Amtgard is a lot more tappity tap than I personally like though. There is a lot of skill involved, but not much power or strength required. Which is why I stick to Belegarth and Dagorhir.
When I explain Amtgard to my friends I tell them right away that it's fake sword fighting. After I shock their system I begin enlighten them of the speed and agility needed for this wonderful game. To make a point I have been doing Judo and Jujitsu for around 10 years. Both do not allow strikes so you can't compare it real fighting. The skill in Amtgard lies in the point system being so light compared to the SCA. We have to move faster due to our opponent moving faster
You are trying to compre two different games that have different rules. Techniques develop around the rules of the game. There are people that do both Amtgard and SCA.
Come over to the SCA and try HALF them moves and see how far ya get. It looks like a bunch of 6 year olds playing. The swordplay is laughable, the foot work sucks....just jumping around...no-one even has the resemblance of form.
