this band makes me proud to be an aussie............not only that but the band originates about 4 hours from where i live......................missed out on a free gig cause of work, was f''in gutted =( awesome band!!!
if you go to a gig you are there for the fucking great music not stage tricks, thats more like the freakin circus. looks like these guys luv rockin out with the crowd
These guys are bloody amazing. I only just discovered them a few days ago and havent stopped listening to the new cd. And they're aussies. I gotta see them live. These guys could rule the world, an amazing sound.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Not really, watch the vid, they don't rock out, they just stand still and play, no cool light show or stage tricks, they look bored. They play amazing music but look how unactive they are, they need to be as active as KORN, then it was just be a spectacular show.
This song is the only one you want from persona...As amazing as they are the line up changes didn't work out until the most recent album. Can't wait for the next one!!!!
this song fukn pumped back in the day at the Grosvenor Hotel, & Amplifier Bar in Perth..i miss those days of the Vool,Dirty Whittler & the Mighty SUBTRUCK!!!
I disagree. I think it's the most generic part of the song. A pause and then a bland trudgy groove. It's been done a million times. They were good at this time but nothing truly special. Enter Themata and everything changed. One of my favorites. I don't know what happened between albums but I'm glad it did. True originality.
Damn! Karnivool have really gone from a great little back yard band (Drew's mum's back yard was the best place!) to an excellent and fantastic group! Well done guys, you have made it!! Woohoo!! keep up the good work. Luv ya Drew. Btw: Manning Bar - was that the Waterford Tavern or was it the Mount Henry? Cos i live down the road from there and i can't believe i missed them!...or is "Manning" somewhere else?
This video is amazing, I'm so glad these guys finally made it to the states and I was able to see them...as for the tool comparisons...you can't compare the two. They're both amazing for totally separate reasons. The only similarity I can see is the way both bands find new and original ways to manipulate time signatures that makes you just sit back and admire. They're my favorite two bands...no need to argue everyone. Just enjoy the music, everyone has opinions
I think this live version is better than the persona recording kenny's vocals are sublime...cant wait for the livecast dvd. Anyone know when its coming out?
Ur a fucking cunt hole mofo. Go fuck youself with your tool dipshit. they are nothing like tool. you obviously know fuck all about music and you go spouting like that? you will have an army of pissed off aussie rock fans after your blood. cocksucker.
the only similarity between tool and these guys are the interesting timings they use, and the whole pure sounding vocals over the heavy sounding instruments
even if u dont agree with that.. this band does realy seem to appeal to alot of tool fans for some reason
Themata has no sinks, no sins, no sighs. All and every moment is purely brilliant <3 Not to mention an absolutely sublime sound quality for a debut album!
Themata is light years ahead of persona, musically, technically, lyrically. Persona has a very generic nu metal sound to it, it coulda been any band, Themata is where they really branched out and developed their sound. It also has moments that are 10 times heavier than persona. You can't use BE as an analogy, theyre completely different, and yes BE's stuff was better than imago....
I found that the filmclip version of lifelike has a different mix - and I reckon it sounds better (a minute shorter too) - also hearing it live is good, with the cover of part of Wicked Game stuck in the middle.
If you have a poke around... Drew said most of the album was actually written and recorded in the last few months. They wrote like 3 or 4 songs (from memory) in the period proceeding this.
Just because persona is heavier doesn't make it better. Persona may have originally brought in all the early 'vool fans, but if they continued making music along similar lines, despite a large fanbase there would be nothing to separate Karnivool from the many other hard / nu-metal rock acts littering the scene. The intricate guitar and bass work, mind-bending time sigs, incredible drum patterns and epic arrangements present on Themata is what has so far set Karnivool apart from everyone else.
persona shits over themata. although themata is very good, persona is will rat ehigher with the majority of early vool fans. these guys were way heavier before themata. think butterfly effect begins here then butterfly effect imago.
i havnt really listened to anything from the EP except this... but i saw them live & i lost my voice from this song alone.. :P cant wait to see them again
as if. persona is fucking shweet. nice and heavy. i fucking love featherweight. plus yeah ofcause themata would sound better the band spent more time on it
Persona wasn't a bad effort by any means. Fade has always been an awesome song; I also like Da-Reka occasionally. However, it's obvious that upon first listen, Themata completely blew it away. If it weren't for Ian's unique voice, one could be forgiven for not realising the two albums were by the same band. Since Themata, I haven't been able to listen to Persona since with the same opinion.
Someone whose actually listened to the EP Persona may disagree with you... From the 1st time I heard it (March 2001) till now, they're all fucken good!!
1) FADE = Awesome
2) Da-Reka = Awesome (Go Grant!!) Drew did Bass, Drums & Guitar on this song.
3) Headcase = Shithot
4) Featherweight = Shithot. Drew did Drums & Guitar on this song.
5) Some more of the same = I've officailly pooped my pants!!

Scarabs is heavier than anything on persona.
Themata is a more divergent album in terms of sound.
Here's hoping the next one sounds nothing like either of the previous two. \m/ i'm up for something new - and i'm sure they'll do a good job.
And the overall tone of Themata (while exceedingly polished) does not do their live performance justice. I'm sure you'd know that though ;-)
