Master Chief was the leader, read the books and you can figure out wich spartan was best in wich areas (like Linda-058 was the best sniper), btw as I recall the book Fall of Reach there were about 20-25 active spartans at the attack on Reach, 5 left after the destructoin of Unyielding Hierophant just prior to the assault on Earth, these were: Master Chief Petty Officer Spartan John-117, Linda-058, Will, Fred and Kelly who was abducted by Dr. Halsey the leader of the Spartan project.

Spartan III's are another project, they're aren't as good soldiers as Spartan II's thats why they suffer great casualitys. And as I recall they are only mentiond in "Ghost of Onyx".

Yes they are just as good. They just don't have the same armor. They have better biological upgrades, but they have to go on far more dangerous missions than the Spartan II's, and they are a secret project so no one knows about them except those on Onyx and a select few others.

They where nothing like the ODST. They had Bio augmentations which where superior to the Spartan II's. Think about it this way. 300 of them took out an entire Covenent Fleet. Another group of 300 took out an entire planet's worth of Ship Building Industry. They where facing tremendous numbers and they pulled it off. If ODST could do that we would be winning the war.

Oh and btw, 5 Spartan II's destroyed a covenant Refit and Rearm base called the Unyielding Hierophant from where the covenant were planning to attack Earth, they also took out most ships stationed there and crippled the rest.

The music from 4:33 to 5:30 was from the Band of Brothers Soundtrack. Band of Borthers was about the 101st airborn, Easy Company and their campaign in Europe during WWII. A really great mini series to watch if you have the time.
