I know people say Indie means individual label and "mainstream" bands like U2 isn't indie..bla bla.. I think indie is a bit.. more creative? and with a good melody, you know, quality. Or, well it's not just: I love youuuuu, don't leave meeee. and then with this annoying beats and silly pop-ish sound. Indie is music that falls in between pop and rock and some other genres. I might be describing alternative now.. but most indie music eventually end up like alternative once it's a bit famous anyway

@Helcaloth To me, Indie isn't like proper rock. It is a lighter version of it if you get what I mean. Bands like Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend and Kasabian, to me are Indie (Alternative), so I agree with you. I don't think Coldplay (I hated Coldplay before it was cool :) ) and U2 are Indie.

I agree, but when Indie first originated, Indie was individual label, yet now since the first indie bands with individual labels all had a distinctive sound from all the other rock sub-genres at the time and appealed to many people.. When bands wanted to sound like the one's considered as Indie, they aimed for that similar sound. Now with so many Indie bands, they all have such a similar sound.. Indie..kind of evolved to having it's own "sound". You get me?
