It must be a .SAV file. So basically after you convert the original .SAV file, use pokesav to open the converted file, not the other one. Then when you save the changes, overwrite the converted file. You just need the old file to rename the new .SAV file exactly as it was written in the BATTERY folder.

Go to Options then Emulation Setup. Look for the NDS-Cartridge section and in the drop down menu, select 512k Flash.

For those who still don't get the steps, this is the MOST complete form of step-by-step guide to making it happen.

I. Prepping

Make a back-up of the No$GBA.ini file.

II. Decompression

Open NO$GBA.ini in notepad.

Scroll down to the line: SAV/SNA File Format == Compressed

Change it to: SAV/SNA File Format == Uncompressed

Open No$GBA (make sure your save type in NO$GBA is FLASH 512 kbytes).

Continue your game.

Save the game.

Quit No$GBA.

IV. Inspection

Save in game = big file - Gotcha

Downloaded that GBA - VBA thing - Gotcha

Converted the file- Great

Thought I was free to cheat and.. wha? Why isn't it working? Repeated steps 1-4 like a million times, and I still could cheat. if I delete the old save, the game will start all over, despite having the new converted copy. I could only cheat using the converted copy. Whats wrong?

leave the game and put the savestate into the folder with no$gba to vba, start no$gba to vba, click on the savestate and then click on convert. after a while, it could take forever, there'll be a message telling u it's finished, exit the program and then open pokesave, click on open and search for the new converted savestate, then ur infos etc. should be there, and u can start cheating.

after changing everything u like, save it and exit the program, put the hacked savestate into ur BATTERY folder in no$gba, change the name of the savestate to the name of ur pokemon game. now when u start the game and successfully load the savestate, all the changes should be taken over.
