a 1:1 thrust to weight ratio. New main landing gear retracts into the wings, freeing fuselage space for more fuel. They are hoping to integrate a AESA radar into it, as well.

The Gripen NG is currently in competition in Brazil, India, & Malaysia. No buyers yet.

  • One of my favorits planes! :)

  • me too

  • that desine is is really a hyprid of f16 and the typhoon

  • Yes it`s manufactured by SAAB ( Svenska Aeroplan Aktie Bolaget )

    So I guess it`s Swedish !

    Svenska=Swedish ( in Swedish )

    I just Googled it ! LOL !!

  • Comment removed

  • Excellent!

  • This is a swedish plane not a fucking swiss cheese.

  • Ive worked with the gripen during my military duty. Our role was to refuel and rearm the aircraft as quickly as possible. Our record was about 6-7minutes. That included ca250 30mm rounds, 4-6 missiles and 3-4000litres of fuel. An engine swap takes lessthan40min even out in the field. Ive heard the americans bragged about being able to swap one engine on the f18 in a day

If at war and theres no runways left, almost any strip of asphalt longer than 600 meters automaticly becomes a runway.

  • thanks for the info...

  • Wow thats really good considering the swedish record on turning around a gripen performed by aircraft technicians is 9minutes ;).

  • @thetrolle

Is the rearming etc done with 5 persons? The longest is supposed to be the refueling?

  • You should probably change the "Swiss" and "Switserland" tags in the comment box to "Sweden" and "Swedish" ;)

  • The most beautiful plane in the World.

  • @wellerocks

Probably you did not see SU-27... ;)

  • @egorlov001 Well the Su-27 in all honor, but I really don't think it's that beautiful. It's sexy and cool, but just not that beautiful. I'll even dare to say that the Rafale is a much more beautiful fighter jet than the Flanker.

  • @wellerocks

I think this debate is kind of "Blonde VS Brunette" or "Red vs Blue"- as many opinions as many people.

  • @wellerocks well, it has a purpose, which was to compete against the F-15, hence its large dimensions and design practicality.

  • saab jas gripen 39

  • Yeah! That´s some aircraft to be proud of the most beutiful plane in my opinion!

And I´m glad that we Brits could lend you a hand for the NATO adjustements. the British air force got few or eight Gripen?

  • 1:46 :D its the Kepd350!!

  • Great video great aircraft, fabulous lines very typically Swedish in its appearance. They have a fantastic multi-role machine. I hope our Typhoon lives up to its promise!

  • owS? but why too many j-10 of china had been shot down in spratlys island? i think 3 j-10 now had been shot down in spratlys.

    seens 2004

  • Its different planes with totaly different technology inside. The Plane china has is easy to shot down for almost every other opponent, especially if they meet american planes.

  • Sir i'ts Swedish Engineering!, we're not talking wrist watches here.. ;-)

  • lol

  • @Historystartsnow

    What's the song?

  • @griffon270 LOL HAHA

  • @griffon270 Watches? the Swiss make the watches, Saab makes the Plane! Long before they made cars.

  • The Gripen is a light weight 4:th generation fighter with many advantages. It excels at operational availability, low total price, assymetrical tactics and sustained guerilla defense when used from dispersed bases. It is continously being updated to carry more efficient weapons and systems. It does not posess true stealth and would be at an disadvantage in some situations against some other planes. However, it can hold its own even in scenarios which does not suit its philosophy.

  • Thanks a bunch. I appreciate it

  • i just had to say this its a 4.5 gen hehehe lol ussless info
