I've found the Canon Legria an absolutely great camcorder, easy to use as "run and gun" camcorder. Ideal camcorder for tight corners and to take with on hikes. Premiere Pro 5.5 accepts AVCHD with ease and one can also mix different formats in the same timeline. Another option is to buy NEOSCENE. It will convert your AVCHD footage into most editing software formats.
just out of curiosity, I bought one of these last December and about a week ago it's developed a stuttering sort of ticking noise on the audio which is audible in the final footage. I can also here the noise from the actual camera whilst filming. Do you have this problem? If not then I clearly have a faulty camera or I need to change the audio settings but there's nothing I can find that has made any difference. The camera hasn't been stretched beyond it's capabilities. Great footage. Thanks
hey does anyone else have trouble getting video off of the camera? I can't even get videos to work on the software that came with the camera any more, it just shows up as a black screen where the videos supposed to play.
@199FOE hi, have you tried using sd copy to transfer videos from your cam to your pc, it's what i use and is very simple the download link for it is in the more info section just above. as for the editing software that came with the cam i think is crap, but it still should work tho. any other questions just ask
@skeddyo Thanks, I ended up trying SDcopy out and it works now. As for the software that came with the camera, it used to work, but now when I go into video edit mode the videos don't show up on the screen, only the audio plays..... I don't know why but its not a problem since it is pretty shitty anyways.
@wearelucky13 HI, try using a tool called SD copy the download link is in the more info section just above, it's easy to use. you use it to copy the videos from the cam to computer and it makes the videos 16:9. you can upload original video files to you tube i have done it with a couple of my vids
@skeddyo is h.264.mp4 the best quality? can a similiar result be acheived in wmv? if so what would you recomend as the settings, the interlacing/deinterlacing is cofusing, I understand the concept but I'm not completely happy with the quality I'm getting
Hey there,I'm using Canon FS200 too,but I have problem uploading the video...It'll always ask me to connect the power adapter everytime I connect the usb,but that doesn't happen when I upload the pictures
When I use SDcopy to copy my files from the SD card, everything looks stretched. But if I just copy yhe files over with explorer and they are in standard format4:3, they all look fine. What am I missing. I do have the camcorder set to record in widescreen.
I have not deleted any of my cards until I figure out the right way to do this, but my vids are piling up on me so need to figure out the best way. I am going to be using Premier CS5 and other adobe products for editing. Thanks for any help
To transfer pics or vid you need to have the power cord AND the USB plugged in..the setting on cam or vid or the both/one...hit the far right button on the view screen and toggle it over to PC/Scanner FROM the silly default of DVD burn...sheesh...
shot a clip in wide mode but when the clip transfers, icon in folder LOOKS wide but plays 4:3 and image is all stretched tall, Tried several times and always get same thing. Can still use clips,I edit squished clips and then have to render to a 16:9 and "stretch" to fit to get back to widescreen.. on vegas movie studio is this a computer or camera problem its a refurb camcorder
I can use it as is but if Its just my settings or a codec thing....apreciate help anyone..
@RobynneLouisa hi did you try using sdcopy, the link is in my more info section. it will copy straight from your cam or card reader and when you tick the 16:9 box it will automatically change your vids to widescreen :)
i am having a different problem. i used sdcopy to make it 16:9, and then i make a premiere project and put all the clips in. they fit into the box and there is no black strips on the sides. but then when i export the video to .avi, it goes 4:3 again. can u tell me exactly what you do from recording the clips, to uploading to youtube. your video also looks clearer than mine and has a 480p option. thanks in advance
@skeddyo kinda weird but it appears that 1024 x 576 is actually too wide for the camera, its not stretched but there are black strips on the side. u sure thats the right length?
@SamGravesFilm yeah its the right size i use it all the time. make sure in the drop down box you have selected square pixels so it shows a 16:9 next to it. not wide screen or anamorphic or the others
@skeddyo hey, thank you so much it works now. although exporting takes way longer. ive been doing like 2 frames a second. what computer hardware would i need to improve this? more ram or what?
@OnaBaldrak na i'm not to sure aye most of the cheap cams don't support external mics and the newest model of this cam does not support the mic feature either anymore
I use Pinnacle 10 and i cant upload any of my videos to edit! whats a good program to use for this cannon legria?? I need to edit my video footage ....using the usb port please help

PivotDude111 1 year ago
@PivotDude111
hey i had the same problem when i first used this cam. i might make a vid tutorial but for now this is what i do.
in Premiere pro i make a custom project for desktop @ 1024 wide x 576 height (true wide screen frame size)
then when i export i use adobe media encoder and export it at the same frame size and use a H.264 MP4 encoding (H.264 is best for youtube)
.avi is good for burning to dvd and watching on tv.
hope this helps, i will make a tut about it soon ok

hey i use premiere pro cs3. mpeg files are not the best with premiere pro sometimes there are dropped frames which = a red or green flash which = yuk and there are also audio issues (read the comment above if you have audio issues) so its pretty much it's hope you don't get a dropped frame in the footage you want to use or convert it to uncompressed avi which can be time consuming and you need alot of hard drive space.
