I just found out that this A6's engine has been DETUNED to 345 hp when it actually can produce 414 b/c it would make the RS4 more unjustified, so it can beat the SHO making its price more justified. Also, the A6 has a 57/43 weight distribution, not the 60/40 the SHO has making better sharper steering.

Good job, Ford. BUT I do question those turbos since they make the engine more vulnerble to overheating even if it has a cooling system which needs maintenance and may FAIL. This can be much worse than replacing/maintaining Audi's expensive parts as it will need a more expensive rebuild. I think that's why Audi believes turbos as being the LAST RESORT since they would rather replace components than engines.
@unknownunknowns On stock boost this danger is not much worse, if at all, than what modern performance V8s face running 11:1 compression, and getting lots of power from relatively low displacement n/a. Also, consider that this engine runs direct injection as well, cooling the cylinders and keeping the risk of detonation down even more. Then consider that there are many 20+ year old turbo cars still running on their original engines, holding as strong as ever, with far less technology.

@unknownunknowns I think you may be referring to some turbo cars which came with a side mount intercooler, and were later modified by the owner with a front mount, which are larger and cool the intake charge more efficiently, but can sometimes choke the radiator, causing heating issues if further steps aren't taken to prevent it. An intercooler needs no more than to be cleaned with a simple wash every few years at best. They're much less sophisticated than a radiator.

I drive an SRT8 and an S550. The reason I hate the Taurus is because the front space is cramped. Some Smaller people don't notice but, I'm 6'6 so the car restricts me. My aunt is 5'5 and she sat in it and didn't like the bunkerized interior.

The SHO does have some great key features, including performance, but with that Audi, the main reason why it lost is because it's quattro system. In differences to the SHO, it's slightly more luxurious, the Audi style is unbeatable in my opinion, and I cannot live without quattro because the stability is phenomenal. It's just differences, not just favors of brands.

@highlanderhybrid The SHO has two turbos and an extra .5 liters of displacement, they are both new engines. The S4 get's signicantly better gas mileage(18/27 vs 17/25) and runs with Camaro SS's and Challenger SRT8's throgh the 1/4 mile, it runs high 12s ! It does 0-60 a near full second faster than the Taurus too, the Taurus is based off an old Volvo platform to cut costs, so it weighs 4500 lbs !
I suppose the SHO is a better 'bang for the buck' but if you end up crashing one of them due to your 'need for speed', your chances of surviving a crash could be higher in an Audi because it has the autobahn were big accidents occur. So, as a warning, be careful what you pay for.

who buys an audi for performance? thats not their category. their category is interior precision. that means making the best and most functional interiors with out all the necessary gadgets. I do not now one person who bought an audi for its performance (excluding r8). They should have put TTV6 vs V8 in the title for it to be accurate. Audi puts a T on the end of their 2.0T. Why? Because they are proud of their engineering for what it is. Ford should do the same.

The experience of driving an Audi is way superior not just in terms of car handling but MOST importantly on the way you are treated by the dealer, form the buying experience (no bulling, pestering, aggressive salesman) to the parts and service process, dealer premises and amenities.

I just found out that this A6's engine has been DETUNED to 345 hp when it actually can produce 414 b/c it would make the RS4 more unjustified, so it can beat the SHO making its price more justified. Also, the A6 has a 57/43 weight distribution, not the 60/40 the SHO has making better sharper steering.

Good job, Ford. BUT I do question those turbos since they make the engine more vulnerble to overheating even if it has a cooling system which needs maintenance and may FAIL. This can be much worse than replacing/maintaining Audi's expensive parts as it will need a more expensive rebuild. I think that's why Audi believes turbos as being the LAST RESORT since they would rather replace components than engines.

Also, consider that this engine runs direct injection as well, cooling the cylinders and keeping the risk of detonation down even more. Then consider that there are many 20+ year old turbo cars still running on their original engines, holding as strong as ever, with far less technology.

@unknownunknowns I think you may be referring to some turbo cars which came with a side mount intercooler, and were later modified by the owner with a front mount, which are larger and cool the intake charge more efficiently, but can sometimes choke the radiator, causing heating issues if further steps aren't taken to prevent it. An intercooler needs no more than to be cleaned with a simple wash every few years at best. They're much less sophisticated than a radiator.

The SHO does have some great key features, including performance, but with that Audi, the main reason why it lost is because it's quattro system. In differences to the SHO, it's slightly more luxurious, the Audi style is unbeatable in my opinion, and I cannot live without quattro because the stability is phenomenal. It's just differences, not just favors of brands.

The S4 get's signicantly better gas mileage(18/27 vs 17/25) and runs with Camaro SS's and Challenger SRT8's throgh the 1/4 mile, it runs high 12s ! It does 0-60 a near full second faster than the Taurus too, the Taurus is based off an old Volvo platform to cut costs, so it weighs 4500 lbs !

I suppose the SHO is a better 'bang for the buck' but if you end up crashing one of them due to your 'need for speed', your chances of surviving a crash could be higher in an Audi because it has the autobahn were big accidents occur. So, as a warning, be careful what you pay for.

who buys an audi for performance? thats not their category. their category is interior precision. that means making the best and most functional interiors with out all the necessary gadgets. I do not now one person who bought an audi for its performance (excluding r8). They should have put TTV6 vs V8 in the title for it to be accurate. Audi puts a T on the end of their 2.0T. Why? Because they are proud of their engineering for what it is. Ford should do the same.

I find that since governments are cutting back in this gloomy economy and, thus, road funding, the Quattro could see its use. So, there might be some price justification.

It may be superior in inclement weather, but nobody reaches the near potential of them in such cases. Don't mistake all this for love of the SHO, I adore the Audi line up more than any other, but I didn't even talk about the Quattro system or price in my argument, so why are you discussing these two subjects in reference to my previous post?

And, at the end of the day, you own a Ford Taurus - and you paid over 40k...ouch. What's it going to be worth next year...20k, double ouch. Is better paired against other vehicles in its class. But, if Ford wants a luxury comparison, like others have said - its better paired against the S4 (High Performance Mid-Size) which houses Audi's new supercharged V6. Can't pair Ford's performance minded edition against one of Audi's lux cruisers - set performance model against performance model.

The performance of my diesel Audi is similar to the performance figures quoted here, but I get on average 8.5 litres per 100 kms, on diesel which is far better than either the taurus or the V8 A6. Still, I'm happy to see that Ford is doing so well again. Henry Ford was a legend, but I'd prefer to see the taurus kicking a Hyundai or Toyota, as Audi is a premium brand

SHO has better performance, similar in luxury, and the Audi is going to be safer... But unless you have a crazy need for speed, doesnt really matter what the safety rating is... Going 150 mph on a highway and running into a tree is pretty much guaranteed to kill ya... so yeah...

@TheVidRater007 I'm not sold to any brand, but I was a Ford owner twice and never again, I'm not saying they didn't make any progress but they lost my trust and my money. The resale value of the Taurus is going to be very low very soon, as for the luxury you can compare Ford and Audi and you shouldn't.
The Taurus is faster, good for the Taurus, personally I would feel much safer at high speed in the Audi.

Truth is if you can afford an audi, you'll buy the audi over this Taurus, 4 a real comparison, find the engineers and designers that built both cars and pit them against each other 2 make the best car with equal resources, guarantee you the Audi engineers will win. Comparing a Taurus with an A6 may be just a sign the Ford is aiming to higher grounds, but nonetheless just ludicrous.
The experience of driving an Audi is way superior not just in terms of car handling but MOST importantly on the way you are treated by the dealer, form the buying experience (no bulling, pestering, aggressive salesman) to the parts and service process, dealer premises and amenities.
The Audi experience surpasses that of a ford one.
