I am mexican, but I understand the reasons of the texans farmers to rebel. However, people like Houston and Crocket were not really farmers, they were infiltrated agents whose goal was not even the independence of Texas, but the integration to the USA. They got the whole story. Or as close as they could. You forget that Texas lost that battle. No survivors to tell the story wrong though there were survivors.

@doylie45 Well aprox. 800 men died during less than an hour, and they had only flintlock guns, knifes, swords and stuff, so it was quite intense(and messy) fight... and in the movie, the battle itself lasted about an hour...
but I can truly understand that moviemakers have taken some priviledges on the plot... I mean what is history, It's almost 100% construaling. I won't try to say otherwise, but who can truly prove that Travis was one of the first casualites of Texans?

You do know that there were Mexican Soldiers who talked about seeing David Crockett in line for execution and they wanted Santa Anna to SPARE him? He was that famous. They didn't think Texans were cowardly. They respected them, as the Texans respected the fact that their chance of success was remote. They didn't interview only Texans here. They got the whole story. Or as close as they could. You forget that Texas lost that battle. No survivors to tell the story wrong though there were survivors.
