I've had 2. Both female. First one was from a rescue. She was very timid and mistreated. And the current one (12 years old) we got as an 8 wk old puppy. Both were incredibly good with children (small children). Niether had/have never bit or snapped at anyone. Even when the younger children (as young as 4) pulled on ears and hair they never seemed to mind. And both were very protective of my step sons (if they were getting yelled at for misbehaving) by barking at us. GREAT dogs.
my brother has a Keeshound that i babysit and i just love him and he loves me he is a great dog very loyal and quite and loving , if i was to want a dog it would be a toss up between a Keeshound and a Golden retriever, its amazing how attatched you get to them .
I have a Kees and he is almost 3. He is wonderful. He has the easiest dog to train because he is so smart, sometimes I think he is too smart. The only thing I have "trouble" with is his licking. He doesn't lick himself its me! He is just so happy to see me all the time he wants to lick me all the time. But other than that he is great. I haven't even had any of the problems some of the other people have had.
@lifeofsari You obviously know nothing about Keeshonden because this dog definitely resembles MY Keeshond. Perhaps you should do some research BEFORE making these kinds of comments?
I adore my Keesie, shes the most awesome dog, sweet, gentle, kind, great with kids, but do LOTS of research so you know for sure that this is the kind of dog that suits your lifestyle. Theyrequire ALOT of grooming, exercise, time and attention. These are COMPANION dogs in every sense of the word. They are loyal and will be your best friend if you put the time into them. They are also Hillarious and goofy and will have you in stitches of laughter. Good Luck!. ..... BTW, Great Clip. :)
Keeshonds are wonderful dogs and they require a great amount of attention, excercise, grooming and lots of love. They work so hard to make their owner happy and proud of them. Please, i cannot express enough, to do the research and make sure you understand the ins and outs of these dogs before getting one. Too many end up in the animal shelters simply out of owner neglect, abuse and just plain stupidity. They are NOT like golden retrievers in that they require specific surroundings to thrive
Looks just like my Keeshond - who is also afraid of thunderstorms, fireworks, cars backfiring, etc. When Coal hears loud noises he lays his ears down and jumps up on us - on our head if possible - and just shivers. A few weeks ago I was going around the house testing smoke alarms and forgot it'd scare him - when I finished I found him in the farthest room, scrunched against the farthest wall. Poor guy!
@mllistener Ours has never had those behaviors but as a pup we took him up on the roof to watch the "pretties" aka fireworks, so he has never been afraid. We had another dog, whose passed, who was terrrified of thunder and the like we didn't want that for him. He loves them now. He chases and barks at the vacuum though. It's hysterical. same thing if we make a buzzing sound thru a papertowel roll, he tucks his tail and runs full speed around the yard. He's so funny.
I have a pure bread male and am looking for another to bread with and make some puppiess! If anyone is up for that, send me an email at kozina@live.ca !! thanks!
Aw! Wow... I miss my keeshond. Panda lived 16 years and she looked a LOT like your guy here. She too was terrified of thudnerstormes and antisocial. Thanks for the video. :]
My dog is about to die. She has a tumor in her stomach. im trying to convince my parents to get a new dog, most likley one like this. any tips i should know about this type?
@Chuck0426 They are very fun dogs to have, very entertaining and loving. The only problems with Bliksem we have had are she is overly scared of thunderstorms and don't really know how to play with other dogs, they hit their heads alot too haha. But they are great dogs to have and are very loving to people :)
@Bliksem205 yeah, my cousin has a keeshond and hes scared of thunderstorms too. there is only one other dogg near my house so i dont think that would be a problem. the head thing, dont know about that haha
@Bliksem205 my keeshond is also afraid of thunderstorms! mine doesnt hit his head at all.... but we did have another keeshond who used to hit his head all the time we found it was because of a brain tumour and we had to put him down :( we only had him for 9 days... my keeshond now is turning 11 years old and still acts like a pup! :)
@Bliksem205 They are puzzle solvers. Everything to them they can't have is just a challenge to be overcome. One big one is they will figure out how to fork jump over invisible fence borders in just a few short weeks. You just always have to keep 1 step ahead.
@Bliksem205 Haha same thing with my dog, prefers people over other dogs and definatly hits his head a lot, but you need to give them a lot of attention or they will be depressed and it is very sad when they are depressed they will develop a loud bark that is annoying and hard to get rid of.
@X7rocks Our loves other animals, except squirrels, which I believe have it out for him as they tease him often and intentionally. Our boy was raised with another dog and two cats and is very gentle with the kitten and loves to play with other dogs. He never goes too far from mom or dad (us) though. Yes they need a LOT of attention.
I have a twelve year old Keeshond that is amazing. They are great family dogs.
They are very smart and social. I would recommend them for people with kids, because they do have endless amounts of energy. But bottom line... amazing breed
@Chuck0426 They do have a flaw, they have a "I'm being slaughtered" bark/scream when left alone. They do bark alot if not corrected early in life. Ours, we found, stopped that screaming once we left him out of the kennel when away from the house. We didn't allow this until he'd been trained and was older not to destroy the house. He doesn't even bark when we come home because they're so smart he knows it's us. But that scream? Wow!!!!
@Chuck0426 Don't get me wrong, he's a wonderful dog and I wouldn't trade him for anything but he has a lot of traits that are so different from the dogs we've had in the past. My fave was my Husky/min Shepherd mix. I love "Loki" our Keeshond and he's coming around to be a great dog, but he is still in training. You must be consistent in their teachings and discipline because they are smart and will take advantage. They're remarkable and more like children!!!
Hi there , I'm really sorry for your dog. Hope things are not too painful.
But as far as Keeshonds go, They are happy-go-lucky dogs. Rarely violent, usually loving and care-free, we've had them for 35 years, and never had problems.
The only thing you have to appreciate, is they moult, and there's fur everywhere. There are also some genetic disorders that need to be taken into account. Do a google and you'll find what you need to know.
I had a keeshond for 5 years. she was 1 when we got her. She died the same day Billy Maze dies. When I went out to give her fresh water in the morning she was just lying there. idk what was wrong with her. I didnt even cry that much when my grandpa died
these dogs are so amazing. we had one when i was a kid and he was so smart, friendly and just a great dog. he lived to be 15. RIP, Teufel, you were an amazing dog.
Bliksem looks identical to my little Mojo! This breed is so much fun! High energy and very loving! I could watch Keeshond videos all day and never get bored. Thanks for posting!
They are really awesome dogs Pros: -Smart -Loving -Good for inside or outside -Gentle -Pretty Cons: -They think they are in charge -Have a tendency to hit their head -Only a little hard to groom (not that bad) GET IT!
Thanks for your quick response :) Your video has further persuaded me to get one. The pros definately outweigh the cons, just need to convince the rest of my family now, which could be difficult ... 0.o
@Bliksem205 I could not agree more, not sure about the hitting head part. My Keeshond Queeny lived for 17 years, I got her when I was 12. She believed she was in charge of me and my sisters, nothing would come btw us and a stranger, it broke my heart when she died, I was in denial for the entire day that she was no longer with us. When I have children that is the dog that I will get. Great family dogs. Your vid very much reminded me of her, you have a wonderful dog. Thanks for sharing
Keeshonds are the most wonderful breed! I now have a 1 year old Keeshund and she's the 3rd one my family have had, she's beautiful and her name is Poppy :)
