I see the youtube moron posters are out in force again. Listen to Dr. Haskell, not the morons. Cruciferous veggies, incl. spinah, contribute to a sluggish yhtoid, as do chemicals in the food and water.
Eat spinach, drink filtered water, get your protein and your carbos, and you will never need advice for the rest of your life.
Unless you are craving and seeking attention, in which case, by all means, get some advice so that you have someone to talk to. When in fact you don't need that to be healthy. But hey, whatever floats yer fucken boat.
What's up with so many respiratory illnesses, auto-immune related disorders and cancer going out the roof?
More info on Hashimoto's {which btw affects a HUGE percentage of women in the U.S.}
"The cytokines that are produced in the autoimmune attack actually block the thyroid receptor sites from producing normal responses. This means even if you have an adequate amount of thyroid hormone in the blood stream, the hormones cannot bind to your cells and create a normal metabolic response..."
"In the U.S., the number one cause of low thyroid is Hashimoto's Autoimmune Thyroid. Hashimoto's is an autoimmune attack against thyroid cells, meaning your body's immune system is targeting and killing your own thyroid tissue."
"Thyroid replacement hormones are completely ineffective for 90% of woman taking them."
"Yet the question is never really asked, "why did they become hypothyroid?"
What percentage of patients taking thyroid replacement are also placed on anti-depressants? Hmm!
I had total thyroidectomy in febrary 2009 now start to have a problems in difernt thing problem whit the skin, weight gain ,irritability,intolerance to cold,inability to concentrate, now i have 300mcg syntrid i need a alternatives.
Finally, a doctor who care about the patient and is willing to help. It's true that other doctors just want to treat the symptom but don't take the time to find the route of the problem. My doctor ignores me to the point that she rather have her intern see me instead.
Dr. Haskell, I applaud for what your doing here and thank you for bringing us hope.
I had total thyroidectomy 3 month ago for atypical cells found in thyroid. Since then I feel extremely tired and gain about 20 pound feel old (I am 45 feel 100) and miserable all the time. I have been on 200 mcg of syntroid, but now trying to find something else instead to be feel better and lose weight. I have 3 kids plus working... etc I can't let myself down like this. Is it any alternatives, medications or supplements that can help me ???
You sound like a compassionate doctor who has done some thorough research. Your protocol sounds thoughtful and reasonable. I'm thinking I may do this since I don't really believe in thyroid medication after having been on Armour (supposedly the 'best' choice) for over 2 years now. Also, there are some major manufacturing problems with Armour currently and it's a problem obtaining the proper dose until later this Fall - Oct '08.
