@GJNCA Yes, but John later said he did regret the meanness of it, and that part of it came from a bit of jealousy over Paul's commercial succes post-Beatles.
Paul McCartney produced the session of this song for Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers, they was artis of Parlaphone. This was edit in august of 1966 and rached the # 8 of british list.
Happy to agree with you all. It took me several years before I could really listen to the Beatles version. Didn't have this one so had to make do with the next best. This is brilliant!
I agree patriot0112, better than the original, and although the beatles mastered the art of the pop song, I think this version has more of a sixties feel.
Great memories of travelling to school football match in the 60s and hearing it on the car radio. I know that Lennon and McCartney wrote it, but I prefer this to the Beatles version.

Sounds like Steve Marriott singing the chorsus! I'm a Beatles obsessive, but I concur with the rest: better than the original.

The 'B' side was "Baby each day". The Rebel Rousers (sans Cliff) recorded "Should I or shouldn't I".
