We rented a CAT 315 Excavator with a hydraulic thumb which is kinda the same as a john deere 160. but the CAT had no balls for thumb pinching power It was a beefy looking machine, but just lacked the balls that my man john deere has. We've ran only John Deere since we bought our first farm tractor in 1952, figured we'd try out other kinds, but I've learned john deere makes the best excavators in my opinion
@Jeffah5 John Deere excavators are pretty much just a re badged Hitachi excavator and Hitachi more than likely builds the best hydrolic excavators in the world.
omg, put a car beside this and the car will win, you dosen,t buy a loader for his speed. If you do, buy a jcb gt, it go to 150 miles per hour.Anyway, everyone know that cat is the best, put a chain between them and the cat will pull the deer. And caterpillar machines aren't cheap and they will worth many years, and john deer loaders are good for the scraps after 2 days.
@torque395 front end loaders dont have suspension! but i agree the cat is rocking way more than the deere, cause deeres have decent ride control. i drive an older deere (badged as a hitachi) about 1997 model, and it runs circles around cats half its age and probly twice the price from new
I run 1996 980g with 29000 hrs and still tight still runs like new with very few breakdowns that where little. It will go from 0-20 in less than 10 seconds. We have another 950g with 15000 hrs and never touch the motor. They run 12 or more hours a day summer and winter. I'll take a cat any day of the week
Deere is the only equipment company that puts elementary marketing videos such as this one. There are two things that as an owner you don't want and that's a loader that's capable of driving high speeds through a pit and a rubber tracked high speed dozer. Deere's vid's are not only rigged but they also show where their mindset is.
what does this prove? you dont want to haul ass when loading trucks! but i forget just because all the other pieces of equipment are faster i guess that they are better right. ONE OTHER THING YOU DONT SEE CATERPILLAR OUT TRYING TO TELL YOU WHO MUCH BETTER THEY ARE, EVERY ONE WITH A BRAIN ALREADY KNOWS THAT!!!!!!
My company just recently replaced a Cat 980F with a Deere 844K after some experience with the 980H at another plant and being loyal to CAT for at least 30 years.
The C15 ACERT in the 980H isn't performing as well as the older 980G Series II did and is burning more fuel. And it still has outdated open center hydraulics with a gear pump while the Deere has newer closed center load sensing hydraulics with variable piston pumps. Joystick steering is also available on the DEERE, but not on the 980
Good question. One place is the DEERE website, if you use the machine comparison link, and select which machines you would like to compare to the equivalent DEERE model, it will give you the breakout force for the machine with the "standard" bucket; it will vary from bucket to bucket. so the numbers from any party could be fudged a little.
I drive cats all day. Unfair comparison! That cat is quicker then that. Quicker then the deer? I dont really know because it was not a fair comparison. I could see this being real if the turbo on the cat was no good.
It could be real - the 966 H series doesn't have a lockup clutch yet. That said, I'd still go for the CAT. Sports cars are for winning drag races. Loaders are for moving dirt for a long time without breaking.
cat have been resting on their laurels too long. ACERT, need a degree to fix/service, good steel in them, but performance/ economy isnt class leading, especially for the money
good little test videos, but this not some JD advertisement? because, well in the videos Deere all rival trademarks from above beaten he was organized according to me because CAT would have stoked up, i mean i Caterpillar breast I vote, but if all of my respect is true JohnDeere.
It is a prototype with a new ZF 5WG210 transmission with converter lockup. Locking the converter increases driveline efficiency by 15 to 20%, hence the quick acceleration.
@19Escort93 Well you see, your comment confuses me.. because this obviously demonstrates the power of both of these machines.. but regardless. I love CAT and Deere.
I love John Deere products but considering there's a large amount of Deere products at whatever event they're at, leads me to believe that this might be a promotion stunt.
i dont think speeding around a consturction site is anyway safe!

That cat has some crappy gears in it. and whatever suspension it has is crappy. That thing rocks back and forth while the deere is solid and steady.

@sgtdicko the ones we build have boom suspension. works equally well.

@RenzeZielman boom suspension is what i meant when i said ride control. where it lets the boom 'float' up at down to stop that rocking back and forth
