Good tutorial. I was wondering from the settings you demonstrated for upload to YouTube, will that particular video files be "Full Screen HD"? Or just "letterbox-widescreen"?
Hey, I wonder if you can set the frame rates to lower, because I want to make a music video using pictures only. The lowest frame it allows is ~23 Fps, but it is still too high for a picture-music video, which makes its size very big.
You did a SUPERB job on this tutorial! Very slow and very great! I am using X4 and I wasn't sure how to start rendering my videos, and WMV works 100% for me so I chose to use that, so I must say thank you for that :) Let's Played's here I come!
Johnboy1, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for doing this slowly so that people like me, that are new to this program, are able to understand everything!! I saw another one that they just assumed we knew everything and was so quick to click things, my friggin' head was spinning!!! Thanks so much!! Cheers from Virginia USA!!
Thanks for this instruction. One question: I know how to create a library (in youre example the one with the 3 pictures) but i don't know how to fill the library with the projects i'm working on. The manual just tells how to create and delete but not how to use.
This is really annoying me! My camera records h.264 and I usually follow your tutorial for rendering, but the audio is crackly in some parts, any ideas?
Thanks man, but i have a HUUUGEEE doubt, in trying to make some videos in HD, so the problem is that when i rendered it, they are in 4:3, how can i make it in 16:9 ?? y really apreciatte your answer
I had forgotten about actually clicking around and adjusting the settings.. I have a Sanyo video camera doing 1080p at 60fps and every video I edited to put text in, I would click to use the current settings and it would change it to 720 at 30fps. Thanks for posting this!! It was very helpful, videos look great
Why wont Corel upload any of my music that I get from Napster? My older songs that I loaded from limewire work fine. Both are MP3's....I cant figure it out. Thanks!
So, the final stage is with MPEG-2? How I do it is "Create Video File", then "MPEG Optomize". It saves it in the hard drive in another folder. If you look at my vids such as the Backyard Landscape, looks real good. I have to convert the HD videos (in MTS
format) over to MPEG-4. I have trouble opening the video filter in the edit. Why I can't click on it? I forgot how I did it before. I still have to get out the "OCC" video.
I followed the instructions to letter but after my video is finished when i play it and go full screen it doent go full screen it remains in a smaller box but in HD.Can you help?
@johnboy1uk Hi mate, i have an unrelated question, hope you dont mind... My effects are all gone out of my video studio pro x2 program. Can you tell me how to get them back? They just arent in there anymore. Trying to figure out how to relink the FX library or something... Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! :)
I want to enquire if it is possible to upscale normal 4:3 into 16:9 HD videos without having the black borders on both left and right sides on Corel VideoStudio Pro X2? Thanks.
Great video. I think you've saved me hours of work. In Movie Maker I used WMV 720 to publish and sent to You Tube and that worked good. Now I.'m learning Pro X3 and your videos will make a big difference on how long it takes to get up to speed.
Thanks for the utorial. I have put my highlight tape on you tube but it is no the quality i had hoped for. I then tried your way which did make a improvement in quality. However when compared to other members of my team who have uploaded there highlights. There 's still seems better. WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD YOU RECOMEND TO UPLOAD FILE TO YOUTUBE? AND HOW?
thanks, I still trying to figure out what is the best file type to upload...is flash/mpeg/wma or something else....my hemet camera shoot video 720x480.
I cannot find out what video format it is saved in....it just says video file.
I would assume that using your method I would have to change the size to 720x480
I think your camera uses AVI, just import into Corel, edit, and upload using the method above but change the frame size to 720x480, it should still work
When i am importing an mpg file (a video from shot with my sony videocamera), it has on it embeded an automatic timer (date and time of the shoting). How can i remove this? Because when i export the video, this thing is still there.
Hi, you will have to disable it in your camera settings, you can't take it off the video in CVS unless you crop the video which will make the video smaller and you may lose some of the action
@johnboy1uk But why this timer does not appear when i am playing the original video with all the common video players (like Windows Media Player or BS Player)? Only in Video Studio i see this timer label. So i dont think it's something that has to do with the video camera. I really dont get it.
I tried this and couldn't get it to work. When I watched it, it was green a pixally. When i finally uploaded it I couldn't get it to fill the entire screen for the video. Help?
@johnboy1uk I used that after, but it didn't fill it entirely. When you make your videos for youtube and the turn out in perfect 16:9 format, do you just what your tutorial says? Like is that what you do for all your videos?
@johnboy1uk My Camera records in Digital Video Format H.264. It's a samsung sc-mx20. The video itself was just over 1 Million KB. When I uploaded using the preset, it had black on all four sides.
@johnboy1uk I tried it and so far it's the closest I've come (intentionally) and The two sides are still dark. However, the quality was somewat blurry and choppy so maybe I should make the quality higher. Maybe 720x405 with 100 quality will work. What do you think?
Try this, custom settings, mpeg4, options, under the general tab, 30 frames, frame based, frame size-720x480, source frame size 16:9, under the compression tab video data rate 4000-mv4sp, let me know how it goes
@johnboy1uk so I tried what you suggested and my video was even closer to what it should be but not quite. I fooled around with some settings and uploaded but sometimes all i got was a frozen image of the video with the jog slider moving. So far, what you suggested was the best it's been, but not yet. There was still black on all sides, just less of it.
Not sure about Cyberlink, I haven't really used this program. Video Studio Pro x3 has better support for online video which must be a great improvement over x2, I'm not sure about anything else as I haven't looked into it yet
I'm very disappointed with the trial version of Corel Video Studio X2... It will not import video from my Canon HV30. I get an error message that says... "Unable to switch to capture mode. Check if your capture driver is working properly"
I can capture the video with Windows Movie Maker, so I know that my computer recognizes the camera. But I've been unable to find a solution for the Corel capturing problem. Do you have any idea what the problem is?
This Tutorial is exactly what i was looking for. Thak you so much ;) But i have another question: If my project is more that 10 Minutes, how can i split it automaticaly while rendering? Or do i need to split it manualy, and if yes, how? Thanx... ;)
Hi, if you look at some of my other tutorials you will find one that shows you how to multi trim your video, it just depends on how you've filmed it, whether you've filmed in one long take or short clips. Use the scissors under the preview window to cut the clip if it is too long
@johnboy1uk Hi... Thanx for your reply. But i doesnt meant to trim the film into multiple clips, but to render into 10 minutes piesec (because of youtube)... In the meanwhile i found it out by myself... Theres an option for that at the bottom of the render dialogbox ;) Keep up the good work with your tutorials... very helpful :)
I appreciated your video. I have tried to use X2 pro during the trial period. I have found it very not very useful. My HD videos are .mp4 files in 1280x720 format. I cannot import any .mp4 files. Customer service will tell you to change the extension to .mov but this does not work at all for 1280x720. I have to give up on Corel X2 Pro. I can use format conversions to convert to .mov or .mwv but this is not what I want for the video. I can't export files in .mp4 1280x720. I give up.
Yes I know! it doesn't support mp4 files at this resolution! If you look at my notes that accompany this tutorial I explain this, Corel should really sort this problem out, sorry I can't help you
Thanks for this tutorial and all your other work Johnboy, it helped me get my first HD clip up onto YouTube. I originally did a 1920 resolution clip that didn't seem to work too well once uploaded. The latest one I've uploaded is 1280x720 and looks ok.
Thanks, it's odd that your 1920 resolution clip didn't work that well considering that they now support that resolution, have you any ideas as to why?
No idea why, it gave me the option on the HD button of 1440x720 (low res) or 1920x18080. That's the first time I've seen selectable HD resolutions on that button, it was like a little popup menu. Video playback would just freeze on the 1920 resolution, regardless of how much of the clip had loaded...
I might try a sample clip at the higher resolution and see what happens, if it doesn't work I'll stick to 720, the quality is still very good with that!
buyI would like to know if there is a restriction to One User. I have 2 computers and would want to put the program on to both. Trying to find this information from Corel is hopeless. I would purchase a boxed version. Also what is the difference bewtween X2 Pro and Ultimate
When I go to the mpg2 under custom and choose frame based, my listings of scene sizes stop well under 1280x720, and my user-specified options are greyed out. I am currently using WMV without problems other than perhaps less video quality. Any thoughts on how to get the other MPG screen sizes?
Yep, that was it. I missed the MPEG2 step, and that made 1280x720 available. The size difference was approximately 2x that of WMV. I will check for any perceptible quality differences. Thanks!
i wouldnt waste my time..it takes too long to render hd files..just prefer wmv the quality is actually still good depends on your camera..if you have crappy cam than it doesnt matter what you do
About HD in this program corel need to do put more options for the users ,i use this program since version 7 is a great program and i believe a gpu accelaration it will be not bad to a newer version or as a plug in for H.264
Hi, Yes I agree, if you look in my notes accompanying this tutorial you will see I have explained this problem, that's why I use a third party encoder
For the people who cant get the presets working they need to download "Windows Media Encoder 9". It fixes the way how WMV looks at HD files and it also fixes the HD presets. The link is posted in the notes for the download. Thanks to MarkTrav1982
so did you save this video as HD 720p WMV? Coz I went to do that and I played back the video and it was square box and lost the quality of the video:S
this was a great tutorial! i don't know if it worked for me yet, lol but, watch for my Amy video, lol and then we shall see but, it wasn't garbled like alot of the tutorials i have watched. so, thanks!
What would you recommend for a fan-made music video where speed and quality are both preferred- preset with WMV or "custom" and mpg? And what size? The same? I want to get my widescreen movie clips to fit the full screen - when I use layers, it works but the main title track it doesn't - Help?
Is it because I'm using frame based? Should I use one of the other 3 offered- and what do they all mean? (lower field, etc) lol -sorry- thanks so much for whatever help you can give! :)
Hi, allways use frame based for YouTube (de-interlace) or you will get a combing effect. This tutorial is realy for HD content I don't think your original content is, is it dvd based? Taken from dvds. When you mean layers do you mean the overlay track?
Thank you so much! It's from my DVD, yes, but I've seen the same movies in music vids- the clips from them- filling entire screen, clear HD look, so I know it can be done. But when I ask the YTers who did it- they have Sony Vegas pro, so any info they give might not work with Corel. I just have to figure out why my widescreen isn't doing it - it should since Corel can customize. And yes- layers as in overlays. My overlays & effects/transitions fill the screen but the main track doesn't.
Hi, are your videos filmed in HD or SD? It could be a number of things, camera, editing, rendering, if you give me more details I might be able to help
just finished looking. dont have. very strange. i think i read somewhere in this post you said WMV and mpeg2 are the same quality. so no need to worry?
the WMV HD 720 preset doesnt work for me. when i use that, it saves the movie into a ridiculously small video size (208x160) strange..... could this be because i'm currently using the trail version?
Hi, when you select create video file try the custom settings, save as type, WMV, in the options under the profile tab see if there is a preset there, if there isn't then you won't be able to save for that preset. Quite a few people have told me they have had this problem and I'm not sure what the solution is
It depends what you want to do with the video, upload to YouTube or playback on your PC? The mpeg2 is about the same quality as WMV, not realy any difference, are you using exactly the same settings as above?
For some reason when I go to save it, it gets part of the way through and then stops and a box pops up that says "Unable to Load Library". It worked a few days ago with a much shorter video...the one I'm trying to load now is only 2 mins long. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for you help..
Good tutorial. I was wondering from the settings you demonstrated for upload to YouTube, will that particular video files be "Full Screen HD"? Or just "letterbox-widescreen"?

TheSassyred22 2 years ago
The tutorial is not for mpeg4. If you follow it properly it should work, I can't make it any clearer
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
When I try to Share the Video, I use the WMV -HD 720 30p
And then When it is done, it says "Unable to Load Library. What does that mean? And is there a remedy for fixing it?
TheSassyred22 2 years ago
Not sure what that error means, try uploading as in the tutorial it might work that way
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
Thanks, but it is not possible to upload in youtube because the file format mismatch. What can I do?
chmorales55 2 years ago
Try using WMV and see if you still get the same problem
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
Thanks! All of your tutorial are very helpful!
btw, if anyone still looking for the song in this clip, it is Margherita from Tom Middleton.

I give up.
jerry1UT 2 years ago
Yes I know! it doesn't support mp4 files at this resolution! If you look at my notes that accompany this tutorial I explain this, Corel should really sort this problem out, sorry I can't help you
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
Thanks for this tutorial and all your other work Johnboy, it helped me get my first HD clip up onto YouTube. I originally did a 1920 resolution clip that didn't seem to work too well once uploaded. The latest one I've uploaded is 1280x720 and looks ok.
gfairs 2 years ago
Thanks, it's odd that your 1920 resolution clip didn't work that well considering that they now support that resolution, have you any ideas as to why?
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
No idea why, it gave me the option on the HD button of 1440x720 (low res) or 1920x18080. That's the first time I've seen selectable HD resolutions on that button, it was like a little popup menu. Video playback would just freeze on the 1920 resolution, regardless of how much of the clip had loaded...
gfairs 2 years ago
I might try a sample clip at the higher resolution and see what happens, if it doesn't work I'll stick to 720, the quality is still very good with that!

I have downloaded a trial Pro x2.but before I
buyI would like to know if there is a restriction to One User. I have 2 computers and would want to put the program on to both. Trying to find this information from Corel is hopeless. I would purchase a boxed version. Also what is the difference bewtween X2 Pro and Ultimate
Can someone help a Lancashire lad? Thanks.
22483511 2 years ago
Hi, not sure about the one user licence, I suppose the Ultimate means it is the top one with all the bells and whistles
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
@johnboy1uk Thanks a lot. We're getting a bit nearer Can anyone add to this ?.
22483511 2 years ago
Are you talking about the aspect ratio of 16:9?

Z3R0BR33Z3 2 years ago
If you look at 3:16 I set it to 10000 kbs which is quite high but I like the quality high, you can lower it for a smaller file size

Thank you for this tutorial !! its was great and very easy to explain !! really we need that. continue

When I go to the mpg2 under custom and choose frame based, my listings of scene sizes stop well under 1280x720, and my user-specified options are greyed out. I am currently using WMV without problems other than perhaps less video quality. Any thoughts on how to get the other MPG screen sizes?
bowulf 2 years ago
Make sure you follow the tutorial closely, have a look at 3:01 and make sure you select mpeg2, the settings should be available if you do
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
Yep, that was it. I missed the MPEG2 step, and that made 1280x720 available. The size difference was approximately 2x that of WMV. I will check for any perceptible quality differences. Thanks!
bowulf 2 years ago
thx so much dude this made my quality x10 better

About HD in this program corel need to do put more options for the users ,i use this program since version 7 is a great program and i believe a gpu accelaration it will be not bad to a newer version or as a plug in for H.264

Hi, Yes I agree, if you look in my notes accompanying this tutorial you will see I have explained this problem, that's why I use a third party encoder
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
Windows Media Encoder 9 solved "all" my problems and headaches. If would suggest downloading it. =)
MarkTrav1982 2 years ago
thanks dude, you really helped me today. Am subbing.

Thanks matey, comment appreciated!
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
For the people who cant get the presets working they need to download "Windows Media Encoder 9". It fixes the way how WMV looks at HD files and it also fixes the HD presets. The link is posted in the notes for the download. Thanks to MarkTrav1982

Thanks!
popchris3 2 years ago
@popchris3 Hi friend, yes just use the same frame-rate as your original video, yours will be NTSC 29.97 fps, in PAL land it's 25

johnboy1uk 2 years ago
What would you recommend for a fan-made music video where speed and quality are both preferred- preset with WMV or "custom" and mpg? And what size? The same? I want to get my widescreen movie clips to fit the full screen - when I use layers, it works but the main title track it doesn't - Help?
Is it because I'm using frame based? Should I use one of the other 3 offered- and what do they all mean? (lower field, etc) lol -sorry- thanks so much for whatever help you can give! :)
honeyphan2 2 years ago
Hi, allways use frame based for YouTube (de-interlace) or you will get a combing effect. This tutorial is realy for HD content I don't think your original content is, is it dvd based? Taken from dvds. When you mean layers do you mean the overlay track?
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
Thank you so much! It's from my DVD, yes, but I've seen the same movies in music vids- the clips from them- filling entire screen, clear HD look, so I know it can be done. But when I ask the YTers who did it- they have Sony Vegas pro, so any info they give might not work with Corel. I just have to figure out why my widescreen isn't doing it - it should since Corel can customize. And yes- layers as in overlays. My overlays & effects/transitions fill the screen but the main track doesn't.

Hi, just give me a some time and I'll look into this and try and find a solution to your problem, I'll get back to you soon :)

Are your original videos HD or SD? This is only for HD content
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
just finished looking. dont have. very strange. i think i read somewhere in this post you said WMV and mpeg2 are the same quality. so no need to worry?
MarkTrav1982 2 years ago
After doing various tests and comparisons I would say there isn't much difference between them so I wouldn't worry too much :)
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
awesome vid. thanx for the tip. it worked.
the WMV HD 720 preset doesnt work for me. when i use that, it saves the movie into a ridiculously small video size (208x160) strange..... could this be because i'm currently using the trail version?
MarkTrav1982 2 years ago
Hi, when you select create video file try the custom settings, save as type, WMV, in the options under the profile tab see if there is a preset there, if there isn't then you won't be able to save for that preset. Quite a few people have told me they have had this problem and I'm not sure what the solution is
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
What is the Best Quality you can save a video with in this program?
Windows Media Video 720p seems the best to me.The MPG2 came out in poor quality.
spearmintmonkey 2 years ago
It depends what you want to do with the video, upload to YouTube or playback on your PC? The mpeg2 is about the same quality as WMV, not realy any difference, are you using exactly the same settings as above?
johnboy1uk 2 years ago
Your video helped me a lot. thanks

For some reason when I go to save it, it gets part of the way through and then stops and a box pops up that says "Unable to Load Library". It worked a few days ago with a much shorter video...the one I'm trying to load now is only 2 mins long. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for you help..
