there are a bunch of ways to go about this on the net, the method that I adapted from those was to drop a small block of wood cut to size to stop trem travel then tighten up the springs to max, have done this with a bunch of guitars now, works well for me
@Subaro0o You can do 2 guitars with this kit, I used 10-32 size alan head machine screw, and drilled with 5/32 and tapped it. I still would recomend using a nut on the bolt to lock it in place.
Man I want all over the Depot and found some corner braces for cabinets but could not find what you have there. What a pain in the dick, what was it exactly called? Is it a L Bracket or Corner brace? Thanks man I appreciate your help. love the video.
@dverhonich Ahh ... sorry man, they are hard to find. An "L" bracket would be nice if they categorized them that way & sold them ... actually, they have exactly what I used: look or ask for a 'Mirror Hanging Kit' made by 'OOK' ... a 77 piece kit for $8.98 to be exact. Do a search on the Depot site for that as well - when you zoom into the picture, the single brushed aluminum piece in the middle is what you want-it has 2 holes to mount to guitar - drill & tap another in the end - that help?
@jeffersononetwo don't mean to ask the obvious, but why didn't you just get a guitar with a fixed bridge? So much easier to maintain. Do you just like tha particular guitar and it only comes with a FR? It just seems like a lot of work to go through all of this.
nice vid dude. I custom made a 5150 guitar like eddie van halen. I wanna stop the trem from floating. Will I be able to play in e flat and dive bomb still?
@aceeddieslash Thanks bro! Yeah, that will be no problem ... any tuning you want stable with dives - just no pulling back, which is fine with me - lol! Go for it man!
My Floyd Rose has 10's on it, and I had the tech @ GC change the strings and put the 4th spring in. I want to level my Floyd. What do I do if the screws on the spring claw don't want to move?
@skylorz ... oh yes, just like any Fender type with a synchronized trem - you can still dive bomb or do some vibrato just fine ... just can't raise the note (float). I like this a lot better and it doesn't change the look of the bridge or guitar.
@beccarr11 Hey Becca! Yeah, those Floyds can be a monster! Shoot me an email is you guys run into any trouble and think I can help ... thanks for checking these out!
@raven1ization The only thing that comes into play is the position of the the springs ... other than that, no problems - when you want to float, you just disengage the stop by turning it back. I have three springs on mine still, with two on the thicker string side.
i think ive had 3-5 guitars out of about 100 or so without a floyd. the non trem models are always the go down the road guitars haha. dude these are very useful videos. you know your set ups really well. floyd roses are so not that intimidating...they get a bum rap. rock on Jeff
Thanks for the comments, Satch! You still float your don't you? I'm a setup freak - lol - need to take some of that energy and put towards lead play, huh? ;)
I hate the floating trems!! My Wolfgang was made to only dive but the Razorback was a nightmare! I did lock it down using my own methods but I really like what you came up with Jeff! I can see where your going with it and might have to try it out after seeing part 2! Well done!
Great video...I have an Ibanez RG450DX that is a great guitar but it has a floating Floyd Rose II sytem on it and I HATE IT! I never play that guitar because half the time it seems that it is playing me! I hate setting up the Ibanez.. my Fender and Gibson are so much easier to maintain. Oh and forget about alternate tunings with a floating bridge too!
Right on, Sage, on all points! I love the sound & feel of my ESP, but the LFR bridge just kills me - I have it set up to a 't', but palm mute just a little and it goes sharp -- one trick pony with tunings too - that sucked. No more of that :) blocking feels good!

Isn't the purpose of a floyd rose , so you can pull back on the trem bar?
