Yes, I noticed that too. Any bust that features a beard in this show has to be anachronistic, because the beard, which had been out of fashion in Rome for hundreds of years, wasn't popular until Hadrian, 60 years after Claudius' death! So any bust with a beard is probably of someone post-Claudius.
I cant believe I first saw this excellent series when I was 13! Still compulsive viewing...I read both the books, prompted by this series, and can highly recommend them...Thanks SO MUCH for posting. :)
A little anachronism in the set decoration: at 46:16 a bust of what appears to be Lucius Verus, who isn't even born for another 100 years. Could be another Antonine maybe, but anyway you don't see beards in Imperial portraiture until after Hadrian. Love this series just the same, of course!
Arminius. What a brilliant German Barbarian. Beware the Germans. Its in their DNA. It always takes half the world to put them down. They are SUCH hard work........
For Marius, the great organizer, in circa 100 BC took him only two years of heavy train the shorty non-meat-eater black haired Italian legions to kick ass and put down the dangerous Germans for quite a while. His nephew Julius Caesar would did a recheck on the tudescos and kept them in line for another half a century. Till,Arminius came and did his trick in 9 AD, but the territory was recaptured by Germanicus and Tiberius; and it was Claudius who recovered Augustus´eagles.

though the marriage scene seems funny the emperor should have shouted:
"Anyone who loves them shall be quiet"

You know your family hates you when they laugh at you on your own wedding day, including your own mother! And how tall was his bride? Seven feet?
