  • this is more complicated than rugby

  • This sport is worth living for...Baseball stinks

  • @MegaWildside Baseball rules

  • If the guy doesn't have to run, why doesn't he keep blocking until the bowlers arm gets tired?

  • @disneyking81 In the test match format that is exactly what they can do , but a bowler only bowls 6 balls then he has a rest for six ball before he can bowl again.

  • So does the guy just keep hitting until he is out? Or is there a set number of bowls?

  • @NicholasB1224 Different formats of the game , yes the guy can keep hitting till he's out , so he might score 0 , 1, 20 , 50 or even 150 runs before he gets out. The 20/20 & 50 over formats there is a limited # of balls bowled , the batsman remains not out when the max number of balls are bowled in those formats. ( yes guys, before you post I Know there is more to it but that will do for now )

  • still makes no sense...

  • CRICKET IS DA GREATEST EVAH KIDS

  • wow so much equipment to play this sport! surely only the rich could afford such things, whereas third world countries stick to soccer, the simple but no doubt the most beautiful sport!

  • @amr2286 Actually the largest cricket playing countries in the world are from developing nations , some of the poorest in the world have the most people playing cricket. Countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and of course INDIA with 100's of millions of poor people , all love their cricket. They pick up whatever flat piece of wood they can use for a bat , make a ball of twine , or find an old tennis or rubber ball and stack up a few bricks and their playing cricket.

  • How's the run being designated; Does only the striker gained the run or both striker and non-striker get one run even though the non-striker did not bat the ball?

  • @aruzman only the batsmen that hit the ball gets the run on his personal score.

  • @aruzman The person that hits the ball gets credit for the run even though both have to run.

  • I wish they had this in the US

  • @schaumton G'day They do have cricket in the US , with more then 500 cricket clubs across the nation. If you googled cricket club or league in just about any major city you'd find one.

  • @aussiefox I knew there were clubs around. I meant i wish they had it on TV

  • @aussiefox i just got willow. Its awesome! Thanks so much

  • @schaumton G'day , Willow dot tv is a good place , also dish and directV both have it available as a 24 hr cricket channel Direct is only $15 a month.

  • Variety is the spice of life. Play everything you can. I wish sports like cricket and rugby had more of a showing in the U.S. We have enough (too many almost) good athletes to go around.

  • whos the dude in the black hat whits shirt and black pants that just stands there?

  • @lopezbc he is the umpire

  • It looks dangerous if the "pitcher" misses and hits the batter.

Cricket just isnt my cup of tea.

  • I'll try & explain it more clearly:

The Bowler (Team B) bowls 6 balls (This is called an over) to the Batsmen (The striker is the one facing and the non-striker is at the Bowlers end) The Striker must try and score runs.(Running between Two Wickets) IF YOU NEED MORE HELP: MESSAGE ME!

  • Is there ANY strategy at all in this game?

    It looks silly and stupid.

  • It's basically Baseball/softball with wickets instead of bases.

  • @THawkoo ignorance at its finest. if you don't understand the game don't comment on it..you end up looking like an idiot

  • nice dude!!

  • I still dont understand how they say the fina score in cricket and wat the overs mean?

  • google it, i read it on wiki. still hard to understand but its a little clearer.

  • well in the crichet games on playstation...there is USA and Canada!!!! Davidson for Canada has a world record too!!

  • Thank you sooo much for putting these videos up. A month ago I saw Cricket on TV and was like WTF??? And I never found a video that explained it. But I finally found yours. It's really not that complicated, and I think that Americans would LOVE it. I would like to try it sometime. And yes, I love baseball. GO TWINS!

  • to woodamler , your showing your ignorance for all to see, As an Australian living in the US, i've got a 16yr old that has played for the US national Cricket Team , but he also loves baseball & plays whenever he gets the chance , he has explained that baseball has some great things going for it.

I tend to agree. BTW America was not the first country to take up Cricket , however USA & Canada were the first 2 countries to play an international Cricket match in 1844.

  • Americans playing cricket? I never thought i would see the day

  • I think it is hilarious when people debate which sport is better... cricket or baseball... nfl or rugby... it's ridiculous. They are all awesome! I wish I knew enough about each of them to appreciate them all for what they are worth.

  • @mymeditation Yeah really. I'm not exactly sure why people like to have these "Which is Better" contests or debates. I don't mind a good debate, but when it becomes yours is better than mine (and not just in sports, but in all of life, etc) that's when it looses it's debate appeal. While baseball might have roots installed from Cricket it's a different sport with similar aspects.

Cricket is very strategic, but I guess only smart people know that, lol. :D

    Joking...obviously.

  • @mymeditation It's like comparing apples and oranges.

  • Baseball is more complex. We have 4 bases, plus there are stolen bases. Does cricket have walks? Walks add another element to the game, as you can intentionally walk a hitter if you want. There's more strategy in baseball. It's for people who think. Are there double plays in cricket? Sacrifice flies or bunts? Dropped 3rd strikes? Plays at the plate? Tough substitution decisions that a manager has to make?

Idk, but baseball seems to be for smarter people than cricket is.

  • in reply to EddieNeverSleeps, Baseball is a great game, of that there is no doubt , here in these videos of "This is cricket" , we have focused on "uncomplicating Cricket" not delving into all its complexities and strategies. So the focus remains on showing how easy it is to learn and play , and entice people to try it. Cricket & Baseball can stand toe to toe and slug it out as to which is more strategic. For a taste of that , look up the Declaration of an innings & Follow on laws.- Nice Post ENS

  • Oh ok, I see. I guess both have their complexities. I would like to see cricket broadcast here, but I'm sure Bud Selig would do his best to block that

Thank god for youtube, tho. Now we can see sports from all over the world.

  • which game is more prevalent...???

I hope you understand what I mean to say...

    ;p

  • @EddieNeverSleeps Yeah and I also think that Baseball is more 'collective' than Cricket (in the Batting aspect) because in Cricket one batsman can do the WHOLE job for his team. 8O

In Baseball, several batters must work for the team's success.

  • @oopaulorafael only rarely does 1 or a couple of people hit all the runs, usually most of the team bats to get the target.

  • @CFAN123 For example, when a team win by 10 wickets, the other 9 batsmen are useless.

In Baseball, ALL batters work for the team during the match.

Even if there is an alone hero that did a match-winning home-run, the whole team batted during the match.

It's not like Cricket, where the other batsmen simply DON'T bat during the entire game!

Take a look at the 4th QF of the last ICC World Cup. England vs Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka won by 10 wickets. Who played? Only Upul Tharanga and Dilshan!

  • @oopaulorafael yeah I know what your saying but, look at how often that happens and in test cricket particularly, because 50 over cricket is so short, you don't want the last 4-5 guys in the batting order having to score runs anyway, they are the bowlers. The top 6-7 are there to score the runs after that there are the bowlers who generally aren't much at batting anyway most have averages between 7-20 which isn't very good.

  • @CFAN123 No, even in a Test Match.

If the top order batsmen make double or triple centuries, the captain [of the batting team] declares and the innings is over.

So, even in Test match, the other batsmen (middle order and lower order) can be useless. Cricket is definately not a team sport. Baseball is.

  • @oopaulorafael cricket definately is a team sport, Look at how often each team gets bowled out compared to how often they declare only losing a few wickets. Also you are forgetting that it still takes a whole team to field.

  • @CFAN123 I already said this earlier: Cricket is definately not a team sport in the BATTING aspect.

  • @oopaulorafael you really don't know much about cricket obviously. and I'm done arguing with you, since you think you know it all and don't listen.

  • @CFAN123 HAHA ironically I was a cricket lover for approximately 3 and a half years and I know what this shit is

  • I think I'd probably have to play it to get it. 'm sure it's fun, but I doubt it's better than baseball.

  • G'day , Cricket is a great sport , however , baseball is great also. Both sports have their good & bad points. Currently there are over 450 cricket clubs across the USA, One big difference is there is not much recreational baseball in the USA. Instead players have to make do with Softball , which while also a good game , if i want to play baseball , softball is mostly the only option i have. Cricket at a rec level plays by the exact same rules as Internationl Cricket. no dumbing down.

  • I guess...

  • So how does a batsman get "out," and what's the wicket for? They don't really play cricket over here in the U.S. so I'm pretty ignorant of how it works. I've heard it described as "a rubbish sport." lol

  • if they are caught, bowled, hit before wicket, run out...many ways batsman can get out

Its a great sport, much better than baseball ;)

  • im a a canadian, why dont they sprint from 1 end to the other to score more times? they seem to only be jogging ? isnt that how u score? from running one end to the other?

  • lol, why didn't they think of that? Oh yeah, it's because they know it's going to be impossible to score more than 1 run so they take it easy (if they have time). If it's going to be a tight run, or there is a chance of making more than 1, then of course they will run hard. It's all about being smart and not wasting anymore energy than necessary.....remember it's a summer game so it's often played in extreme heat too.

  • but the distance is so short, isnt there a player in world that just runs incredibly fast and sprints like 5 times from one end to the other because TO ME the distance is rly short and they should be able to atleast get 2-3.( again, im canadian and i dont kno shit about cricket, corect if im wrong or saying something stupid)

  • Not a stupid question. 1st thing to remember is there are 2 players who both need to run, so the slower player will usually determine the scoring rate. The other thing is the cricket pitch isn't as short as it may appear, it's 22 yards long.....although the "crease lines" which both batsmen must get part of their body (or bat) over to score a run (or to be safe) are just under 20 yards apart. Yes I have seen players take 5 runs but this is very unusual and mostly due to bad fielding.

  • there is also a big sufficient area this video didnt touch on.. when the striking batsmen hits the ball to the fence its 4 runs whether they run or not.. also if he hits it over the fence he scores 6 runs .. the fieldsmen generally are stopping balls from getting to the fence.. ifnyou cant hit it to the fence keep it away from the fieldsman.. and you can usually pick up 1 or 2 runs..

  • Let's use the obvious baseball comparison. A cricket batsman is a lot less aggressive than a baseball batter, because as long as the cricketer is not out he can keep scoring, where the most runs a baseball batter can be directly responsible for scoring is 4 (himself and 3 baserunners on a grand slam). The cricketer isn't going to risk being put out for 1 or 2 extra runs because staying alive will give him the chance to score a lot more runs in the long run.

  • ok thx.

  • there is cricket in the USA? r u serious?

  • yeh man, colorado has a 6 team league. Also up in new england area there are some teams.

  • do you know any one for baltimore maryland i am 14 when i use to be in india i use to be the best in my area but now i am in usa md so where can i find a place to go and play cricket i am 15

  • sorry dont know about baltimore area, maybe search within local council or something?

  • ITS ONLY THE GREATEST GAME IN THE WORLD!!!! YEAH!!! cuz im from the west indies(no offence to the other games)

  • you said it bro

  • @dollarboy500 No offense taken. I always wanted to know more about cricket because sometime here I'm the USA I get tired to watching baseball. (Pardon my US spelling.)
