I can't believe you can turn the bass up that high on that amp. I keep mine around 2 and below, anything above that is overkill. Any mods done to this amp?
Great playing. Btw - for anyone interested, Marshall JTM45s are 'only' 30 watts, so you can get natural drive without blowing everyone's head off. Fantastic amps, Jim Marshall's favourite to this day, I believe.
I don't think so...not enough headroom with the 18 watts
If you get the Ceritone made to old orignal spec..it's not that loud though. Loud enough to get over a drummer...but not kill loud. Let me know what you come up with!
Sounds great!! I've really been obsessed with microphones lately. I see you have a Shure SM57, a Senheiser MD 421, and an EV RE20. Is that correct? Were you blending all three mics to get this sound?
Also, does the lion rug between the close mics and the room mic add a certain character to the tone? Like maybe a richness fit for a king? Or perhaps it makes your metal recordings more beastly?
Even in Concert, even outside, I couldn't go over 2, it was REALLY loud.
but you rt, after 4, it doesn t go louder so the sound is perfect, but with my 4x12 Greenbacks, it s really too loud. I should try on V30 or on a 2x12 cab...

There is another alternative. And it probably won't cost you any more than new speakers or a new cab. An attenuator. Then you can get the power tubes cookin' and still not be overly loud. The THD's are highly regarded. Or the Ultimate Attenuator.
it's nt that loud. i have had mine on 9 in my bedroom several times, only reason for that i haven't taked it to 10 i because i am affraid to blow something
you will not get blown out of the room with volume on 9, actually it does'nt really get louder after 4 :)
Thanx 4 the reply! You got some great tone! I own a script logo dist+ but lately i've been playing a OC44 equipped treble booster. Experiment (for at least 30 min) with that if you have the chance, you might just really like it! Welldone, keep up the great TONE!
Sounded good. Very tasteful playing. JTM's are fantastic. Mine has big bottle EL34's & it sings. One of the most beautiful tones you'll hear is a JTM 45 set to noon, w/ reverb, & echo. Strat, SG, LP, 335 all go well w/ those amps.
Neither channel is gain. Channel one is a high treble signal, and channel two is the normal signal. I've got them strapped together internaly (As opposed to using a cord going from input to input) But a lot of the gain is from turning the amp up. Sweet natural distortion...
great sound men

Have not played one yet! Hmmm..could be though.
AndyBaylor 1 year ago
hey! hou do you switch between overdrive and clean? because i really want to buy one, but never played one... ive just heard.
mateivornicu 2 years ago
Only one channel...so no channel switching. Just turning the distortion pedal on and off.
AndyBaylor 2 years ago
so... what you want to say is that tis amp doesnt have distorsion and you need a separate effect pedal?
mateivornicu 2 years ago
Yes! Sorry for the late reply... :-) AB

Yes..it has the KT66 tubes, and the filter caps were changed back to old spec. It made a HUGE difference.
Thanks for the listen!

Thanks Romeo Rose!. Thanks a bunch
It's real easy to "play" this tone.
Makes you sound...British.
Gary Moore just came to mind. Marshall. Jeff Beck? Sure. Marshall.
Randy Rhodes?...British influence (Mick Ronson, Ozzy band), Marshall.
Marshall. It's what I'm all about lately.
Thanks again!-AB

i'm sure about the answer but ... could I achieve this tone with some 18w ceriatone bluesbreaker head and a good greenback cab ?
or should i go for JTM45 ? these amps are SO loud ...

hmm ... why not the 45w , after all and an attenuator ... for sure it will be louder but it will have more headroom too ...
i must think about it ... i will let you know what i will come up with ! thanks , David

Yes sir. Along with a AKG 414 for a room mic. Get some air up in this MF-er.

How much clean headroom does the amp have?
MaddMan95 3 years ago
With the pedal offf, it's a fair amount. Gotta Watch your picking dynamics though.
Thanks for listening! AB

YES!!!
You have found the secret ingredient to the tone! My lion rug!! I'm TOTALLY serious.
Goes to show you, great minds (Metalheads) think alike.

hw can u play with the Normal volume at 9 ???
Got the same amp, and playing at 2 is already too loud ! Did u use a power reductor or seomthing or do you play really f**** loud ?
Thanx in advance.
stoofystoof 3 years ago
Well it's loud...but in a band context with a drummer and bass, it fits perfectly. Just loud enough.
Have you tried yours in a band setting?
AndyBaylor 3 years ago
I mostly play in bands and do some gigs.
Even in Concert, even outside, I couldn't go over 2, it was REALLY loud.
but you rt, after 4, it doesn t go louder so the sound is perfect, but with my 4x12 Greenbacks, it s really too loud. I should try on V30 or on a 2x12 cab...

Love your early seventies Marshall cabinet. Is it a 1935b or 1982B model? Meaning: What speakers...G12H30's or G12M greenbacks?

do you use a powerbrake or anntenuator or anything?
or do you just play crazy loud
lol
Zoso7227 3 years ago
No powerbrake/attenuator.
It's funny, but the JTM isn't that loud. I mean...it IS loud, but not too much. I guess thats why they are so popular!
Thanks for listening-AB

is loudness 1 on the amp the gain and loudness 2 is the master volume or vise versa
great tone by the way.
pretty hard to get that distortion w/o the pedal
