can tell this organ is a casavant by the console - banana shaped couplers and concave stop knobs. No knocks against Casavant, they are in my top 3 favorite pipe organ manufacturers (E. M. Skinner #1, Aolean-Skinner #2)
i heard a couple bumbled notes as well, but overall it was better than some others, as i saw the video i was wondering if this was a kid playing the toccata. this piece is 1 of the hardest to play at a fast tempo
That is just superb. I heard this piece played yesterday at my graduation ceremony. The organist there was fantastic, and it was a real pleasure to hear it live. I wish I could hear you playing this live too... I'm certain it would be just as good if not better!
Great job with a difficult piece! I myself am 14, and learning to play organ. I don't think I'll be able to play this anytime soon! Just curious, what pedal stops are you using?
im Learning to play this along with Toccata and fugue by Bach, I also have composed 2 Pieces for organ i will soon post them on here i am only 14 Years old and play on 3 diffrent organs.
What a strange bunch of comments! Yes, organists get paid! Lessons, conservatory, university... none of it is cheap! This WAS taken a bit fast, but excellent work! Yes, I know it was a bit fast, as my organ instructor was a personal student of Widor in Paris at the conservatory. Widor actually had tempo markings for this piece. It's also helpful to remember that it was composed and played on a very large TRACKER action organ. This speed would have been impossible. Good work!
That is such an inspiring performance and I like the youthful tempo. Considering this boy's technique, interpretation and his amazing repertoire - words fail me.
You Are the best organist of all time on YouTube. i'm surprised how good you are at this beautiful piece i love this music. very peacful. very touching seeing you play so nicely i think you sound better than the adults who play this piece of music. i might even be a fan of yours. keep up the hard work, love for classical music, inpressive effort.
Phenomenal performance. You play this piece with excellent spirit. I also am an organist and I think this is an extremely challenging piece which I never would have thought anyone your age would attempt. However, I was just proven wrong. Excellent performance.
Very good performance. We should be encouraging youngsters like you to take an interest in playing the organ. People tend to forget that young people need to develop a sense of style and technique over many years. It is very easy to be over critical. Let the player experiment and develop their own style.
Wow! Great job guy. Thank you for taking an interest in organ. You play well. Keep up the good work. The organ is one of the most amazing instruments. I cant believe more kids aren't playing it these days.
I heard that there is an actual recording of Widor playing this piece and he plays it rather on the slow pace. I have heard many organist play it on the fast pace. Still great performance.
lol excellent this tis 1 of the hardest peices ive come across with the exception of marche pontificale by widor try an learn it tis an excellent peice
Is this at the Concordia University chapel building in Irvine CA? If so, then I played Bach's Toccata und Fuga in d-moll there the last week in June for a talent show :) The acoustics of the place are amazing. I just turned 16 by the way, nice to see another young organist!
pianorgano you still amaze me, watching your videos is fantastic to see this little 10 year old boy sitting at an organ playing widor to perfection. Its fantastic!!
pianorgano, I was very impressed. What a talent at such a young age. You played that effortlessly. Good pace, some play it too slow in my opinion. Out of all the concert organists, I've always liked Virgil Fox's rendition. You have a bright future indeed, what talent. Who do you study under? Do play for a church? I'll be watching for big things from you in the future. Please, never, ever give up - I sure hope you plan on becoming a professional concert organist.
this is a sod of a piece, i played this at a wedding two months ago and it mades the brides mother cry to see her daughter processing out to the piece, and then i presented her with the bill for making me learn such a piece, and she cried again.
To chettle265: Now why would you say a thing like that? This piece is a joy to learn... such a challenge, and then such a reward! Where's your appreciation for fine music? Or are you purely an organist for the money, and no other reason?
Don't get on your high horse....it was just a joke. I was thrilled as anyone once I'd learnt it, but like every other job, when you do something week in week out it loses its spark a bit. It's a stunning piece of music, I agree...but I wasn't saying it wasn't. All I was saying is that it took me a long time to learn, and a long time to be able to play to that standard, and like any other job, I expec to get paid as such. Wheres the problem in that?
your playing seems to be great well done for playing so well at such a young age...I am currently doing organ at university and still find this very hard to play
Excellent! How long did it take you to memmorize that?! I've been trying to play that for almost a year now! Any tips? Cause I'm only 14. Thanks for posting! -Jon
hey jon...I noticed your comment on advice for learning the toccata..best thing to do would be to learn the right hand fingering as this is what makes it difficult....dont learn the pedals till last as they are not a problem. I found it very hard to learn this piece though and I actually do organ as a degree at edinburgh...any more advice then message me and ill give you my msn email
There is a lot of flats indeed but you have to learn long and hard and memorise that music...you dont have to remember them all anyway. You should have the music infront of you! I do anyway! I tend to sight read. Take the right hand very slowly.
Excellent performance.
