I hold my mobile phone a few inches away from my head. Radiation is spreads very quickly, so even half an inch would greatly reduce the amount of radiation that reaches your head.
As for texting, I doubt there's much to be worried about. You're not going to get hand cancer.
I think more people are seriously injured or killed in their automobile while ON A CELL PHONE.

a banana ranks 1.5 on the scale.. on a website i just checked no phones put out more radiation than bananas.
