  • I think those happened just simply because they use google translator directly....

  • LOL, that's so hilarious.

  • hahaha pffft Engerish

  • lol americans critising china's english when their own english sucks balls.

  • 我也经常在外面见这些话。。

  • FALL CAREFULLY IN THE RIVER HAHAHAHAHA WTH

  • Despite the translations of the food names sounding, in order, cannibalistic, potentially violent, and disease-ridden, it actually doesn't look too bad.

  • You can blame it on Google translator.... very soon in the future, you people will have to use the reverse button..

    English-Chinese to Chinese-English get it?

  • You know CNN... sometimes you should get the fuck off China's back and stop bashing on them... pathetic... (it's true, they've bashed China many times). Just saying.

On topic: LMAO I've saw this picture of this Chinese restaurant, the owner used this translator trying to translate the Chinese name of the restaurant into english... and the people who put up the sign didn't know much english either... what's the name of the restaurant? Translation Server Error! XD!! That was very priceless lol.

  • Besides teaching them better English, teach these fuckers how to drive better.

  • It's called engrish, but that was probably too offensive for CNN.

  • Slip Carefully..

    Carefully fall into the river.

    Acid Food.

.Husband And wife lung slices?! wahaha.

  • o shit carefully fall into the river? shit shit shit

o shit acid food? shit shit shit

o shit husband & wife lung slices? shit shit shit(well srsly it's normal. this food is made in china and its original name is this. :D

  • 1:35 <---- Man & Wife lung slices

  • @liduzg So true, they make up these believed to be 'lucky & positive' names, and you have no idea what the dish is made of.

  • At least they have the determination to change for the better, unlike some 'OTHER' nations who can't do much for themselves.

  • I like how the highest rated comments are not laughing but instead trying to be mature and help out a bit for the Chinese. As a Chinese, I sometimes feel like their English sucks too, but its not their fault. ;D

  • dry goods == fuck goods true story bro

  • @imgordonfreeman Yes. Because of an error in a popular computer translation program. Most so-called Chinglish is just bad computer translation.

  • Just english people nigelwongable?....please....

  • Text speak= the real Chinglish.

  • I don't find this irritating. Let's see americans try to translate into Chinese. At least China is making an effort for the americans

  • chinglish is irritating

  • At least everybody is willing to learn a language that is totally new and strange to them, this already shows the degree of respect that the Chinese give to the Foreigners. I'm surprised to see even the seniors are trying to learn. I'm an American, and I'm sure every American knows how impossible it is for us to do this. We're just gonna say the typical line of "we are proud of what we are", we think we are the best anyways. But wait, we are still speaking the language of England though.

  • it isnt wrong it is right when you turn it in chinese

  • Chinese has different grammar structure from English; however, there are not many Chinese people understand that it is impossible to translate between two different languages directly.

  • and wtf the name of 'Husband and Wife Lung Slices' remain the same even in china town in london.

learning Chinese culture before going to China, or at least not making fun of it.

  • the dish name is really hard to translate,

  • @white000bear straw

  • "CHINGLISH"

    golden

  • @S1587915G then don't claim yourself a chinese if you don't have the heart for your motherland. No one will give a $%^@#$ about it.

listen to video again carefully from 0:40 to 0:50. then you will find the answer to your question.

  • I've studied in UK for 2 years and I knew

loads of students from HK and China.

The problem is Chinglish was created

out of laziness for those who heavily

either relies on no.1 DIRECT TRANSLATION

(word for word) and no.2 over-rely on

    certain translating softwares who does

100% accuracy word for word but less than

5% when it tries to translate a phrase which

    most translation softwares sucked at.

  • I'm a Hong Kong Chinese. I don't see them as a problems; I see them as a jokes and remind myself of not using them as far as I could...but they're really funny, you just can't ignore the fact LOL

  • @chuthemaster Im a HK people,not Chinese!!!!

  • @chuthemaster i'm also a hong kong chinese, and i've realized that Hong Kong, also a part of china, doesn't really have any of these chinglish...

  • I guess that chinese people like to play mad libs lol

  • the restaurant look like a high class restaurant.

this kind of restaurant don't event have a translator?

or find a professional people to do it?

  • English people always have a spelling problem on their own language.

  • @nigelwongable Wrong spoken English is a world-language too.

  • @michiel987 Why the white peoples call Chinese " Ching ", Should I call white people " Red neck ".

  • @nigelwongable 'Ching' ? We don't call them 'Ching' here in Europe. If you are talking about a 'Red Neck' then you are talking about American people.

  • @nigelwongable why you want to use some strange words toward the others? That's impolite.

  • this is not funny, try to even say one word RIGHT in Chinese!

  • acid food, lol

  • AYA HIRANO

  • I saw straw translated as sucker. hahahaha

  • haha, so funny.

  • better than singlish,right?

  • This Looks Like Mad About English

  • cowboy bone LOL

    it really means beef flank

  • I'm Chinese and I find this HILARIOUS! LMAO

  • you must admit , some are just outrageously , rolling- on-the-ground- while- grabbing- onto- tummy(so it doesn't pop out!) funny!!!

I saw one warning sign regarding slippery bathroom floor in a hotel- "beware of landslide under your feet"

  • How will you "Will kill English both!!" ??Before I can tell everybody to be scared, then I need to understand what you say and what you are threatening with:

Will we all die by "help oneself terminating machine"??

    XXXDDD

    Fucking dildo

  • spread to fuck the fruit

  • ==" this is so racist and insulting.

although they are just saying the fact

but they dont have to be so mean about it

    ggeeeeeeezzz....

  • Why is this "so racist and insulting"?

  • its not racist! Chinese laughed and make jokes of foreigners who can't handle the 4 tones and at ended saying embarrassing and ridiculous things instead!

that's the fun part of accepting our differences. laughing at each other and laughing also with each other! That's being free and comfortable when we don't have "hang ups" that spoil relationships.-Cultural Buggage

Ha Ha Ha- sounds universally similar.

  • 0:46

  • husband and wife lung slices........wow....

  • Comment removed

  • Ni hao, Ni shuo ying-wen ma, and xie xie is about the extent to even smart people in china towns.

  • Sucker. lmao.

we chinese people are funny, I love China even more now...lolz.

  • lol mother fucker is proper english mada facker CHINGLISH ASIANS ROCK!!!!

  • lmao the what fackin

  • C'mon, there are many better examples than "Husband and Wife Lung Slices". This is not a mistranslation, it is exactly what the Chinese people call it. There is a story behind this dish and if this were translated into "Spicy Lung Slices", then it would not be a proper translation.

  • It's quite the fact...

  • I'd like to see the Americans take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and see how many of them would actually pass. It's sad when Chinese students who had never set foot in an English speaking country before average higher SAT/GRE verbal scores than their American counterparts.

  • You know scores like TOEFL don't exactly reflect much right?

I've seen LOTS of Chinese immigrants, and students and the vast majority of which can barely comprehend english. Nor could others understand what they are saying.

Where do you get your data btw?

  • I read somewhere that for the GRE exam, residents of PRC score 200 or more points higher than the American residents. The point of me bringing up TOEFL is that it tests on grammar. I'm not saying they are better speakers (they are not, by far), but they may utilize better grammar in writing (and not speaking) and even know more vocabulary. Of course, that's the result of intensive exam prep, once they've passed, most of them have lost the vocabulary (like how we forget after exams here)

  • theres also an article about many chinese students cheating during GRE exams by memorizing the questions, and reconstructing it and share it amoungst friends.

Actually, TOEFL isn't hard, i've done it, and it certainly is at ELA-10 level.

I am a Chinese immigrant, and I first went to ESL-4B, then ELA-10. For that matter, ELA-10 seemed a little bit harder, as i got higher marks in TOEFL...

  • Good job Beijing. I wonder what would happen if we were to make all the Americans learn Mandarin, now there must be some funny ass Engnese? HAHA

  • nice remark, well guess all these happen in every country that wants people to learn a new language, with different structure and vocab.

    : )

  • 别写英文不就完了么,这帮白逼 自己堂堂华人子孙才不捣鼓他英文呢

  • this is kinda laughing at Chinese ppl. but some of the signs really do make no sense.

  • I love how "dried" can translate to "fu-ck".

  • lol

The Chinese character used to write "dry" can mean both "dry" and also "to do". Just like how in English, when you say "to do a person", you mean to have sex with them, in Chinese, the word "to do" can be used in the same way. I don't understand why they always translate that character into the f- word though.

  • cont'd....

    On a snack packaging:

Actual: Please respect the environment (do not litter)

    China's: Please cherish setting

    On a biscuit wrapper:

Actual: Made with the best ingredients for good health

    Finely baked, Crispy and light

China's: Made with the best ingredients for the health of modern men

    Fine baking, Crisp and brittle

  • I've got a few good ones...

    Actual: Caution, floor is slippery

    China's: Beware of landslide

    Actual:

    China's:

  • The Chinese word for "lock" and "turn off" is the same. That's why they messed up translating it.

  • its actually quite offensive, this..

but i have to agree, sometimes, signs just make no sense

  • LMAO ~~temple explosion chicken LMAO~~

  • I ate a bowl of Coco Poops in Shanghai last week.

  • some are translations of software.

  • LOL

  • Hey!

Dont you guys forget about them intelligent americans...

They hardly know English and they are supposed to have been BORN with it.. Just look up stupid americans here on Youtube...

  • You must be talking about the Americans down in the south. ie. Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Texas. Lots of morons down there. lol

  • lol, hope it can get better off half a year later.

  • "Tiny glass has a life, sincere concern shows under your feet." It shows Chinese language has more depth than English. They use words to stir up people's feeling. I know it's a communist party thing. But still, I think it sounds better than robotic command "Don't step on the grass. "

  • I don't care all the Olympic shit China's hosting right now. China is more like a boss to me. I regard myself as Hongkonger. I just don't like how the Westerners laugh at the Chinese how they can't use proper English while lots of them are monolingual, maybe they speak some Spanish and French. But once you speak Spanish, you automatically know how read lots of French.

  • Even in Japan, an industrialised country for a long time, still have signs written in wrong English. English native speaker will never know the pain of East Asian English learners.

  • even in wales there's the occasional mis spelling, hell even somerset!

  • English speaker can learn to speak and write a lot of Spanish within a month. But can you write and speak a lot of Chinese in a month if you only speak English?? I understand Spanish is closer to French than English but Spanish is still extremely easy for English speaking learner. While Chinese speakers have to overcome a lot in order to speak and write proper English.

  • Hey...dooonnnnnnn make fun of chiIIIneee peeeeeepole...We Lite Menu sooooo gud! U Do again...we eeeee ur dog for lunch....

  • Don't eat chicken and cows, idiot. They are all animals.

  • Why do Chinese need to speak perfect English???? China isn't a colony of the US or UK. Also, many American are monolingual. Some maybe bilingual but that foreign language is called SPANISH, which is similar to the English language.

  • ii kused to sit by my friend in the lunch room he was chinese he said that each word has a meaning (in chinese) and since english is differnt the translate the whole meaning and chinglish happens

  • some are literal translations which doesnt add up to english. This news report has alot of ethnocentrism in it. The reporters are totally biased here.

  • agree with you

  • LOL

  • At least they tried.

  • its just like "decider", isn't?

  • Those translations are funny, I like this news, but don't forget, they are not official translations.

You should be thankful that the Chinese are pleased with English. If you went to France and try to use English, the French would not be so gentle with you. I have seen more horrible translation to Chinese from American in USA movie, but you just don't know it.

  • Thank you

I'm Chinese, and I proud of it

  • So much nationalistic is yet unnecessary.

Everyone is a diffrent individual. It will not be changed in our real lives when someone from the same of country did something honorable or something despicable. We are still our selves, and our lives are still like in every day.

  • That taxi driver was pretty good, I can understand him. He is better than New York City's Taxi driver.

  • Try to find a taxi driver in the U.S. who can speak a single Chinese word.

  • Gosh darn, come on! I'm not Chinese, but this is freaking hypocritical. China has the largest population in the world and Chinese was the most spoken language, do we have any Chinese translation under all the English words here in the US? Heck no. China is already trying their best to show their respect to foreigners, why make fun of their English? You think we speak their language at all? this is funny

  • LOOOL!!!!

  • i was actually videotaping the signs because they made me laugh so hard...im not laughing at the english...but the fact that they are very "bold" with the info they put in signs....it sounds like they are scolding someone...

  • lol..i came back one month ago from china...u have to understand that they are thinking in chinese and saying it in english...but anyone can understand what they are trying to say....then again westerners are pretty dumb..uh i dont get it...duhhh

  • yeah

  • speechless! Chinglish is come from the horrible education in China, few of them really know wot their English is used for...

  • sarcastically, most of Chinese students get better grades than occidentals in western countries. I just attended in my convocation in Canada, most of the graduates with honors are Chinese~

  • wait~ is wot a typical English word? or what is your evidence to prove that China has a horrible education? poor in English? what the hell!? why do we need to learn a foreign language that most of Chinese people will even not use during their entire lives? your comment is ridiculous.

  • coz actually i was studying in China for 12 yrs, but I even couldnt speak English fluently at that time. I know too much of that education system. Not enough space to explain here. It is ridiculous that u think most Chinese people shouldnt know English. If China needs to communicate with the rest world and wants to develop, they should, they must! I saw u r from China as well, and in Canada, can i know if u dont want to speak English, why r u there?

  • cause compare with China, Canada has less competition. are you a Chinese? the fundamental education of China is much better than the rest of the world. for example, I took accounting and maths even microeconomics, most of the occidentals even could not calculate the most basic maths. do not blame it, it built up a really good fundament for you. for example, I used to be the bottom ten students in China, but after I came here, I got 3.3 out of 4. not good enough but still not bad at all.

  • u should really hearing some englich, or englese

  • This is pure humor!

I'd like to order the 'Crap', please. LMAO
